Jethro Tull - Pibroch (Cap In Hand) Lyrics

There's a light in the house in the wood in the valley.
There's a thought in the head of the man.
Who carries his dreams like the coat slung on his shoulder,
Bringing you love in the cap in his hand.
And each step he takes is one half of a lifetime:
no word he would say could you understand.
So he bundles his regrets into a gesture of sorrow,
Bringing you love cap in hand.
Catching breath as he looks through the dining-room window:
candle lit table for two has been laid.
Strange slippers by the fire.
Strange boots in the hallway.
Put my cap on my head.
I turn and walk away.

Jethro Tull was an amazing band. They were one of the few bands to have a streak of releasing 10+(12) studio albums (This Was to Stormwatch) without skipping one year, and if I might add, with each album being just as amazing or nearly as good as the album before it, unlike Yes, or Gentle Giant! Truly an underrated band!

ian was a master at rock eclectisism but his pibroch must have been as close to his roots as anything he ever wrote. the guy was born just outside of edinborough...G-d what a masterpiece!

Great Pibroch by Martin. And that on an Electric. - The lyrics are one of Ian´s best stories I often compare it with Black Sunday.

    Now miss the A-Bomb .

By far, my favorite Tull album... The tunes whisk me away to the English greenwood...

  6. B.... T....

Surely one of my favorite songs in the 1970s. I so identified with the song in an instance of life and would play it over and over. Catching breath as he looked through the dining room window. Candlelit dinner for two has been laid....

    Great song!

I saw this tour in Milwaukee.November 14, 1977. This album is still fresh today.

  9. M.... G....

Una obra de arte como esta sólo puede salir de la cabeza de un genio

  10. W.... G....

love the moog synths at 6,00 minutes

  11. D.... D....

Talk about a mastery of styles. This has everything from hard rock to highland folk. Nobody did this. And then Ian Anderson took to the philharmonic. Genies.

  12. M.... W....

    Always hated this album cover.

    Matt Wojciechowski Sorry, I loved
It, sInce it's a painting, not a photo. And the turntable as a tree stump, pretty awesome.

Might be my favorite Tull song

That guitar at the beginning sounds SO much like BRIAN MAY!!!!!!!!!!

I didnt know May played the Bagpipes...

    I am a Tull HEAD! U?

    j.... t....

I could stand in for Ian on a moment's notice if I had a setlist - LOL. I know almost every note and word of just about every Tull song. What a unique and awesome band! The older we get, the more I respect Ian as an individual too (to the extent I can, being merely a fan). Even bought a flute and taught myself to play along as a teen. In short, yes :D

    j.... t....

    Yep! 😄❤️🎶

    What the hell went wrong

    R.... B....

John Glascock died and the 80's happened. Smoking killed Ian's voice for a while, but it is recovering. I wouldn't say it all went wrong, but I would say they had a rough patch and recovered.

@Scarab Kovaire I meant with people and life generally and the music media, good job there's radio 6 but there should be more. Sorry for any confusion.

    R.... B....

    @Roger Bennett oh, understandable.

    R.... B....

Hey I'm 16, your era was awesome as is this song

    R.... B....

@antonio villegas Good man yourself! Mr and Mrs Anderson were my neighbours and they are wonderful :-)

Martin Barre ingiustamente poco citato come musicista tra i migliori al mondo

    R.... D....

Rando Gattagio TUTTI I MEMBRI DEI JT SPACCAVANO IL CULO...LA MIGLIORE MUSICA MAI COMPOSTA ALTROCHE DEEP PURPLE LED ZEPPELIN E KING CRIMSON...IAN ANDERSON GENIO ALLA CHITARRA ACUSTICA...IN LISTA COI GENESIS PER MUSICA PIU GENIALE E INCANTEVOLE I JETHRO TULL VINCONO PER AVER SUONATO TUTTI I SUONI DEL MONDO!

    R.... D....

@ballaballapo d'accordo su tutto, pero' non citerei in negativo i king crimson; oltre che essere musicisti sopraffini, hanno il merito enorme di avere dato il via a quel fenomeno ineguagliabile che è stato il prog :)

    R.... D....

Gianfranco Ludovisi IL PROG, SECONDO ME È NATO CON I BEATLES (SGT) E AMPLIFICATO DAI PINK FLOYD, POI I KG HANNO ALLARGATK IL DISCORSO MA SPERIMENTAZIONI ERANO GIA STATE FATTE!

  19. R.... L....

I'm no expert on drumming but goddam Barlow just kills me, it's like this on the whole SFTW album I don't think it would have worked without him.

    R.... L....

Barlow was a master. According to the legendary John Bonham, Barlow was the greatest drummer England produced.

    R.... L....

A lot of Tull music would have been very different with Barlow...from Thick as a Brick right thru to Stormwatch...he made a huge contribution to the sound.

    R.... L....

    Roo right

    R.... L....

I was a pro drummer for 20 years & the only guy I just could not get a handle on was Barriemore Barlow - he was unique. Listen to that huge tom roll he does on 'Hunting Girl' - at the time no-one couild believe it, wasn't studio trickery but I saw him nail it live. And he would repeat this stuff night after night after night without fail.
    Just astounding.

  20. R.... ....

5:00-6:00: Anybody else get choked up at this part?

    R.... ....

    esa parte es magia

I envision 18" tall stone henge monuments in danger of being trampled by midgets in elf costumes...

Tull is a treasure of progressive rock!

    R.... ....

@Chris C Hehehe! Stonehenge by Spinal Tap is very Tullesque, from this period.

I can’t help but smile like a happy idiot

  21. R.... W....

    pronounced "pee-brok" , Scot-Gaelish for piper music !!! ...

    R.... W....

Or otherwise known as "Pee Break" which was the in joke when Tull performed this live.

    Piobareachdt. Classical music for bagpipes.

  22. J.... B....
