Hey, so it's been 8 years since I last commented on this video, stating "will eventually buy the album". Well, I bought the album and I'm pleased with it. Glad I bought it.

Jethro Tull is ALWAYS genius. Genius notes, genius lyrics, genius musicianship. And how sexy is he. He has it all, brains and beauty.

7th grade discovers this band and this song. Decades later and probably 20 shows later still fanatical about the talent diversity showmanship and work ethic, like no other. No comparisons. Think about it.

I've always felt like this song could be a really great song if it just had a little more... It's okay, and it has some great stuff, but if it had an exciting bridge or chorus with a change of pace/a good hook it could be really good, rather than that mediocre song in the middle of a great album

Ashamed to say, I'm 35 and this is the day I learned about Jethro Tull... simply amazing!!

Check out the Heavy Horses album. Tull is unparalleled. They are their own genre. I've seen them more than half a dozen times and Ian Anderson is the best frontman in history. Athleticism with a Monty Python brand of humour sprinkled in.

A lot of old folk songs were quite lewd, by innuendo rather than explicitly. It's just in the same tradition.

Gotta love this guy and the music of fine art and versatility.
Usually I just listen to whatever I'm making at the time and fighting demons when I'm not.
I don't actually like 80% of what I listen to, so finding this band was pretty interesting to me etc etc...

I was the same when I was 15 and I found and like Tull because their music is so interesting. I also like Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree these days. I find that prog music is a real treat for the mind!

Great song with drums and guitar to match - I particularly liked the version off Bursting Out, which was one of the stand-out tracks off that album.

This to me is where earth meets the sky. Classic meets Prock by way of the cathedral. It always evokes strange and fantastical images, and that Ladies and Gentlemen is Talent! Hats off and a Hearty Pint to Mr, Anderson and Crew for entertaining and educating for lo these many years. Well Done!

I am a house music lover but JETHRO TULL is something I have been since the early 70`s. No better!!!

Now that the grammys are coming up I'd like to remind everyone how meaningless those awards are when Jethro Tull was award best HEAVY METAL band award in 1989 beating out METALLICA???!!!!!
Well, although I think JT smokes metallica in talent it doesn't in Heavy metal. So to all you great bands that haven't made it into the HOF or gotten a grammy the music industry is about a competent as the obama administration which , if I have to spell it out, they both don't know shyt.

People seem to forget that it was a new category called "Hard Rock/Heavy Metal", which was dumb because that spans way too many styles. But anyways, people got butt hurt over it then and still whine about it to this day.

As much as I like their music - they always manage to use the worst photos of their singer for their albums... This one looks like "What the hell are you doing in my forest, I was trying to take a crap".

And then there's this live album, "Bursting out", where Anderson stands over the onlooker, and you can clearly see that the seam in the crotch of his white spandex knickerbockers is torn. I wonder who picked the photos for those record covers...

Trine Langhor That was always Anderson's schtick. When he started out I reckon he felt like an outsider and all the band's imagery reflected that. You can see that starkly on most of Tull's album covers, particularly on their debut album, This Was.

+Computer Whiz 1999 No doubt early Tull was outstanding, but I like to class each in their own category. The main reason I love the band is because every album manages a different feel to different style of music. I love it all, and I hope you do too. This was my second Tull album, so I admit bias on listening to this one a touch more than earlier albums.

It does seem to be a favorite among Pagans. I'm one myself. Also a big JT fan.

This is my favorite JT song, yet I hadn't always known what the lyrics were about.  Reading them, I'm assuming it's about having a tussle in the hay with a hunting woman that a farm hand finds sexy?

Yes, out on a fox hunt, her horse refuses to jump one of the obstacles, so she waits until the rest of the riders are gone and the riding crop gets put to better uses with the groom

He finds it erotic to a certain point, but in the end, the noble lady's practises become too violent or obscene for him, so he begs her to let him get to his feet, and politely blames his inability to cope with such "refined acts" on his "low birth". Spot the contrast between this salacious content, on the one hand, and the aristocratic parlance as well as the music, which is as solemn as a religious hymn, on the other hand - the most adorable combination of lyrics and music I ever heard.

The lady might looking for fox close getting Ian can you answer us ;) ?

Musically speaking, Songs From The Wood is one of the best albums ever recorded.
Every note, every instrument is perfect.
From lute to piccolo to electric bass...all perfect.
The musicianship is spectacular, the lyrics sublime.
But I think the highest praise should go to Ian Anderson for his skills as a producer.
You can tell this was a project from his heart.

Couldn't agree more Matthew. Wore out three vinyl , two cds . Although the sound isn't as rich, I'm glad for Mp3 format strictly from a financial point of view. Brilliantly performed live and absolutely a masterpiece of an album. My father used to come in the house mad as hell with me listening to Aqualung fully cranked on the Stereo after school in the seventies. The day came when I purchased this album and was laying on the couch listening to The Whistler and asked me who it was. When I responded that it was Ian Anderson he told me that is what I should be listening to instead of *#%^ing Jethro Tull. He grew to really appreciate this album even after I explained the irony in what he said. I'm now a 60 year old grandfather and still play this album regularly.
