Jethro Tull - For Michael Collins, Jeffrey And Me Lyrics
Watery eyes of the last sighing seconds,
blue reflections mute and dim
beckon tearful child of wonder
to repentance of the sin.
And the blind and lusty lovers
go on believing nothing
since something has to die.
And the ape's curiosity --
money power wins,
and the yellow soft mountains move under him.
I'm with you L.E.M.
though it's a shame that it had to be you.
The mother ship is just a blip
from your trip made for two.
It's on my mind I'm left behind
when I should have been there.
Walking with you.
And the limp face hungry viewers
fight to fasten with their eyes
like the man hung from the trapeze --
whose fall will satisfy.
And congratulate each other
on their rare and wondrous deed
That their begrudged money bought
to sow the monkey's seed.
And the yellow soft mountains
they grow very still
witness as intrusion the humanoid thrill.

What are the yellow soft mountains? I love this song so much.
The Moon, my friend.
@Troy Carlson Thank you!
@geraniumkiss You're welcome! I love this song too. It may be my very favorite from Tull.
Bare hitting the high notes.
He plays nothing but the best
been listening to this song all week!
Been listening my whole life, well since I was 18 anyway. So twenty years about. But this is a special time, and it would be nice to see it get a little bit of attention
Kinda bummed no Apollo docs have ever used this. It’s one of my top 5 Tull songs hands down.
I'm 53 yrs old but really didn't play JT all that much. Heard what I heard (radio etc) but now I'm going crazy on their whole discography and this Album "benefit" is so damm good. Major tull kick lately. It's awesome. Headphones a must :)
fifty years ago today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The perfect song to play on the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11.
This should be trending.
Not because of the anniversary coming up, just because it's a brilliant and beautiful piece of music.
wonderful track
pop got us up @ 0300 hours we were extremely pised !!!! LOL hahaa
One of my favorite Tull songs.
I never knew what this song was about what his the acroynm LEM mean just a wow moment thiking all those years I have listened to this tune and not knowing what it was about
It’s about being left behind and no man was ever lonelier or more “left behind” than Michael Collins who flew, by himself around the moon, tens of thousands of miles from any other humans. All while Buzz and Neil did their “rare and wondrous deed” before the eyes of the world. I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like when he was on the far side of the moon, 250,000 miles from earth in total darkness, unable to communicate, alone.
Such an amazing song.
1969 in 2019.
Nothing like them today, just pop tarts.
Salute to the man who was there but goes forever unrecognized!!!
Ray Finkle true
Collins' books are outstanding. And I only recently pointed out to a friend it was THIS Collins the song refers to.
hes still with us as is Crazy Buzz lol !!!
Never realised it was that Michael Collins initially. Sensational tribute to the "3rd wheel" of Apollo 11.
oh wow another jethro tull song that blows me away, it kinda getting anoying now jethro tull keeps feeding my fucking bangers!!!!!!!!
Three people don’t believe the lunar landings happened.
Why more then that- do you? I dont- and i also think they might have who knows- But you mean they drove there went out of the ship landed on the moon walked around did not get freaked out at all then jumped back on the ship and turned around and drove home lol no problem right- how come we never did it again? Well justlike Paul McCartney said in his 1980 song "Nobody Knows" well who knows? ok they di why not after all i was not there so i cant say no to it
@me & you Don't mind me, asshole, I'm just downvoting your absurdly proud ignorance, you peevish little twat. Nothing personal.
Great songb
who is Michael Collins ?
@joe mer There was only, at most, 90 hours of oxygen on board. There's no way we could have put a second LEM on the moon within 4 days.
@joe merAnd he very recently said not even that was a given thing. Brave man, truly.
joe mer not a chance. Had the ascent stage of the LEM failed there was literally nothing they could do and they would still have been there to this day.
In fact, this is the prepared speech Nixon had in case of mission failure:

gil.gosseyn great point. Just heard an interview with Ian Anderson saying the “take a little extra care” line was specifically about them not dying so that Michael wouldn’t have to go home alone and be the most hated man in the world.
David Lienert do you have a link to that interview?
Best quality and most competent rip/upload on youtube, and this has the least views. Whatever youtube. lol
OMG! a girl likes Jethro tull! That makes 1
One more than likes Rush.@Kate Dick
Great song!

I'm with you boys, so please employ just a little extra care.
