My dad subjected my brother and I to this back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Hated it back then but now I can appreciate it for what it is. This guy is a musical genius.

My Brother made me a Tape of Tulls Music. I think Tull on one side and Cream on the other. my brother used to torture me with CCR. Glad to have an older brother and sister who got me to appreciate good Music.

Damn this song plays many different instruments that perfectly compliment each other. Complex , very well produced , and fantastically performed.... Powerful and beautiful. Ian's voice was perfect for this.

Knowing what the song is really about wouldn't this be perfect for Bonfire of the Vanities or American Psycho or a little earlier time but What Makes Sammy Run, like a perfect entrance song for a Yuppie or any other cold blooded soulless executive?

The first Tull's song that I heard. I was 7. I heard it in my dad's car. Tull is his favourite group, and mine too. On the next year we were at his concert. Brilliant!
This was the first song that I called "my favourite". Now this isn't my favourite song. Now every Ian Anderson's song is my favourite.
A few months back we were at his concert again - the 50th anniversary of Jethro Tull. Brilliant! Some things never change. Thanks, Dad and thanks, Ian! God bless you!

My first Tull song! I was eight the first time I heard this. I think I was ten or eleven when I first heard Aqualung and Locomotive Breath. Even though I loved all three songs it took an embarrassing long time (years really) before I realized they were all by the same the same group.
I've seen him only once, back in '95 at Vets Memorial in Columbus Ohio.

I hadn't heard this song in YEARS!!! Thank you for posting this and especially the lyrics. I first heard this when I was 14, and I couldn't figure the lyrics out at all (and completely misunderstood several of them!).

You know you're blessed if you grew up with parents who introduced you to awesome classic songs, artists, and bands like this and many others across all genres of music. I thank God everyday for my parents, especially for them giving me awesome taste in music.
