Jerry Reed - A Thing Called Love Lyrics

Six foot six stood on the ground, weighted 235 pounds
But I saw that giant of a man brought down to his knees by love
He was the kind of man who would gamble on love
Look you in the eye and never back up
But I saw him crying like a little whipped pup because of love

Can't see it with your eyes, hold it in your hands
Like the rules that govern our land
Strong enough to rule the heart of every man, this thing called love

It can lift you up, it can put you down
Take your world and turn it all around
Ever since time nothing's ever been found stronger than love
Men like me they worry and doubt
Trouble their minds day in and day out
Too busy a livin' to worry about a thing called love

And then I see a mother's tenderness
As she holds her young close to her breast
Then I say thank God this world will win with the thing called love

  4. m.... ....

Anyone here know how to play this on guitar, I only know a very small.ammount if guit as r but this song makes me want to pick it up and become proficient at it.

  5. m.... ....

Yeah I listened all.the other versions . Even johnny cash's doesnt hold a candle to this version even close, this version is beautiful, jerry could really.sing soft lyrics when he wanted to , he could sing funny stories or soft songs. Hes the best talent if this style of music imo

  6. m.... ....

Definitely miss a talent like him. I treasure all of the music he made.

  9. D.... ....

Glen Campbell's latest and last version on Adios album is well done and Jerry would be proud. Plus warm production by Carl Jackson and lovely arrangement.

  10. A.... W....

  12. A.... M....

Love this beautiful song and Voice 🙂

  13. E.... M....

Jerry loved to play the guitar and always lit up the room when he came on stage when he toured

  14. R.... M....

So true. So real. So pretty. I can't understand why he is hardly ever mentioned with guitar greats.

  15. H.... M....

    the BEST VERSION , period!

    H.... M....

just found this gem man he could sing beautifully when he wanted to, such a great song

  16. J.... C....

Beautiful song from a legend. Rip Jerry

  17. J.... C....

Prefiero la versión que grabó Elvis , con coros suena mucho mejor , aquí está muy pobre el sonido y la orquesta no parece encajar demasiado en algunas partes .

  18. J.... Y....

Certainly one of his best vocals.

  19. M.... P....

    0:40 brings you up !

  20. K.... ....

    you tube playing this.. wtf

  21. M.... C....

Oh, my his guitar thrills me. This is what makes his version of his song the very best, including Elvis, Cash, and all the rest who recorded it.

  22. e.... ....

Heard this on the radio today. Up until today, I thought only Johnny Cash sang this song.

  23. A.... M....

beautiful......heard Glen Campbell sang it once, that was fantastic too.

  26. S.... B....

    Love this song

  27. M.... C....

One of greatest gospel songs written. Gospel you say? Yes! God created love and Jerry gives Him credit here.

    M.... C....

Ah, dskap201, but the GOSPEL is the greatest love.

    M.... C....

All of you are faking your Jesus, including here.

    M.... C....

I know what the gospel is. I am born again. And when I met Jesus I found He was LOVE.

  28. M.... C....

Best version of this beautiful sung. He wrote it; he sings it best!

    M.... C....

Most under-rated singer/songwriter, musician, artist/ actor of ALL time! LOVE him BIG~TIME!!

    M.... C....

    Mary he sure did.

  29. M.... C....

Beautiful.  So often nobody can sing a song like the composer--they just feel it so keenly.

  30. J.... S....

Very moving.....expressed in this version the way I think the writer intended and meant....Jerry rest in peace....and thanks for one of my very favorite songs.

  31. H.... P....

Excellent song , like the way Jerry Reed sings this song  his voice suits it , have heard Johnny Cash's version as well. Also Elvis Presley's version , he did it later in his career , and mumbles throughout the song hard to understand the words . But yeah Top Marks for this song. Well done Jerry Reed and whoever posted this great classic !! Thanks so much.

  32. k.... ....

My dad passed away last year. This reminds me of the place where he used to take me to get a haircut as a kid. South Gate Barber Shop on Valley Mills Drive in Waco Texas. Now Gone. They always had country classics playing low while you got your hair cut.

    k.... ....

true kev,how them tunes can take you back in time..

    k.... ....

yessir, Claude Reeds Barber shop in Canton, Texas also. RIP

  33. R.... B....

    I LOVE his singin!!!

  34. D.... B....

    My all time favorite song!

  35. D.... E....

A Unique Talent.  Great song.  We miss you JR!

  36. t.... ....

Most underrated gifted Musician ever.  Jerry Reed is the man.

    t.... ....

He’s not even the best musician in his own family ,he’s solely responsible for the collapse of the Presley dream ,allegedly spotted rifling through the pool house for sellable memorabilia not nine mins after the kings death ,by the way I’ve been hunting this elusive bastard through time ,space and dimensions ,I feel like it’ll never end like a ghost with a southern accent who refuses to admit liability for his gypsy like wandering hands

    t.... ....

@TheMemphisflash1 I wonder who is the best buttwipe in your family....

    t.... ....

@TheMemphisflash1 what in the fuck are you evem talking about? Just random muttering? What ? "Allegedly" I don't even know what context you're talking about

    t.... ....

@TheMemphisflash1 just searched "jerry reed presley poolhouse"in multiple.different ways to find any results and what do you know, nothing showed up? Keep jerry Reed's named out of your cocksucker you disgrace, go fuck yourself loser

    t.... ....

@#1 Fan hes a fucking liar I searched al sorts of keywords of jerry reed and a pool house and elvis presley theres nothing there. If jerry reed was such a shitty musician why can we observe him in videos picking guitar like a master?playing amd performing life with george jones, marty Robbins and waylon Jennings? 3 other legends. Jerry reed wrote his own songs . The only thing jerry reed ever stole was the coaches play book in the movie the waterboy maybe that's where this faggot did his research from and just subbed in different words. You hear that you son of a bitch fuck off

  37. J.... L....

    Happy birthday Snowman.

  38. b.... ....

    My God he was so talented... I miss talents and tunes like these;
    The culture got so perverse

    b.... ....

perversion to cover the lack of imagination and talent.

    b.... ....

Exactly my sentiments. My God, what talent! Artist like these are sorely missed and much needed these days.

    b.... ....

    I agree

  39. M.... C....

Cause I love his guitar licks between the lines. That is the way it should be played, and he is the only one that does this. He knew how he wanted it to sound when he wrote it, and he got it right!!!!

    M.... C....

@Mary Cage There are several good covers of this song but I have agree with you. He had a very good voice to go along with his guitar work. Certainly one talented individual!

    M.... C....

    Glenn Campbell gets close.

  40. M.... C....

He wrote it and he is the only one knows how to sing and play it.

  41. C.... ....

Out of all the magnificent covers of this song performed by the likes of Elvis and the Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash, Jerry Reed's original performance of this song resonates stronger with me.  Maybe it's because Jerry was just such a big-hearted goofball, or maybe because he was just such an amazingly talented picker and guitarist, I can't say.  I missed being exposed to Jerry's music until much later in life; I won't make that mistake when it comes time for me to find what he's singing about, and someday teach some little ones about music.

    Rest in Peace, Jerry.  <3

  42. F.... ....

ANOTHER DAMN STUPID GEICO COMMERCIAL... HEY GEICO, STICK WITHT HE LIZARD...

  43. c.... ....

This is a wonderful song. Elvis does a great version of it (though not as good as this one, I have to say, and I'm a huge Elvis fan!) on his gospel album, "He Touched Me."

  44. G.... M....

    Truly beautiful

  45. u.... ....

    GO! GATORS!

  46. S.... y....

    @maxwelld1961 Me to max

  47. M.... M....

Jerry your still my favorite of all time.R.I.P.

  48. t.... ....

    A great song

  49. P.... ....

If this guy is the original person that sang it,then i'll tell ya,The Imperials did a very good job 'cause the band that they performed it with sounds pretty close to this!

    P.... ....

    He wrote the song.

    P.... ....

Imperials did a beautiful version. I listened to it after I read your comment.

  50. f.... ....

Thanks so much for posting this. Still my favorite Jerry Reed song, and the best version of it.

  51. i.... ....

I have always LOVED this song... Jerry Reed rocks!

  52. l.... ....

  54. r.... h....

    Did Jerry Reed write this?

  55. P.... V....

    @Sarasdad91

I'm wondering the same thing. This is larger than life.

  56. t.... ....

Amazing this only has 309 views... one of the best JR songs ever, great post

    t.... ....

But as of today (02/08/19) 123,160 views. That's an average of over 15,000+ views for the last 8 years. Not bad ... but I think it should've done better. This is a very impressive piece. Loved to watch him play this on Jim Ed Browns show. Very JR, for sure. R.I.P. Snowman.

  57. T.... ....

Thank you for this Madgab. The best version of a beautiful song.

  58. P.... V....

Original studio version at last! Thanks for posting!
