Jerry Lee Lewis - Ramblin' Rose Lyrics

Everyone knows she's a ramblin' rose
She's a beauty growin' wild!
Birds in their nest seem to whistle their best
For mother nature's favourite child!

She's got the kind of affection
That just winds around your heart!
You better run for protection
Or she might upset your flower cart!

I hate to disclose that ma ramblin' rose
Is gonna meet her Waterloo!
I let her play but she can't get away
'Cause I know just what to do!

Anyone knows you can train a rose
To be a clingin' vine!
So, from this day hence, there'll be a picket fence
'Round that ramblin' rose of mine!

Now, everyone knows she's a ramblin' rose
She's a beauty growin' wild!
Birds in their nest seem to whistle their best
For mamma nature's favorite child!

She's got the kind of affection
That just winds around your heart!
You'd better run for protection
Or she might upset your flower cart!

I hate to disclose that ma ramblin' rose
Is gonna meet her Waterloo!
I let her play but she can't get away
'Cause I know just what to do!

Anyone knows you can train a rose
To be a clingin' vine!
So, from this day hence, there'll be a picket fence
'Round that ramblin' rose of mine!

Is this the original version of this song?

    R.... G....

    Nat King Cole

Yes, Jerry Lee Lewis first released the Marijohn Wilkin, Fred Burch and Obrey Wilson song in 1962. Ted Taylor released a version in 1965 (my favorite), Beauregard and The Tuffs released a version (with a bit of fuzz) in 1965, Dutch rock/pop band The Motions released a version on 1967, but MC5 released their 1969 version (which seems inspired by Ted Taylor's version) that perhaps has had the most exposure. Nat 'King' Cole first recorded the similarly titled song 'Ramblin' Rose' in 1962 (which went to #2 on the music charts), but this different song was written by Noel & Joe Sherman and had many, many cover versions.

    True !
This bout first time Jerry Lee sounds a bit lame-ish
    (ehr, not really, but...)
in comparison to Ted or MC5.

Still, nice version in it's own right.

  10. D.... ....

Gang war with Johnny Thunders did a version of this song that sounds like it's trying to Coppy The MC5 version. But both the MC5 version and Jerry Lewis version are better, because Johnny Thunders is a Tallentless homo
