Jerry Lee Lewis - Just Dropped In Lyrics
I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in
I found my mind in a brown paper bag but then
I tripped on a cloud and fell there eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
(Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, what condition my condition was in)
I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
I watched myself crawlin' out as I was crawlin' in
I got up so tight I couldn't unwind
I saw so much, I broke my mind
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, what condition my condition was in)
Someone painted April fool in big black letters on a dead end sign
Eight miles out of Memphis and I got no spare
Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
I said
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh yeah)

Jerry Lee Lewis Just Dropped In Comments
Written by Mickey Newbury
One of a few songs which has entirely different yet absolutely wonderful covers.
Classic. very good. thanks.
Wow, had no idea. I just heard the First Edition version and read in the comments that ol' JLL did this song.
it took me time to find This brilliant version it deserves anyway i love it
I could be glad that he gave it back to Mickey Newbury. Jerry hated it!
Jerry always adds a little spark to the song and makes it rock. I especially like how he can take a sad Hank Williams song and make it happy
How did I miss this one?
This one is also better than Willie Nelsons
What is it with these covers changing lyrics?
Different artists each interpret a song separately, rather than trying to copy the original. We call it "Making a song your own".
Also this version predates the First Edition
This song was originally recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis on the Album "Soul My Way" on Smash Records, released June 15, 1967. As far as I can determine Teddy Hill;s (a great version) version was released in October, 1967. This aside, to me the most authentic and entertaining version is the live one by the author of the song, Mickey Newbury.
best Newbury version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9C1h71eWHI
I'm nodt sure of the release day of Soul My Way but the album tracks were recorded in May and August 1967 according to Smash information, making the June date unlikely.
rejected by jerry lee lewis as a single and originally performed by a soul singer called Teddy hill
Leo Bufalari that is excellent sounds like David Clayton Thomas. Canadian soul
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a 73yo mad keen Aussie fan.

Jerry Lee Lewis made the first recording on May 9, 1967, but his recording wasn't released until November 1967. Terry Hill and The Southern Band recorded the song in October 1967 and the recording was released the same month.
In other words, Lewis made the first recording (other than the Newbury cdmo) and Hill had the first release.
Jerry Lee Lewis was the first person to record this song, predating the First Edition's version by about a year.
