Jerry Lee Lewis - I Wish I Was Eighteen Again Lyrics

In a bar in Memphis, an old man came in
I thought he was out of his his head
Being a young man, I just laughed it off
I'm dreaming that he understood

I'll never again turn the young ladies heads
Or go running off into the wind
I'm three quarters home now from the start to the end
I wish I was eighteen again

I wish I was eighteen again
My God, I'd like to go back
Where I've never been but old folks, old oaks
They stand tall but just pretend
I wish I was eighteen again

Time turns the pages and life it goes so fast
The years turn the black hair to gray
I talked to young folks but they don't understand
The things this old man's has to say

Oh, I wish I was eighteen again
Going back where I've never been
But old folks, old oaks
Standing tall, just pretend
I'll never be eighteen again

Jerry Lee's one of the very best, but this live version isn't. He just goes through the motions. Too bad, because its a great song and his studio version is really fine.

Such a sad song, but beautifully performed, in the right tempo, by a genius. I know that the word is overused but it applies to JLL.

  28. V.... ....

This is what rock'n'roll is about! The killer!

  29. R.... m....

Jerry recorded this on Electra Records around 1983 or so. The studio version is one of the most poignant songs you will ever hear. George Burns recorded it after Jerry. JERRY"S WAS THE BEST- JUST PURE EMOTION!

    R.... m....

The sad thing is that Jerry, even in his later years did not get the respect that he deserved and earned from the public at large. He recorded so many just fantastic songs that should have gone to # 1, but he just did not get the airplay. But if you understand and recognize talent- you know he was one of the best singers and expressive piano players who ever lived.

    R.... m....

    Couldn't agree more!  CHEERS!

    R.... m....

He really deserved more! One of the greatest there ever was!

George Burns' version is more poignant, but nobody beats JLL's delivery! Thanks for posting it.
