Jerry Cantrell - Castaway Lyrics
Day break, wind is blowing strong
No escape, caught on a reef in the storm
Castaway, licking his cracked lips sore
Patient, waits, hoping the rats reach the shore...yeah...yeah
Remembering, those he left and how
Out in space, laughing at all below
Island stage, plays to his thoughts and ego...yeah...yeah
Dusk fall, fading sun, no fire light
Memories amplify his plight
Gathering, searching for shelter above
Feel the sting, choking on hoarded love...yeah...yeah
Thin, cold, tired...castaway

Jerry's vocalizing is the fucking best
Found it!
I'm a huge Queensryche fan and think Chris DeGarmo is a musical genius. It's my understanding that he collaborated with Jerry on this album. Does anyone know if it's just certain songs and which ones they are or is he on this whole album. Thank you.
Its just for the song 'Anger Rising'.
I love how that line "thin cold tired Castaway" is just below the music and how it rings out at the end. if I didn't know better I would say that was Layne's voice.
100% AIC
I fuckin love jerrys like the 90s arent over yet music style
I've liked his vocals to the Alice in Chains style, this album he shows all his power as a musician!
@MAURY JÚNIORhe's sick one man awesome show
Still think that Deg Trip was far darker than any AIC album. The riffs were darker and the themes. Two songs from the Deg Trip writing sessions eventually made it to AIC songs - Died and Get Born Again.
I square dance naked to this song.
likely best A.I.C/Cantrell song after layne death.
This album was written shortly before Layne's death
HOPING THE RATS REACH THE SHORE!!!!!!!
genuis..a masterpiece from a master.
Saw Jerry live at the edge Fest at Molson Park weeks after Laynes departure it was a hard gig for him but the fans were still in his corner
Jerry's solo work is much better than the new "Alice In Chains" stuff, by far.
am sorry for your dog
+John Smith Subjetive
No way. Saw them in cleveland. Amazing show! William Duvall is one amazing singer. The new songs haven't the same grit, instead they are songs of healing and wisdom resulting from the heroin years.
Nah, both are amazing, I think I like Black Gives Way To Blue even more than this album
John Smith Both are amazing in their own way but Deg Trip is just deeply personal. It retains some of the hallmarks of an Alice track i.e. the sinister riffs and lyrics but something about it is distinctly Jerry. The man literally went into a degradation trip of sorts, secluding himself for months in his home. Never going out. That's a very serious head trip. What we got was 30 songs. 25 made it into the album and 2 became Alice songs - Died and Get Born Again.
you are quite welcome. stay pretty!
Haha, I know what you mean by it, it just sounds nasty! And by dictionary definition it is supposed to mean dirty or wet like a cave or basement (: And thanks!
dank is good. my medical bud is dank, dank is good. and fyi, you're cute! hella cute!
Agreed!
Yikes, some of us do I guess. i don't.... sounds like a dirty cave or something
good lord!
this is the only way i could get even more hype at an AIC gig. They really should though.
lol..cool. we say hella dank!
English slang for something being cool
the unrequited love of heroin
Pure fucking bad ass, I love Jerry's music.
Jerry had 1 in each hand and played the other 2 with his feet..cuz hes THAT good..YEAH!!
actually i dont think its a member of the band..the tats look different.
or the chains without alice..wait..who the hell is alice?
EARGASM!!!
THIS IS MUSIC IN THE PUREST FORM.
oh ok thxxxxxxx
@LordAkaneon You make a really good point. We should be subbed up and so i am gonna head right over.
The sad thing is that Matchbox 20 isn't even a shitty band in comparison to the shit we've got now, they're almost in the same boat, talent has been replaced with autotune
no prob'.
@questscience1 oops, i just realized via default iphone settings that i subbed with the talk channel (laroccavlogga). i will sub ya with the strum channel (laroccacounty1) as well. Two subs in two minutes!
@questscience1 Wow, somebody who knows enough about site maintenance to reply. I will be subscribing this time by.
You are so right! Jerry Cantrell is a wonderful musician. Check out "Breaks My Back". Also, "Satisfy". Both by Mr. Cantrell.
Does anyone know whose arm that is? :33
Hoping the rats reach the shore! Jerry Cantrell and Zakk Wylde will never be remembered as the worlds best guitarists but daaaaamn, dudes like this can get shit done. Jerry's so much bigger than AIC but thanks to corporate powers your more likely ta hear matchbox 20 on the radio! What in the name of un-holy fuck?
I wouldn't know if that's true, but nothing would be too surprising...
And why not? 1000 $ worth of uppers isn't so many after all, I know I did crazy shit like that with my band, only we didn't record at the time, we were touring... So - I'd say the story can be true :)
one solo an hour isnt unheard of. sabbath made their first record in 9 hours, sure production time was alot shorter back then but im only talking about the leads. im assuming thats what the crack was for. i wouldve dissmissed that as ridiculous if i hadnt heard it so many times and given the history of AIC it seems the most hard to believe things were true
Okay, lets think about this. this album originally had what 20 something songs? But the record company said he had to shorten it. Thats like a song an hour. No use your brain.
i'm gonna roll a joint to this one!
Truijjo's bass tone is fucking vicious
i heard somwhere that jerry brought about 1000 dollars worth of crack to the studio and recorded all his solos for this album in one day. is there anyone who knows if thats true?
ghostwhiskey Google is your friend in this regard
Jerry Cantrell is truly great. The AIC sound is different, because of the harmonies. The harmonies with another singer is part of the beauty. This song, and the whole album, is good too!
@Jeff2870 hah thought I was the only one who noticed.
fukin awesome song...i like the song is still dark....man jerry should have continues as being the lead singer too..hes fukin awesome..but cant forget layne..he was the best...it suks ill never see him in conert..
Hell yeah it is!
this couldn't have been any better!
This song could have been the soundtrack for "Hellraiser", specially the mid-to-end part with the high-pitched guitar doing the eeriest "solo" ever. I am not even sure if that is technically a solo, but who cares. Great song and album by Jerry.
That's why it sounds so awesome also. Jerry is a guitar god and knows how to make great and emotional music. Inspirational stuff right here.
At one point in the song you can hear four different guitar parts at once. Jerry's compositional masterpiece.
Great tune. That little chorus-breakdown gets in your head and it's hard to get rid of it!
