Jenny Lewis - Dogwood Lyrics
The dogwood's in bloom
Take off your shoes
You cannot choose your family, oh
There's nothing we can do
But screw
In the springtime, in the house
I was determined to work it out
Oh, in the springtime, in the house
The neighbors heard us scream and shout
And somewhere a screw got loose along the way
And your manners have gone away
And I believe that there will come a day
I believe that you will chase me away
So they can't prove
Love is not enough for you
There's nothing I can do
'Cause I fell in love with you
In the springtime, in the house
I was determined to work it out
Oh, in the springtime, in the house
I never told you I had my doubts
And somewhere a screw got loose along the way
And our manners have gone away
And I believe that there will come a day
I believe that you will chase me away
So that you can prove
Love is not enough for you
You thought I was your muse
But all along it was you
And the dogwood's in bloom
There's nothing we can do
But screw, oh

Always the same Eric Satie "Gymnopodies". At least Jenny Lewis should add after the title "inspired by ..."
Very reminiscent of Acid Tongue
This album is just FULL of little surprises, isn't it?
Hi Jenny It's Gordon Blackwell. We went to Van Nuys Jr. High together. Loving your music. We should collab sometime. I produce tracks.
"On The Line" is easily one of the best albums of 2019.
The production/mix is just too good.
"In the springtime
In a little house
I was determined
To work it out".
Represents my 20's perfectly. Loved this song from the first note.
so beautiful
You're probably trapped in the same conundrum as i... Is Jenny Lewis SEXY or ADORABLE?

This beautiful song reminds me of the late, great Laura Nyro at her songwriting and vocal peak.
The more I listen to this song the more I love it. And, I can't stop listening to it. Resurfaces thoughts and emotions of, and helps put voice to my failed marriage through music. Such bittersweet thoughts. And that was back in the year 2000! Now THAT is the power of music. Art that evokes strong emotion is the most potent, even though it breaks your heart all over again...
So beautiful.
Thank you, Ms. Lewis.
Damn. Such low viewership. I hate that.
Jenny a Slam Dunk! I love the new album and this song just slays me. <3
I like the screwing part....
Reminds me of a Carpenters song. Simply stunning.
Which one? :)
Jenny does sound a bit like Karen Carpenter
Gymnopodies. Cool use of it (at least the first chords). WOW !! I knew it would eventually get used... never knew where.
