Jenny Lewis - Born Secular Lyrics

I was born secular
And inconsolable
I heard that he walked
He walked the earth

God goes
Where he wants
And who knows
Where he is not
Not in me

It's the way
Mothers greet their sons
When it's a moment too late
It's the law of the land
That sometimes the dam just breaks

God works in mysterious ways
And God gives
And then he takes
From me
From me

    [Verse 1]
    I was born secular
    And inconsolable
    I heard that he walked
    He walked the earth

    [Chorus]
God goes (God goes, God goes)
    Where he wants
And who knows (Who knows, who knows)
    Where he is not
    Not in me

    [Verse 2]
    It's the way
    Mothers greet their sons
When it's a moment too late
It's the law of the land
That sometimes the dam just breaks

    [Chorus]
God works (God works, God works)
    In mysterious ways
And God gives (God gives, God gives)
    And then he takes
    From me

Thank you. Your song touched and heals. I hadn't even realized I still had such ragged edges.

Born Godless. Raised by parents that valued freedom of thought even if they are Christians they were smart enough to know faith that is forced will fail. They wanted me to research and decide. I've read dozens of "Holy Books". Bible, Torah, Koran, Tripitaka, Vedas The Gospel According To Spiritism the list goes on includes many individual or stand alone documents. So no one can say I'm this way do to lack of knowledge when knowledge is the reason I'm still Godless. My only regret is the knowledge that I will die then cease to exist.

take comfort in that you've actually had the chance to exist!

    God gives,then he takes. Brilliant

  11. MissGpunk

that's the point godvlogger, secular is the state of being separate from religion. she is clearly struggling with religion.

omg the drums, the harmonies, the everything

    Patrick McGlynn

reasonformirrors agreed the first lines pull you in...then the drums destroy you or lift you...who knows...brilliant song

    Patrick McGlynn

The drums blow me away in this song...they start off as a tiff tiff on the edge then engage more and more as she lets go...until they erupt and take over the end...so poignant love it
