Jennings, Mason - Bitter Heart Lyrics

Hold me closer, I am open, I’ve been waiting, don’t be shy
Wrap your loving arms around me, press your face against mine
Once a liar, once a cheater, yes your light went underground
I have seen it here inside me and that light is what was found
Come home, come home sweetheart
Come home bitter heart
Let go and love
Are your broken, are you beaten, are you stranded in your head
Has your path made you a stranger
Does that stranger want you dead
Come home, come home sweetheart
Come home bitter heart
Let go and love
Our world is filled with ordinary things
Fear and hate and doubt
Our world is filled with only what we see
Can we see love now
Can we see love now

Jennings, Mason Bitter Heart Comments

Rambling malaise of hurt feelings are fine I guess, but I was waiting for a melody, that never came. Maybe that was his point? He has a very soulful voice, but this is not a song I could get into, I think. Unlike, "which way your heart will go", which is very melodic, and my introduction to this obviously brilliant musician, which I found because of Ghost Town, and hence my searching for other gems he may have on offer.

I love the song and video and it is really amazing to hear you revisit some of the stylistic choices of earlier work. It really works.

As a photo nerd, the large and medium format cameras caught my eye, but I have to say:

Shouldn't all the images be upside down and backwards? I'd like one of those cameras with the amazing right-side up images!

Hi Mason. it's Jennifer (Justin and I met you at the Coffee Hag in Kato..you blessed Zoey with the G chord :)). I need to let you know how much the album has touched my soul. After having the honor of seeing you perform in Kato we learned that my mom's lung cancer has spread to her brain. "Minnesota" has carried me through the lows of watching my best friend, my mom decline paired with the ultimate joy of Zoey making her way into this world in a couple wks. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I forgot to turn the radio to 89.3 at 4:30 for a performance at Westminster Church. I turned it on around 5:00 and caught this song. Simply amazing. Something eerie, warm, and powerful when he sings "come home".

This is another among the dozens and dozens of great Mason Jennings songs. The video is cool and seems in harmony with Mason's style. Why the hell is this guy not better known? I don't know, but I guess his low key, not-consumer-driven approach will enable more people to experience a discovery for themselves as they explore his many great tunes. Can't wait to see him at the Fillmore in San Fran in October 2011.
