"Rock Music" was written by Craig Chaquico (music and lyrics) and Jeannette Sears (lyrics) It was performed by Craig Chaquico, Pete Sears, Paul Kantner, David Freiberg, Aynsley Dunbar and Mickey Thomas of Jefferson Starship (1979)

I was 18 living alone in a one bedroom apartment. Didn't have a lot of money, but I invested in a $2500 home stereo system. I'd been saving from a full time job and a few part time since I was 14. There's nothing quite like a vinyl album and this whole album sounds amazing on vinyl. One of my all time favorites.

Best line up of the group IMHO. Mickey Thomas is just an incredible singer. What a vocal range. Loved his voice since I first heard him with Elvin Bishop on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". The whole band seems to have gotten a great big injection of testosterone for this album. None of that atrocious hippy shit of their past and not a sign of the light FM crap they produced in the future when slick returned. Just a great rocking album.


The problem wasn't that Slick returned but that Kantner departed!

Winds of Change was a great album with Grace though.

Would have been stupendous if Grace was on this album... might have been as big as  the Fleetwood Mac or Styx  albums who were far overrated back then.

a majorly overlooked effort by the Jefferson Starship, overshadowed by the glut of great music that was being released in those days, and the disco craze.  The number of hits on the viewing list is a testament to that.

This groovy beat drove me nuts as a teenage drummer...I couldn't get it out of my head!

Captures the essence of what makes Rock n' Roll great...peeps seem to be forgetting, what with other less cool genres (won't name names) preempting it & hogging the spotlight.

They were beginning to lose focus by this time. Couldn't possibly compare the likes of "Red Octopus," & "Spitfire" to this drek. Yes, the song has energy but this NOT the Jefferson Starship. This is some wedding band wannabes who were the Jefferson Starship & are now pale imitations. There was always some tiny sparks of the old JS genius but this would have never launched this band if they were new. No Grace Slick -- you have nothing. It was like The Doors -- no Jim Morrison, no Doors.

Great song it reminds me of the freedom and good times I had as a teenager.... Now It's just trying to keep the family house and job in order..

True, "Jane" only reached #14, but that's still nothing to sneeze at, especially considering how its popularity has increased in the ensuing years. As far as "WBTC"...."Jane" is about a MILLION times better than that piece of landfill. Always hated that song. I always felt they sold out when they recorded that crap.

"Jane" should have been more successful as well, as it hit only #14.

But then you can't take those charts seriously, because there are a lot of great songs that never charted high but became classics.

For example, "Back in Black" barely cracked the top 40 when first released. Some of these songs were just ahead of their time or something.

Or maybe the Billboard chart system is just a joke.

Starship eventually hit number one with "We Built this City" but "Jane" is about 100 times better.

Actually, it WAS released as a single, but it never charted. For my money, I think it's every bit as good and should've been just as successful as "Jane".

This kicks ass! Should have been a single.
