Jefferson Starship - Rock Music Lyrics

Rock 'n' roll is good time music
Rock 'n' roll is good time music

Mama said be a doctor son
But a voice said follow the music
Papa said be a lawyer boy
But a voice said follow the mu'
'Cause you know you're not doin' for the money
You're doin' it just for the thrills
You don't do it for money, boy
So thank the Lord rock keeps payin' the bills

Rock 'n' roll is good time music
[repeat twice]

You may think that life ain't no laughing matter
And go right on a-talkin' all your intellectual chatter
Well all that jivin', it ain't true
So let's just push on through
Rock 'n' roll to stay alive
Rock 'n' roll will survive

Sneakin' Monica out after the prom
You know I didn't get her back, people
'Till just before dawn
Outside we were creepin'
Inside everyone was sleepin'
Goodness gracious!
That's rock n roll!

Rock 'n' roll is good time music
[repeat three times]

I love destiny ❤️ it was destiny that The Rock God brought all these folks together to explain to us how rock and roll is good time music and that we should listen to it. so I'm still listening September 22, 2019 Sunday morning 4am and life's good most of the time 🤪😍

I was 18 living alone in a one bedroom apartment. Didn't have a lot of money, but I invested in a $2500 home stereo system. I'd been saving from a full time job and a few part time since I was 14. There's nothing quite like a vinyl album and this whole album sounds amazing on vinyl. One of my all time favorites.

Probably one of the best drum intros ever..... Classic song. Grew up listening to this through older brother.... Happy days.

    P.... G....

I agree one of the bests intros. I cant believe that Bonham never came up with it, although When The Levee Brakes is in the same category.

Best line up of the group IMHO. Mickey Thomas is just an incredible singer. What a vocal range. Loved his voice since I first heard him with Elvin Bishop on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". The whole band seems to have gotten a great big injection of testosterone for this album. None of that atrocious hippy shit of their past and not a sign of the light FM crap they produced in the future when slick returned. Just a great rocking album.

The problem wasn't that Slick returned but that Kantner departed!

    D.... U....

+David Ummel Right on. I always enjoyed this whole album. It just kicks magnificent ass!

    D.... U....

    +David Ummel AMEN!

    D.... U....

+David Ummel saw Elvin in Novato circa 93 STREETVFAIR AND REAL COOL

    D.... U....

+David Ummel Saw Mickey with Elvin back in 78 and then with Starship many times SF was great!

    D.... U....

Also their next album 'Modern Times' was a great follow-up record to Freedom at Point Zero!

  43. D.... H....

Memories of growing up in the bay area when it was still good here. Nice....

Winds of Change was a great album with Grace though.

  45. M.... ....

I am 41 years old and I used to hear this on the radio as a child I REMEMBER SO WELL BUT DIDNT KNOW WHO DID IT!!!

    M.... ....

MichaelHansenFUN ..Me to..always loved it and sang it in my head..But didnt know who did it til the mid 90s...lol..im 46..😎👍

  46. D.... G....

Would have been stupendous if Grace was on this album... might have been as big as  the Fleetwood Mac or Styx  albums who were far overrated back then.

    D.... G....

you have to read the history book "Got a Revolution!: The Turbulent Flight of Jefferson Airplane"

  47. A.... C....

Now pay close attention, Nickelback, Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, etc, because THIS is how it's done!

    A.... C....

+David Atwell If you believe in "Miracles" so would I

    A.... C....

+Andrew Chase Oh my god, yes!!!!!! People have no taste in music now. I was totally born in the wrong decade!

    A.... C....

Hey Andrew, you got it man. They can learn from this, well put Bro....

    A.... C....

a majorly overlooked effort by the Jefferson Starship, overshadowed by the glut of great music that was being released in those days, and the disco craze.  The number of hits on the viewing list is a testament to that.

    A.... C....

@ShacPac Sports Cards Just look at it this way, now you know what R&R trully is!!

  48. A.... C....

Forgot all about this song. Haven't heard it in 30 years. THANKS!!!!

  49. E.... T....

Awesome song brings back memories of excellent fun with no worries

    E.... T....

    Good choice ed

  50. D.... D....

Some old, but good, stuff from my dad's day! Damn, born too late.

  51. J.... H....

yeah, while everybody else was looking for the "slow jams" I was banging my head to this tune! Poppy, yah, but who cares! Its FUN! You know, sometimes you just gotta celebrate!

  52. D.... ....

    LISTEN TO IT!!!!!

  53. G.... C....

An all time favorite. And it is the truth...Rock n Roll is good time music!

    G.... C....

according to Danny and the Juniors, Rock and Roll is here to stay!  I always believed that, but lately, I am not so sure.

  54. T.... N....

Mickey Thomas...unheralded mega rock vocalist ever..

  55. M.... ....

This it YOUR SERMON for today, kids! AMEN!!!!!

    M.... ....

    Tomorrow- BANG A GONG

    M.... ....

Praise the Lord! & pass the ammunition of Rock!!!

    M.... ....

MetallicBill Testify! With you all the way

    M.... ....

    they wont get it man

  56. S.... ....

This groovy beat drove me nuts as a teenage drummer...I couldn't get it out of my head!

  57. r.... m....

Captures the essence of what makes Rock n' Roll great...peeps seem to be forgetting, what with other less cool genres (won't name names) preempting it & hogging the spotlight.

  58. M.... p....

One of the most underrated bands of their time.
    The Starship kick as.

    M.... p....

The Jefferson Starship.  Starship produced songs like "We Built this City" , which is the antithesis of this.

  59. R.... M....

I did not finish the video...

  60. R.... M....

As a veteran of over 60 Grateful Dead concerts and other area bands of substance including the original Airplane, yes, this is crap!

    R.... M....

This is great straight up rock not hippy shit like grateful dead

  61. T.... ....

I consider this one; no more or less "crappy" than The Who's "Long Live Rock". And, better than "We Built This City".

  62. 4.... ....

Compared to who?? He has one of the greatest octive ranges of any singer!!

  63. 4.... ....

    says you.....millions disagree.

  64. 4.... ....

Mickey Thomas has one of the GREATEST voices in Rock and Roll you Idiot!

  65. p.... ....

Great vid/tune. I played this vid at about 3AM at a party we had the other night. The place went nuts. Old school rock and roll brings back good memories and creates new ones.

  66. P.... B....

Remember: Rock and roll IS good time music!!!

  67. P.... B....

Whatever the criticism this is my favorite Jefferson Starship album...a guilty pleasure but I love every single song!

  68. R.... M....

    This defines the term "crap"...

    R.... M....

No Rich That Would Be Your Ugly Fukkin Face !!!

    a

  69. J.... L....

They were beginning to lose focus by this time. Couldn't possibly compare the likes of "Red Octopus," & "Spitfire" to this drek. Yes, the song has energy but this NOT the Jefferson Starship. This is some wedding band wannabes who were the Jefferson Starship & are now pale imitations. There was always some tiny sparks of the old JS genius but this would have never launched this band if they were new. No Grace Slick -- you have nothing. It was like The Doors -- no Jim Morrison, no Doors.

  70. s.... ....

Great song it reminds me of the freedom and good times I had as a teenager.... Now It's just trying to keep the family house and job in order..

  71. P.... R....

    Mickey Thomas sucks !

  72. M.... ....

True, "Jane" only reached #14, but that's still nothing to sneeze at, especially considering how its popularity has increased in the ensuing years. As far as "WBTC"...."Jane" is about a MILLION times better than that piece of landfill. Always hated that song. I always felt they sold out when they recorded that crap.

  73. a.... d....

"Jane" should have been more successful as well, as it hit only #14.

But then you can't take those charts seriously, because there are a lot of great songs that never charted high but became classics.

For example, "Back in Black" barely cracked the top 40 when first released. Some of these songs were just ahead of their time or something.

Or maybe the Billboard chart system is just a joke.

Starship eventually hit number one with "We Built this City" but "Jane" is about 100 times better.

  74. M.... ....

Actually, it WAS released as a single, but it never charted. For my money, I think it's every bit as good and should've been just as successful as "Jane".

  75. a.... d....

This kicks ass! Should have been a single.

  76. J.... B....

    Great old rock tune.

  77. p.... ....

    great sound

  78. D.... B....

very comparable to April Wine. Awesome album!! Love the late 70's

  79. p.... ....

    Rock On! SF Grandpa style!

  80. g.... ....

Read straight from the official Party rules handbook! lol. Long live the children of the 60's-70's! (I'm assuming you're also a card-carrying member?)These "evolved, Generation-whatever-the-fuck, Every celebrity has a fucking acronym, I can't even write in cursive or fill out a goddam check, 'New-School,' Peach-fuzz" punks Label us "Old-School." Try "ONLY-SCHOOL!" Without our chops they wouldn't have a pot to piss in. Rookies! They all need a dutchrub-noogie combo and sent to bed without dinner!

  81. D.... ....

LISTEN TO IT!!!! was 10 when this came out and I still rock it today!

  82. g.... ....

Yup-per! And most likely the green was cleaned on the album cover!! lol
