Jefferson Airplane - Won't You Try / Saturday Afternoon Lyrics
Won't you try
won't you try
won't you try
find a way to need someone
find a way to see
won't you try
won't you try
won't you try
with love before we're gone
saturday afternoon
saturday afternoon
when your head is feeling fine
you can ride inside our car
I will give you caps of blue and silver sunlight for your hair
won't you try
won't you try
I do care that you do see
Is it time to leave, my lady
yes it is I know
round about and everywhere sunshine instead of snow
times can't change that what I say is true

Jefferson Airplane Won't You Try / Saturday Afternoon Comments
How good is this? 😍
Haha! Marty is stoned out of his mind.
one of their best songs and performances
The high water mark
Beautiful song. You can't see it too well here, but at the end when they pause Marty and Grace they truly are "caught in time"....got to admit it's a bittersweet feeling, sadness for what has gone, but still significant happiness
Πολλες και ομορφες στιγμες με τους Jefferson..
One of the best songs from Woodstock - its rhythms and dynamics really sound amazing in the open acoustic of the big bowl. The power of both rhythm and lead guitars, Grace and Marty really getting into it ... I think that, along with the Who and Jimmy, this is the iconic performance not just of the festival, but of a generation.
grace - the voice that launched a million trips
Jesus...this is absolutely beautiful. I know it sounds cliche, but for those of us not born during this time (me 1990) there is such a longing, and sense of loss for not being able to experience 1960s Haight Ashbury life. I am sure it is romanticized a little too much, but damn!
The side of Woodstock 2 that this, "Eskimo Blue Day" & The Butterfield Blues Band's "Everything's gonna Be Alright" was a favorite of mine in the old days of vinyl for so many years. That record had that great side of Hendrix too! Good news, at the moment, that stuff is on YouTube! Is it possible that the Hendrix estate will loosen its death grip on Jimi's music? One can hope.
What a criminal overlook !!!! This should have been an incredible nugget in the original Woodstock release
Que viva la Música de antes RIP Marty Balin
Pure psychedelic rock
when the brake starts at the 2:30 the BEST part is 2:50, when the bass do IT. i always get chils. that part brake me when i first time was hear it. and it is still on.
Paul like Roger Federer
RIP Marty Balin
Beautiful ! Hermosa !
RIP Marty Balin
I watch this video once again after many views. I cry because we lost Spencer Dryden, Paul Kantner, and Marty Balin. My favorite band besides The Beatles and The Stones. I was 17 in 1969, and now I'm 67. I wouldn't trade my life for any young person today because today's music sucks balls. I just hope I get to meet all these dead rock stars in rock heaven.
Magnificent!! Nothing today touches this stuff. 💙
They dont have bands like this now. Music cant compare to this Era.
I was 18 in 1989.. I had a Honda riva 125 motor scooter.. 2 joints & 15 bucks in my pocket, I rode down the parkway from Montvale, to the garden state arts center, in Holmdel New Jersey. ended up meeting these 2 dudes in their fortys. Lomg story short, they gave me an extra ticket that they had, and i smoked my pot with them.. that was a cool moment i won't forget.
At the beginning of the song Marty looks like he's strung out on heroin... But I guess they were all tired from waiting up all night before their set.
They were probably only trippin' balls on acid, quaaludes and shit like that, pretty much like everybody else.
Grace Slick was one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
What is better than Marty, Grace, and Paul singing together asynchronously? Nothing!
I love airplane😍Grace slick divaaaaa😍
Ácido, incienso y globos amarillos en la luna...🎵🎵🎵 cool
great interFuckingMission. ♥
Tripping balls and they nailed it ...
WPLR New Haven used to play this song in the 70's ..
In some strange way .. the Jefferson Airplane were as dynamic as the Rolling Stones .. imo
YouTube ought to stick this onto everybody's feed. Right now. Or perhaps next Saturday. Around afternoon time.
people that were at woodstock as children under 5, were they really there?.. what do you remember being a toddler at woodstock? i was born in a disaster area! i remember it like yesterday. personally i´ve little to no memory of most of my youth before 10... was i even there?.. i´ve to take other peoples word on that s#¤%... sure, whatever you say. i´m sure we´d a blast :)... great band and documentary :).
One of their very best tunes, sounds better live than the studio recording!!!!
Rest easy, Marty.
This is when they were all peaking on their trips, its incredible! It’s just amazing to watch such creative talented people so utterly involved in their craft, they hold the secret of the universe in their music man...
acid incense, and balloons
coming up on 50 years ago -- that's totally scary -- R.I.P Marty
Espectacular
I was a college Sr.and remember this like it was yesterday ! Grace was a stunning and natural beauty !..wow.!..what great memories..db
Absolutely without a doubt, one of my favourite pieces of footage.
I feel like I gotta watch this every day

RIP Marty
RIP MARTY 💔😣
The music of the Airplane will always captivate, and always be the fuel to the fires of progress still burning bright all these years later. This clip of the Airplane at Woodstock remains one of my favorites, with Marty right at the core of it all. Rest easy, brother...
RIP Balin.
REST IN POWER MARTY 🕊
rip Marty Balin <3
RIP Marty Balin
R.I.P Marty Balin, it's gonna be a SAD Saturday afternoon today....
Jefferson Airplane lives forever!!!
#RIP Marty Balin....great vocals on this track. Love the Airplane.
just heard the really sad news about the passing of Marty Balin..He was a brilliant pairing with Grace Slick, It's No Secret, Saturday Afternoon,Today, Wont You Try..perfect examples of the beautiful vocal cohesion they shared. I was so very, very fortunate to interview Grace Slick a few years ago. I commended her performance of this song, despite what Grace said about they shouldn't have gone on because in her words, they were tired, stoned, etc etc from being up all night....I begged to differ with her and told her that this cut from Woodstock, she looked radiant and the band really nailed it. The passing of time is the best judge and this song remains a psychedelic gem, brilliantly performed at one of rock's most significant moments. Grace also told me about how Marty didn't take too kindly to the Hells Angels at Altamont, describing Marty as being just like her as in being "stubborn" hehe..I really do feel for her today and for the remaining members of Jefferson Airplane and their families and friends. Also the fans...we loved you Marty Balin..and will continue to love your music until we to, join you..Rest in Peace Marty Balin....
This was the first video I turned to when I heard that Marty Balin had died. R.I.P.
RIP MARTY enjoy your trip!
*RIP Marty Balin*
RIP Marty. ❤️
O yeah its me again
I would love to show this to Hesse or Bukowski classic music lovers a ask ?
What you guys have to say about THIS ?
Grace's eyes look as glazed as a donut here. and Marty Balin looks like he's on another planet. How this group performed this song is amazing.
Grace still looks as beautiful as any woman could. She had amazing talent .But this group was ahead of its time truly. Jorma was outstanding. Jack and his bass incredible. Grace said she first listened for the bass of Jack.
somebody out there was fucking while this was going down....nice!
I just cannot help but feel good after watching and hearing this version of this song. It is just that awesome!!
woodstock amplification was just fucking screaming..... that guitar at the beginning is really making that amp exploding
One of my favorite live Airplane performances, so tightly knit. And love Jack's powerful, driving bass --
If in heaven have music surely is Jefferso Airplane.
First heard this on vinyl when I was a high-school sophomore 44 years ago.
The studio version is beautiful. But this live performance is much more exciting --
It's so cool to see more of their set from Woodstock & now we can enjoy the full set they released on CD. I saw them at Atlantic City Pop Fest just two weeks before Woodstock.
Fuckin A
This is real music...not the shit we have nowadays.Back in the 70's I"ve smoked a lotta of grass & listened to this kind of stuff.I was happy then & didn't even know I was.long live to R&R
Jack Casady bass sounds great, voted #8 in 10 all time best rock bassist https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/11/the-10-best-rock-bassists-of-all-time.html
A great American rock band in a kick-butt live performance.
Interfuckingmission
Oh yeah, just melt into it baby... Sunday morning at Woodstock
Watt about inclusion Won't you try
I've tried Saturday afternoon, it was good!
THANK YOU! I was there! :-)
Sunday morning
4:31 only peace & music??
Jefferson Airplane Luvs You.....💜✈💙✈💛✈💜
MAGNIIFCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I've heard various members of JA state that they thought they weren't at their best during their Woodstock performance. Honestly, I don't how they came to that conclusion---IMHO they were AWESOME!! The entire set is outstanding, and this might be the shining star out of all the songs they played that memorable day. Listen to those soaring, trippy harmonies by Grace, Marty, and Paul...Jack Casady's pulsating bass lines, Jorma Kaukonen with that powerful, fuzzy, acid-soaked sound on lead guitar, Spencer Dryden with the driving beat on the drums...BEAUTIFUL!!
Even more than the Dead...I thought the Airplane was THE psychedelic band of that time...and this is a glorious testament to how great they were!!
Experimental music, played while on experimental drugs, in front of an experimental audience....what's not to like?
White people acting black, that was revolutionary and not current kids with all their PC bullshit and empty morals
Jack Cassidy to me dressed the part and was and still is the ultimate hippie. Cool smooth and going where the music takes him along with the rest of the Airplane. Spreading their beautiful music... love....and possibly some free magical vacations to some lucky recipiants. Love and other things didnt need a cash value cause we shared with our brothers & sisters and they did the same with others.
Honesty, sincereaty, and peacefulness flowed gracefully from our hearts naturally mixed with a joint or two netted us the priceless gift of unconditional love for all. A large portion of todays people don't even understand what im talking about.
Slow down...
Be cool....
Not greedy or selfish..
Give and be completely honest..
Choose your spouse wisely..
Learn about being monogamous.
And you too could have a wonderful journey
Another atmosphere then,,, Peace & Love.....Música do caralho.
Imagine waking up that morning hearing this song.....
Performing at 6 in the morning after being up all night, and high on who knows how many drugs.. They still out perform 99.9% of the bands today..... One of the Greatest bands in Rock...
Suddenly Goosebumps hit you, the lyrics start rolling and you are gone!
really amazing footage.
This performance is the essence of what Woodstock was all about.
One of my all time favorite Woodstock performances. Along with The Who, Sly Stone, and Santana.
What a Gorgeous picture this Song Paints with words . Thank You JA .
read somewhere Airplane was supposed to play late nght/early morning but rain and scheduling messed timing up. If this is true universe worked that out perfectly for them to play early morning to see exactly what they were playing too. the site of that front Grace perspective is unreal. i'd be nervous as hell to be in front of all of those ppl. hungry ppl, stoned ppl, ppl freaking out, a bunch of runaway kids migrating in front of that stage searching for an answer. A city of ppl. Airplane sounded amazing. They were all in sync together. I've heard different live versions of this song but this one is my favorite. They all rode the hell out of this song. Ja ck up there looking like he's freaking himself out with each note he hits. Marty smile at Grace like, damn this may be our last good run...bless the ppl in attendance. My generation is todays music. music has to evolve I know, but damn this era seemed as raw, organic, and pure as anything can get. Seemed like a hell of a time to be young, scared, happy, and alive....
How can I try with what my family did to me last October of 2016? What about that mean mom called the cops on me for David? OMG!!!! Why didn't my family just KILL ME?!!!! It would of been alot nicer!!!! 😡😡😡😡They are SO EVIL!!!!😡😡😡😡
In the Lancaster library a mean mom said I had a warrent & called the cops on me?!!!!😡😡😡😡On the 12th of December!!!!😟😩😫😖😨😰😱
Every time I see Grace, my trousers tighten!
i still wish they will invent a time machine in the next 50-years or so
