Jefferson Airplane - Thunk Lyrics

Sittin' around thinkin'
thinkin' and a thinkin'
and it ain't doin' me no good

well I thunk and I thunk
couldn't think of anything better
I tried and I tried
tryin' ain't doin' me no good
I write choo everyday, what could be
my very last letter
come what may I say

thinkin' ain't doin' me no good
thinkin' ain't doin' me no good people
thinkin' ain't doin' me no good, no good

I want to know, if everything that's sung
will remain
within the structure of a person
whose mind I wish to claim
please don't say that wantin' you
won't do me no good
please oh please don't say
wantin' you won't
wantin' you won't do me no good
wantin' you won't do me no good woman
wantin' you won't do me no good, no good

well I thunk thunk thunk thunk
a lot about it
realized my thunk is nuthin'
but a lot of funk
bunk down on in my place
only a dream (hum)
only a dream (hum)
only a dream (hum)

thinkin' ain't doin' me no good no
thinkin' ain't doin' me no good no people
thinkin' ain't doin' me no good no good

bark is great but this one sucks unfortunately

  3. C.... V....

Holy fuck, In Our Prime by The Black Keys have an identical intro, wow

  4. T.... R....

I respect Grace----as she said many moons ago I will not perform after 40-----tell that to Paul Mc Cartney, Stevie Nicks & all the ole folks that don't know when to quit!

    T.... R....

It's up to the performer. I was lucky enough to see grace many years ago... probably the last time before she retired. I can respect that decision. I think some of the old farts are still good but there are some that should stop or maybe take a different approach.

  5. C.... S....

The opening La La La's remind me of Kermit The Frog.

  6. r.... 6....

the group wasn't the same without marty and spencer.

Was just crying about Kantner. Woke up to Bowie this morning a song from his "death bed" album, In three weeks we've lost Bowie, Frye and now Kantner. Seems like my whole history is dying. This loss has added to the growing list of so many of my musical hero's, inspirations, memories. . Music saved me as a kid and as i grew up it was my life. I lost my best friend in 2013 to cancer - he and I spoke in lyrics. As I was reading about those days the crazy late 60's etc, , I was reminiscing about how much I love Surrelistic Pillow and how so much of it reminded me of the coming of age - Gracie, Janis, Joni, as I was reading I hit upon Hot Tuna and shrieked with Joy (scared the shit out of my dog, Snoop Doggy Dogg) ! I *so* remember when this album came out , the paper bag album- cover and man, this freaking song. I sang it all the time and only the coolest of friends 'got' it (hash) . I haven't heard this song since the 70's ,I gander. It's funny, listening to the end it totally reminds me of Zappa's Freak Out or Absolutely Free, - Mother's material. I'll be 62 in March and have not sold a single piece of vinyl ever. Have lost a ton of it/them (some heavy partying, share the wealth etc) ... but still have all my guitars flutes etc. from the beginning, 1962

Haven't heard this song for EONS. Always loved the Bark Album. So long, and good night, Paul Kantnor. He died today, Jan 28, 2016. Listening to some of my very favorite Airplane songs, with love, memories, and my own self healing. We shall miss and cherish your genius.

+don riley My turntable is all undone and behind a bunch of AV equipment and TV's and bookcases and albums & tho I tried once when the DRV and other AV equipment was all set up (by an accomplished sound tech customer friend ) I had to un set it all up do to flooding and now I can't get all the wires reconnected (behind all the equipment and I can no longer move all the furniture. But man, I"m so sick of not having access to my 3000 albums from 1960-to ....whenever.... you've inspired me to say "fk the 9 herniated disks, I'm moving the damn furniture".

An underrated album. everyone was still looking for white rabbit psychedelic music from them+
Certainly not that I have a problem with white rabbit. just when the younger Generations discover them, they think just that~
That they discovered something we haven't been listening to for 40 plus years+++

  11. M.... ....

    Is Grace on piano?

    M.... ....

+Gonzalo Rosas probably, google it ;-).

  12. t.... ....

He was a good drummer and good harmony singer. What he was not was a good songwriter.

  13. t.... ....

    No, it's on "Bark".

  14. A.... G....

I'm willing to bet ALL the vocals are JOEY...

  15. j.... ....

Because when people back then said, "Do your own thing," they really meant it.

  16. L.... F....

you miss me my new friend ; so much .... Repose en paix .

  17. H.... ....

    R.I.P. Joey Covington...

  18. E.... D....

Pretty Sure Rock and Roll Island is on Long John Silver

  19. M.... S....

This song was one of the low-points of Bark. Couldn't even enjoy it high. Who the hell picked Joey Covington for their new drummer?

    M.... S....

7 years and no-one has agreed with you.
This must be because your opinion on this is fucking rubbish- just saying.

  20. c.... ....

    a punk song yea

    c.... ....

Sorta yeah, one of the only comments worth a feck on this vidya

  21. J.... R....

@Smittee Awwww! you got me with this, how sweet! I love that you shared this, a very unusual song and not just anybody sings it to their babies... I did so I really get it :D *sniff*

  22. P.... R....

I see all these great songs from Bark and no Rock N Roll Island ? What's up with that ?

  23. t.... ....

I first heard this album sometime around 1978 or 9...and ever since then, every once in awhile....I find my self singing this silly song over and over.........la la la la lalalala..

  24. b.... v....

I was 16 in Aug of 1971, and I memorized this whole BARK album---especially this GEM --- THUNK"

  25. g.... ....

A friend made me cassette years ago with this song. Love it. Also had Zappa(Wino Man) Dylan(I Shall Be Free)Guthrie(Ruben Clamso)Coe(Dakota Dancin Bear) Cool stuff. Memories.

*is crying right now* I have been looking for this song. I'm so glad someone had posted it now. My father, use to sing this song, almost every single chance he got. He just died June 30th, and just hearing it really helps. We have it on quadraphonic, but we don't know where the player is, and if it even works anymore. So, thanks for posting Jefferson Airplane songs. I really appreciate it.

  27. j.... ....

i don't know... i don't think grace or anybody else is on this track (including the piano intro) whenever you read about the joey period of the airplane, there's never much said about his singing. he had a very nice voice in fact, but you wonder if he thought he was gonna be the next marty, while the others were just looking for someone to replace spencer. maybe that's why he didn't last long with them.

  28. T.... D....

I can hear Grace in there, but Covington's vocals do totally dominate. He left the Airplane to join Hot Tuna but got bounced by Jorma after a few albums over a musical argument. Last I heard he still plays shows around the Bay Area with bands of ever changing names and lineups, but the encore is always "Thunk" and "Pretty As You Feel."

  29. l.... ....

A very interesting JA song, in my opinion, the most interesting one. :) I think Marty Balin was the greatest song of the band but in this song everyone can hear that their vocals are as good as Marty's. Thunk, thunk, thunk..
