Jefferson Airplane - Pretty As You Feel Lyrics

You're only pretty as you feel
only pretty as you feel inside
you're only pretty as you feel
just as pretty as you feel inside

when you wake up in the morning
rub some sleep from your eye
look inside your mirror
comb your hair

don't give vanity a second chance
no no no
beauty's only skin deep
it goes just so far 'cause
you're only pretty as you feel
you're only pretty as you feel inside
just as pretty as you feel

now you're feelin pretty
now you're feelin good
now you're ready to face the world girl
now you're feelin good
go out there 'n' knock 'em silly girl
go out there 'n' show 'em how ta thrill
'cause you're only pretty as you feel
only pretty as you feel
you're only pretty as you feel
just as pretty as you feel inside
feelin' so pretty, feelin' so pretty
pretty mama.

is make up the right thing for a young woman?? the natural beauty of the skin is enough and its how you feel inside that counts. bob

  4. A.... A....

    Carlos Santana on guitar.

  5. H.... D....

I love the calm, soft rock sound in this song! It makes me think of a dressing table in a house with a 1970s aesthetic on the interior, in the woods, with a view of a rainy, overcast day outside.

  6. B.... H....

Carlos Santana - guest guitar + Michael Shrieve - guest drums - both play with the band on this track.

  7. d.... g....

The Airplane, also, was one of the few of the era, to make major money, and was so big, that they were actually able to fire Bill Graham, as their manager, because Slick " WAS San Francisco". They also were able to do the same with the nasty Katz, who notoriously ruined careers of others, such as Moby Grape. The Airplane's success was due to Balin's business skills; the immense talent of each member, and of course, the iconic presence of Slick. They also hold the distinction of being the only act to perform at all three major festivals- Monterey, Woodstock, and Altamont.

    S.... W....

@Bill Woo He was an ass from what i have read....but no one beats stan polley for sheer ruthlessness (see Badfinger)

    S.... W....

@matt thecat Are you sure? Worse than shithead Terry Knight (Grand Funk)??

    S.... W....

@Bill Woo well yeah (red faced, looking down at the floor)...there is that ass.Had forgotten him obviously.

    S.... W....

Al Schmidt, their producer in the Volunteer era, was key to some of their greatest recordings.

    S.... W....

@Bill Woo Hi. I never thought about it. You are right. I have seen some videos of him, behind the scenes in business transactions, and I can only say that I wouldn't do business with him, but yes, I think of the concerts he did in the 70s. I was there

  27. R.... m....

    ultra cool.

  28. r.... s....

    HOW YOU THINK

  29. R.... m....

one out of the box for JA. 5stars.

  31. J.... M....

    M.... B....

Like a dog without a bone an actor all alone

    M.... B....

look's a bit like planet caravan in the feeling

  35. B.... D....

I hear some jorma and jack in there. love it.

  36. S.... M....

    Drummer Joey Covington on vocals.

    S.... M....

    He sounds like a woman.

  37. C.... W....

I love this song! I'm a fucking model!

    C.... W....

    Oh, so you do porn?

  38. B.... J....

Hot Tuna was better than any Starship albums

    B.... J....

In My Not Very Humble Opinion.

    B.... J....

C'mon Mark.. You can't be serious.. Albums such as "Blows Against The Empire" stand up as much today as when it was written.. The truly great Bands of this era such as Captain Beefheart, Mothers Of Invention, VU, Jefferson etc all had a 5 Year Period when they were prolific and songwriters and musicians and spoke for our generation..

    B.... J....

    1. This isn't Starship. 2. Apples and oranges. 3. Wrong.

    B.... J....

The only problem I have with this reply is Frank's legacy and relevance went far beyond five years.

    B.... J....

Blows Against the Empire had some strong material.

  39. B.... J....

Jorma was the backbone of that band. good singer good songwriter. when he left and took Cassidy with him that was it for the airplane. Jefferson Starship went top 40. outside of the ride the Tiger album they were just another band

    B.... J....

    Spitfire is an excellent album

    B.... J....

You need to listen to Blows Against the Empire. The Airplanes success was the vocals. A male and female lead singers was and is a very powerful thing. Don't get me wrong I love the Hot Tuna stuff to death but it never achieved popular success(thank God). Starship was started as a Paul Kantner's band without Balin. That was the big difference.

  40. i.... w....

    amazing song. x

  41. J.... F....

thank you Paul u are missed

  42. b.... ....

they had it. Grace Slick, Marty Balin, Paul Kantner. Most bands may luck out and have one artist/singer who is competent. JA had THREE monumental singers/artists...

    b.... ....

jorma and jack are still playing. just sent my son to see them at the filmore west. electric set. catch them this summer ith trucks band.

    b.... ....

Saw Marty Balin with Starship in Hawaii. He was spectacular! One of the greatest voices in popular music history.

    b.... ....

Jorma Kaukonen wasn't too bad as a singer/songwriter, either.

    b.... ....

Yep! Wish I'd heard the original lineup. Supergroup.

  43. Q.... C....

Gazed up and looked across the internet , Saw Her & My Heart Melted :) QC

  54. f.... ....

    still true! xooxox

  55. l.... ....

wow...haven't heard this is so long...

  56. G.... K....

I listen to this every morning under the shower *_*

    G.... K....

+sunshinenblues Awesome! Nice to hear your testimony. Her autobiography is amazing. I only saw the Airplane once in 72 at the Hollywood Bowl...but, like you, I owned a suede fringe jacket, the same that Neil Young wore about the same time! Us flower children in our late sixties now, but memories of miles of smiles, indeed. Grace has always had so much dignity, and honesty...and a sweetheart. True to her word, she chose not to keep performing on stage at a certain age, devoting herself to art and painting. Remember Mick Jagger once said, he could not see himself singing Satisfaction after age 35? Or The Who, My Generation? Hope I die before I get old? Not knocking them; still love them. But Grace has a dignity I associate with that of George Harrison. Thank you for sharing your personal memory. You're only pretty as you feel...Indeed! Miles of smiles...

    G.... K....

I would have LOVED to have met Grace Slick!

    G.... K....

    RIP Marty Balin

    G.... K....

    @Roy Dufton RIP😔

    r.... ....

@***** Interesting, I never saw that one.

    r.... ....

    @thebaddog410
the hard album copy cover had the fish but it was originaly wraped in the ap paper bag. i think they quit distributing the version with the ap bag or sack but if you had the version with the ap bag and unreapped it, the yes, there was the fish.....

    r.... ....

+rutabagasteu What was the one album that folded up into a stash box with pics of ultra premium flower top buds?

    r.... ....

    +oneinamillonion man Long John Silver

    r.... ....

Still have it. Weird thing is, even after playing it hundreds and hundreds of times, both the record and the brown paper wrapper are still in very good shape, unlike a lot of others in my hard-used collection.

    M.... P....

    Really?

    M.... P....

    that's right!

    M.... P....

    Damn! DAMN! OMFG!

    M.... P....

I never knew that! I'm as blown away learning this as when I learned Eric Clapton played lead guitar on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

  68. R.... S....

I heard the song originally came out of a jam with Carlos Santana but I think Jorma is the guitar on the recorded version. I don't remember Santana being credited on the album...but that was a long long time ago.

    R.... S....

No, Carlos Santana was not credited on the album, so it must have been Jorma Kaukonen playing. And even if C.S, really were the one to play the guitar, the rumour would have spread like wildfire.

  69. B.... L....

can you believe rolling stone panned this album when it first came out? called this song 'insipid'... ha!

    B.... L....

Rolling Stone was never really a credible music mag. They put Kim Kardashian on the cover.

    B.... L....

    LOL, garagedancer!

    B.... L....

    m.... f....

    @mike fury Aye sir

  73. M.... B....

I didn't know Joey passed on in July of these year. He was a great drummer and a good writer.

    M.... B....

+Max Brand I knew he wrote this, but I didn't know he sang the lead. I just assumed it was Grace - I must be totally stone deaf. But who sang the bass vocals?

    M.... B....

+rca88 Covington died in a automobile accident and this is one guy I wish I like to sit in with. & the bass vocals was Jorma Kaukonen.

  74. s.... ....

Im not wrong xeroxlover... I've worked for Santana and know it to be true. How? He confirmed it in an interview he did for me with Uncut Magazine in the UK. I'll send you the cutting if you wish - give me an e mail address. But you can also find this out for yourself on the net

  75. s.... ....

And the great Carlos Santana is on this

  87. m.... f....

It's an August summer evening and a refreshing breeze is blowing through your bedroom window. You pick up the black disc and center the hole on the hard stainless steel spindle. You lower the hard diamond needle on on the disc. You pick up your bowl that is loaded with that sweetest of herb. A tiny spark takes you to places you have never been. Peace be with you always.

  88. M.... B....

This was originally called "Shitty As You Feel",according to Joey Covington, its writer! The Manager of JA suggested He'd change it,and they'd would have a hit! He did,and they did, minor, and their last charted hit.

  89. c.... d....

To me it seems to be the affirmation when you just can't seem to detach yourself from you upbringing. Works for me and mine.

  90. i.... ....

    Isn't that what I said?

  91. R.... ....

Credits have Carlos and Michael on the album. Jerry did not play on 'Bark'

  92. Q.... ....
