Jefferson Airplane - Law Man Lyrics
Law man--I'm afraid you just walked in here at the wrong time
my old man's gun has never been fired
but there's a first time & this could be
this could be the first time
you know you look to be a lot younger than me and
I'd hate to shoot a baby
you've got a long way to go before you're old & slow
and it could be
it could be a good time if you change your mind
well I'm tired and sweet from making love
and it's just too late
you'll have to wait
bring your business around here in the morning
& you've heard mine
& I'm just too tired to take a side
bring your business around here in the morning
Don't you want to be easy look there
let some of the things you see go on by or
you can burn them into your brain go on home
Don't you see the children, they're just like you
they want everything to be fine but they let it slide
and the laughing lets you know that smiling breaks the rules
Law breaker you know it could be me
& if you had your way we'd all be down
under the face of a clock that's just too old to be wound
& you can see now the old hands won't move around
one way or the other,
fool card brother this could be,
this could be, the first time.

I've loved this song since I unwrapped the frozen fish packaging.
Wow 😳 right grace
FUCKING GRACE AT HER BEST.
I've been fascinated by this band ever since my older brother introduced me to them in 1978. Yeah, I was a born too late, but I am still hooked on them.
Crazy Miranda ran off into the sunset with The Lawman.

It could be a good time, my favorite band, love us a lot of her Majestic self Grace. Thank you all, enriched my life since Ed Sullivan! I have to ask,was it ThcV (Thai weed), that boosted your prophetic skills? Whoa, did y'all ever see possible, the protests of the 1960's and 1970's... Would apply again? This soon? Poignant then, accurate now, intense always, hats off to y'all... You were ever so right, and have remains correct. So o it goes with. Brilliant artists, masterful musicians, poetry of lyrics set to a perfect rhythm. ..I totally enjoyed then, and yet today all points between. I love every song..even Titanic! Universal Copernican Mumbles..now there are lyrics. They can't all be winners. Rock On, thanks
is it me or is this song really extraordinary?
It's not just you....I love this song.
Jack's bass playing is amazing on this tune.
His bass playing is amazing on pretty much anything he plays on.
I Am all out of excuses?.When I was nineteen and worked in the old folks home???..I ain't Got a GD word to say about that??

Whenever I hear this song, I always picture CRAZY MIRANDA singing it to the LAW MAN, & that they both ride off into the sunset together.
paul rip
The beginning of the end.
Grace's anarchic personality and attitude helped pull me through high school in authoritarian Florida in '72, '73, she has always been a natural antidepressant, picking me up when I've been kicked to the curb by the Empire.
One way or another
Fool card brother
I remember my first exposure to this album. I was born in the early 1970's, blah blah...had a job after high school and an old Vietnam Vet I worked with let me borrow this album, which was on vinyl. His name was Paul. I haven't heard this album since I gave it back to him...thanks for posting this incredible album and most of all...thank you Paul.
Is it just a coincidence that all the great 60's songs are starting to become relevant again?
it is amazing, little richard on the piano in this song
BARK Love this album and Law Man Song, I bought this album the same year I bought Stairway to Heaven of Led Zeppelin Fourth Album ( Stairway to Heaven)
Great song and bassline.
Grace warned us in 72"

Thank you very much for posting the lyrics.
album in a grocery sack
Jorma split, good luck (saw him solo , ,ho hum
very underrated song, personal favourite of mine.
Best song on the album. It tells a lot of the 60's counter-culture.
Patrick Bateman mine too “you look to be a lot younger then me and I’d hate to shoot a baby” speaks out
@yumpladukfoo One thing it tells is that a whole lot of us hippies were armed.
First time I heard Jefferson Airplane was in 1971 Along with Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven album. that was life for me, and I still going on, I'M a Rocker, nothing is better than Rock on Roll( Personal Opinion)
Grace Slicks love affair with the police continues
this album was their movin' landing back to earth
Jefferson Airplane was a prophetic band - this song actually came true for Grace years later.
This song nearly came true in the 90's when Grace pulled a gun on some cops who were beating on her roommate!
yes there has to be a story...great
The cops went there because the guy called 911 claiming 'a woman' was firing a shotgun. Grace Slick was arrested when she came to the door with a loaded shotgun and ordered the police off her property. The guy who called 911 was really drunk and threatening to kill himself. He shouted 'Kill me, kill me' to the cops who then arrested him and took him to hospital for evaluation. The cops were not 'beating on a roommate'. This was not the first incident concerning Grace, a loaded gun, and the police.
Yeah I luv this song, good storyline. great musical progression, too.
fave JA song.... "...one way or the other, fool card brother...."
. . . still amazes me. This could be the first time.
Best Airplane song ever in my opinion. Played it all the time on "Saturday Morning Classix" on WTCS, Fairmont, WV (1984-1987)...
Morgantown Grace fan representin' right here!!
This is my lady. 'You walked in at the wrong time". So get to leaving or my old man's gun will find you. Ha! Yes. They walk the earth. God love 'em.
remember listening to this great music during my university days. should have paid more attention to my studies as I did not graduate. No matter, like Joe Walsh, life has been good to me so far. But I am moving against you government man, because lately up here in Ontario Canada, we are being BSed by 3 levels of government (on taxpayer nickel). Time to pay your dues government man.
Actually I saw her 3 times. Amazing voice.
My type of lady. "Lawman: You look a lot younger than me and I'd hate to shoot a baby." (But I will). That's right Grace. We breathed tear gas together. Loyalty is the sexiest attribute a woman can have.
Sexy as hell.
Grace was the first lady I ever saw drink a beer (In 1971.) Sexy then, sexy now.
RIP Joey Covington. Your kit work is just perfectly what is needed to keep the tension high in this amazing late Airplane tune. Thanks for the music.
That depends... how many heads does he have?
Awesome [live?] vocal ... !!!
I saw Grace twice--thank you for this. Whoever put it on.
And the laughing lets you know that smiling breaks the rules! LOL. Anytime I laugh I got religion!
This southern gentleman loved these people then and now.
You know Grace never sounded better than on this track and she had many great moments. She was one of the few female singers who could scream not sounding like she was screaming. "....under the face of a clock that's too old to be wound." Quite an original she and the Airplane were.
Just listen to the lyrics.....awesome....
Grace Slicks love affair with the cops all in 2 minutes and 48 seconds
My kind of woman!
I have fond memories of this being under the influence of various substances
Charlie Gee it’s an old comment but you sir might just be my new idol!
@mrkimmystic55 Yeah those cops always went after Grace, even when she was sitting under a tree doing nothing!!! Man i hate those cops!!!!
It was a cop and the gun wasn't loaded and Grace went to jail.
@ourladyoftheflowers1 There's a copy of the RTX double CD set on ebay right now, but their version of Law Man isn't on YT.
@meathead891
me too!
porco dio, che bello
Royal Trux, America's best forgotten band, did a great cover of this.
I just realized listening to Grace on this particular song that she and Sinead O"connor have some similar vocal sounds here and there, specially in the chorus.
I've know about it for a long time, but the incident does get brief mention on Grace's Wikipedia entry..
She was reportedly arrested in 1994 for assault with a deadly weapon after pointing an unloaded gun at a police officer (after, according to her, the officer came onto her property without explanation).[20] A remarkably similar situation is described in Grace's song "Law Man", released on the Bark album in 1971.
Yeah, young people these days...
Ha ha, I'm only thirteen!
Law Man has thrown up some good memory's, but the best of the collection is Baron Von Tollbooth, some great people working together and some now sadly missed...
The Baron
Jefferson Airplanes best song ever... and they have some damn fine songs.
I think your lying, why would you comment on this video if he wasn't a law man?
how old are you, is he a law man
What a voice. best female vocalist ever. Ann wilson wishes she could hit those notes.
... and i hate to shoot a baby!
Proof positive Grace had psychic abilities, since this exact scenario came to pass in real life about 15 yrs later.
Used to listen to this back to back years ago. Thank you for posting. Brings back good times and memories.
Love it!!
