Jefferson Airplane - House At Pooneil Corners Lyrics

You & me we keep walkin' around & we see
All the bulsht around us
You try & keep your mind on what's going down
Can't help but see the rhinocerous around us
& you wonder what you can do
& you do what you can
To get bald & hi
& you know I'm still goin' need you around
You say it's healing but nobody's feeling it
Somebody's dealing - somebody's stealing it
You say you don't see & you don't
You say you won't know & you won't let it come
Everything someday will be gone except silence
Earth will be quiet again
Seas from clouds will wash off the ashed of violence
Left as the memory of men
There will be no survivor my friend
Suddenly everyone will look surprised
Stars spinning wheels in the skies
Sun is scrambled in their eyes
While the moon circles like a vulture
Someone stood at a window & cried
'One tear I thought that should stop a war
But someone is killing me'
& that's the last hour to think anymore
Jelly & juice & bubbles - bubbles on the floor
Castles on the cliffs vanish
Cliffs like heaps of rubbish
Seen from the stars hour by hour
As splintered scraps & black powder
From here to heaven is a scar
Dead center - deep as death
All the idiots have left
Epitaph
The cows are almost cooing
Turtle doves are mooing
Which is why a poo is pooing
In the sun
Sun.

You know, I don't think there is a better bassman in the whole world!!!! Jack is so inventive and powerful!!! And still is!!!! This song just wouldn't have been nearly as good without his nuclear bass playing rocking this song out!!!

  10. L.... Q....

Amazing song! Marty Balin was such a stud 💕 people tend to forget that him and Paul started the band. He was very talented and doesn't get enough credit.

  11. m.... ....

This isn't proto-doom metal, this IS doom metal, the best and most authentic above all. Embodying the spirit of the cold war, the Cuban missile crisis, the fear it all comes to a close shortly. This eerie piece of music is one of the most quintessential opuses in metal history.

The line is "to get balled and high", FYI. Common 60's term for getting laid.

  39. m.... ....

So this is where Black Sabbath took the Doom Metal style from...

  40. c.... g....

WHY DON'T WE GO ON AS THREE!!!!

  41. G.... ....

    Metal before metal

    G.... ....

@mysteriousDSF never was and never will be, Black Sabbath and N.I.B are so much heavier, i think you are going deaf

    G.... ....

@Domingos Sávio your thinking is inflexible to a worrying extent. you're young, but you should relax more to maintain your health in longer terms.

    G.... ....

@mysteriousDSF thanks for the advice, but the sabbs made heavy metal

    G.... ....

    @Domingos Sávio no doubt.

    G.... ....

Metal isn't worthy of licking Paul Kantner's nuts.

  42. b.... w....

A perfect album, and no others sound like it, this album is not derivative of anything except possibly of Hindu ragas translated to a bass that almost sounds like a bowed upright bass for its super rich classical symphonic sonority. I know of nothing else that sounds like this, it is beyond "style"

  43. g.... ....

Battle of You and Me at Pooneil House.

  44. p.... l....

That's the last hour to think anymore.

  50. j.... ....

Still kicks like a mule. Still very pertinent too.

    j.... ....

yeah it does, with all this liberal / neocon talk of "war with Russia" insanity. nuclear war, the cover of this album, very prophetic

The music was revolutionary : the message was Revolutionary
How fortunate we were to have them both

    T.... W....

Still is revolutionary. We should be together. In the streets.

    T.... W....

It meant specific things, and those things are still important, even if everybody's forgotten.

  56. h.... h....

omfg jack casady is a fucking master

  57. J.... S....

for some reason, this just reminds me of Fallout 1/New Vegas....Fallout 1 because the intro sounds like something I'd hear entering the LA boneyard which is one of the most dangerous places in the Fallout universe and New Vegas probably because of the whole lonesome road dlc, and the battle of Hoover Dam. both games are epic.

  58. U.... S....

Am i the only one who can hear a bit of War Pigs in this (3 years early)?

  59. A.... ....

    M.... M....

Mr. Mojo My favourite Jefferson Airplane song by a very narrow margin. Practically an assault on the senses and not in a bad way

    M.... M....

Most of the tracks on albums Surrealistic Pillow thru Volunteers "is the best song"! Jefferson Airplane - hands down most underrated rock band EVER.

  64. v.... ....

love this track, came looking on this sad day.
They were genius at this point.

Dear Mom, Please buy me a bass guitar. (1967)

    T.... B....

    Dear Santa...

  66. M.... S....

A long time ago I was fifteen years old listening to this song. We had seen the movies of nuclear blasts and we knew the way to the shelter. There was even a gas mask in the house. All of us had seen Dr. Strangelove. We knew what is a 'ballistic missile' and what is 'thermonuclear'.
This song was a part of our mindscape at that day and age.
Now times are different. Somebody lost the Cold War and they want a replay.
We wanted to know and to say, today people want to hush up and believe.
    Progress.

  67. N.... S....

    RIP Paul :(

    N.... S....

Nathen Surman he is among the stars

    N.... S....

and we are made of the stars ( no kidding its true science) =)

    N.... S....

we are stardust.. we are golden..

    N.... S....

And, now Marty and don’t forget Spencer.

  68. k.... ....

Now I know where Yes got their influence........

    k.... ....

+kelly My buddy is a huge Yes fan, and I really like Yes--I thought maybe it was just me that heard a vague similarity. Yes's bass player Chris Squire was obviously influenced by Paul McCartney, but Jack Casady might have been an influence too.

    k.... ....

I don't know how ANYONE could be influenced by the Beatles as musicians. They were , or rather Lennon and MacCartney, were great song writers, but  these guys, Yes, Cream et al left them dead in the water as far as musicanship was concerned.

    k.... ....

+kelly I dislike the Beatles - their music, their vocals...of course with a vast library, there ARE songs of theirs I do enjoy. But overall, nah. I can't stand Lennon, and thought he was quite a prick (and said to be verbally and physically abusive) to his first lover and first child...

    k.... ....

Lennon was a prick......MacCartney is a bigger one. George aint with and Ringo was joke.....

  69. R.... N....

Electric Factory Philly....Easter eve 1969....meant everything then and now

  70. M.... ....

    Coolest song !

  71. D.... N....

That synth at the beginning is revolutionary to the next 4 generations of rock and metal music.

    D.... N....

Daniel Nadeau you know they weren't the first to do shit like that right

    D.... N....

The LP 'Switched on Bach' (1968) by Walter Carlos is the most influential album in the use of electronic music in pop/rock - it essentially started the ball rolling.

    D.... N....

Finally I know whom to blame.

    D.... N....

    its grace playing organ

    D.... N....

    Electric guitar feedback, son.

  75. R.... D....

we are on the verge of it now...2015 and climbing..lighten

    R.... D....

    And Thanks Marty & Jack

  76. g.... ....

I think the music of Jefferson Airplane and LSD should be kept as far away as possible. The mere thought of the combination makes me nervous. Out of tune portents of DoOm and odd squeaking with queasy and threatening low grumbles.
No wonder the entire generation of young adults in the late 60's went literally nuts. This is just too awful to contemplate. I'm feeling increasingly awful listening to this squirming shitfest of poorly tuned dreck.

    g.... ....

Oh man, YouTube is not hagiography. I dislike them enough to comment.

    g.... ....

+gringopig  sounds like your already gone in the head. listening to psychedelic music and doing psychedelic drugs is one of the most perfect combinations. u just don't have your shit together enough in the head to be able to tolerate it. knowing a few literally insane people my self,  what you said sounds like something they would say. I pity on you man.

    g.... ....

    +bill wesley
Oh, I get it, your only interest in life is sniper games and since you can't shoot anyone for real trolling on you tube is the next best option, well sadistic games are the next generations mind wasting equivalent to LSD only worse. I guess Ravi Shankar also sounds "out of tune" to you because all you've ever heard is automated digital game music.

    g.... ....

+gringopig Ha Ha Figures you don't get it..This is BEAUTIFUL!

    g.... ....

gringopig someone’s a party pooper. I do like their music before the LSD but the creativity of their songs is quite boosted compared to others ✌🏻

  77. s.... ....

    Jack's bass playing is amazing

    s.... ....

Notice the bass is the primary instrument in every song, it gives the whole album a classical sound

  78. M.... ....

Suddenly I'm transformed back...... woa....... the colors... letters flying by... Owsley... Leary... green... blues... Kesey... the waa waa... melting... drifting... the war... yeah.... the war... It'll be over... soon...yeah... swirling around...

    M.... ....

Owsley.... yikes, me too. RIP now though...

  79. d.... ....

This song about nuclear apocalypse from 1968 is prophetic...look around us here in 2015.

    d.... ....

@seeker floyd Awful, but hardly the apocalypse!

    d.... ....

Have you seen any reports of the declining sea life in the Pacific ? What about the data on open air testing for 50 years. Chemtrail hearings in California? It is Apocalyptic of Biblical proportions.

    d.... ....

@seeker floyd Hardly friend. Biblical?! Noah, the flood, everything wiped off the planet, start again with the two by two etc. I get what you are saying, the planet is in a state of disarray, but it's no where near apocalyptic, which is the original point here.

    d.... ....

!0 percent of sea life left, Algae blooms down 70 %, six trillion trees destroyed, weather patterns altered worldwide,Ice free Arctic at the North Pole this coming year, some chronic disease up thousands of percent here in America,Global spraying of aluminum and barium, mercury in all sea and fresh water, I disagree. Try turning off the TV. Don't confuse entertainment with information. You can go to Turkey and stand on the Ark,They are willingly ignorant. After all the bible is actually the only book that has predicted the future accurately and is still doing so.

    d.... ....

It has not happened yet. What makes you think there will come a time?

  80. l.... ....

I love their music and how they arrange it. Awesome band! I wished a few of the bands today kicked ass like the airplane.

  81. j.... d....

harmonies, dischordant, wisdom, :Somebodys dealing, somebodys stealing,

The earth will be quiet again.
    Suddenly everyone will look surprised,
Stars spinning wheels in the skies,
Sun is scrambled in their eyes
    And circleslike a vulture.

Someone stood at the window and cried one tear.
I thought that would stop the war, but someone is killing me.

Jelly and juice and bubblesbubbles on the floor.

As splinters, dust, and black flowers.

They blew my mind in May ‘68 at Fillmore East in NYC. Played it seemed till 2 in the morning. Wore out the band until just Jorma and Jack and Mitch Mitchell came out to drum. Fantastic night. Next day they played live for free in Central Park with the Dead. Think I was never the same.

Jack's bass just resonates throughout this song. I used to blast this song from my hi fi through a Standell super artist amp that I had bought from a friend. Great times! Used to drive my poor parents nuts!   Peace.

We used to like to hook up our small GE Mustang-500 stereo into my brother's Gretch Bass amp, set it up on the back patio and blast this album into the night.  Something about this album that drives us crazy enough to drive everyone else nuts! Summer 1969 was a great time to be a teenager!
