Jeff Beck - Guitar Shop Lyrics

Pre-amp, pro-sound performance
Groove tube
Killer caps
You're a strap cat
Patch in
Dangerous distortion
Serious sustain

Slinky, super slinky
Boomers double-ball ends
It'll faze, it'll flange, it'll buzz
It's fast, it's flexible
Just feel those frets

Assimilated cone filter
For steroizing a mono source
It's got scaled-down, streched-out audio
Feel of a Les Paul

Deep cut aways and no pick guard
And a couple of chrome buckers
Full shread

Stiff neck brass nut and an ebony finger board
Paul's deluxe

I bought this album when it first came out. My first real introduction to Jeff Beck. Whole record blew my f***ing mind...this song as well. He came to town promoting this album with a show. I just had to go see him. Did all the songs exactly like on the record!!! Again my mind was blown. JB Fan for life!!!

Aside from being an iconic musician he also builds hot rods from scratch so the album cover fits perfectly, if anyone hasn’t been to a JB concert yet go see him he brings down the house every time seen him 6 times and hasn’t disappointed me yet he is amazing

  9. C.... D....

  12. W.... ....

  13. W.... ....

Jeff Beck is the human slinky of guitar!

  14. J.... L....

I remember listening to this when I was kid, I literally had no clue what the ad man was saying (1:45) sounded like gibberish. 12 or so years later proud to say I understand everything hes saying. except maybe a monosaurus.....

    Jackson Langford Mono source.

  15. c.... ....

1:23 - 1:45... PERFECT MLB Walk Up song!

  16. A.... N....

3:36 From here to the end of the song would make a good End Credits riff for a movie... a car driving off in the distance, towards the setting sun.

    best Jeff back's album.

  22. A.... K....

    Simply mind blowing.

  23. N.... ....

The sign 'Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop' faces the workshop, so visitors will be expected to read right to left hahaha!
It should face the viewers. :p

    N.... ....

+Napoleon4778 The shop door appears to be around the side of the building, with the gas pumps presumably at the front of the building (i.e., out the shop door and around the corner to the right). So the road would be running parallel to the wall with the sign "Proprietors Jeff Beck ...", and thus the "Beck's Guitar Shop" sign would be facing drivers approaching in the lane on the far side of the road.

    N.... ....

@David Jorgensen Ah, never saw it that way! :D

    N.... ....

Why would a shop that works on gigantic guitars have gas pumps?

    N.... ....

@Cynical Shaman Alcohol dispensers. To get gassed.

  25. R.... L....

    The BOMB.

    R.... L....

Bought this when it first came out. Couldn't get into it. I am a Beck fan, maybe it was beyond my musical comprehension. Love the Live at Ronnie Scott's dvd.

    R.... L....

@Vivert Bailey - Jeff Beck is an acquired taste.  Each release is so different sometimes it's instant....sometimes it takes a while maybe years.  I got into this right away because I had been on that journey with him through prog jazz.  All but a few of his electronic pieces escape me.  I love Bozzio as drummer here too.  He complements Beck very well.

    R.... L....

I'll give it another try.perhaps I'm all grown up now lol. Thanks Kathy 2trips

  26. h.... ....

    Great Terry Bozio.

  27. J.... A....

    1:45 ..that's gotta' be Zappa.

    J.... A....

It's Terry, who did some vocal work on Zappa's catalogue too

    J.... A....

    Interesting, thanks.

All we can do Gregg as parents is plant the seed....and keep watering it.

    G.... H....

A day to be truly proud.

Phenomenal album. Absolutely deserved to win the Grammy. Still cuts to this day...

    S.... m....

@S. man - JB has a record 6 Grammy wins in that category.  Next closest is Sting with 3 wins.  Nobody can touch JB!

  34. M.... ....

  37. P.... S....

This is one of my all time faves, I'm a guitarist myself, LOVE IT, ROCK ON JB!!

  38. M.... ....

How can Terry Kath not be among great guitar players like Jeff Beck, Alex Lifeson, Eric Clapton and many others? His work with Chicago was quite well, especially the solo in "25 or 6 to 4". His ability to switch between playing chords and leading lines was absolutely fantastic, considering he was one guitarist in a 7=8 piece band. I'm not saying he's the best but well under-rated.

  39. q.... ....

Well you are out fo yuor depth in this discussion. Kath isnt even in that league, and he is never cited as being a superlative player. Chicago? FFS, get a clue!

  40. M.... ....

I'd put Terry Kath in that list as well.

  41. T.... T....

I might add Metheny. All good choices, ESPECIALLY Holdsworth. Might add Adrian Belew also.

  42. A.... L....

I dont know if there is a greatest , or 2nd greatest. There are a pool of guitarists who have such superhuman skills that overshadow the others in SOME way.

Hendrix, Vaughan, Buchanan.....perhaps the greatest wailing electric blues players ever..cant be compared to Page, Lifeson, Beck, etc for originality and tasteful phrasing,,,,,who in .turn cant be compared to YJM, Buckethead, Holdsworth etc (just to nane a few old school players) for their speed and precision.

    And so on it goes...

  43. T.... T....

I would argue . . . I want to argue, but it will get us nowhere. Especially since we agree on so much. All I'll say is that I consider Jeff Beck to be--just by a hair--the second greatest rock guitarist of all time. "The First" you ask? : ))))))))))))

  44. A.... L....

You misunderstamd, or maybe I didnt make it clear enough.

Hendrix wished he would have reached Becks level of uniqueness, classiness, originality, and creativity. At his Time, Hendrix was nowhere near to that, as Beck is today.

I would never imply a great guitarist needs to clone any other.

  45. T.... T....

Hendrix accepted the offer to go to England, telling young future Spirit guitarist Randy California: "Let's go find Jeff Beck," Randy's parents wouldn't let him go. However--as cool as that story is--Hendrix would NEVER wish to be anyone else. He bowed down to no one. The both of them are in a stratosphere we can't comprehend. Balls Deluxe.

  46. J.... E....

Bozzio's vocals here are just hilarious- I saw him on a Frank Zappa DVD recently, the way he throws his voice is priceless! We talk about his talent at the drum shop near my college-LOL!
    Rock on Beck n Bozzio!

  47. L.... R....

This album and song are the MASTER COPY! I saw SRV with Beck in Dayton, OH in '98,-'99? I bought "Guitar Shop" the next day. My favorite Beck album!. His best album IMO

  48. D.... ....

The music store I worked at, this was one of a couple of CDs we used to demo the PA systems and components.

  49. p.... f....

and i remember me buying this cd....greaat!!!

  50. J.... H....

    Terry. Its Terry Bozzio....

  51. A.... L....

Jeff beck is the guitarist Hendix wishes he could have been if he was alive today. Beck is classy, unique, and badass in his subte way. And one of the greatest players ever.

  52. D.... P....

You have an awesome brother, and what album isn't Jeff Beck incredible on?

  53. T.... R....

I saw the same tour, but in Santa Cruz Ca. It was concert I will never forget.

  54. L.... R....

  57. J.... I....

At 0:55 is Jeff playing a Tele with a tremolo, or still his Strat? Its sounds fucking awesome, and has an amazing spank and twang to it.

  58. n.... ....

I just remembered that this was the first CD I ever bought.... mostly for the album cover if I'm honest, but some good stuff.

  59. C.... F....

  64. s.... ....

  65. T.... ....

Didn't Beck get a Grammy for this album?

  66. c.... ....

@gunshy9 yeah man.....I think, i'm a bit jealous of that or more then just a bit.I guess, you still remember that experience pretty good, don't ya??

  67. c.... ....

When I heard amazingly hunting guitar on soundtrack to movie Days Of Thunder,I was lost!! I was thinking ; this is just about greatest sound i ever heard. I did'nt know,of course ,that it was Jeff Beck. I was thirteen years old and from then on, I judged every guitar performance by those melodies. When later, I founded out, who He was and what He mean't to guitar instrument and listened more of His work,it was easy to understand why i had problem for years, to find any better music.

  68. J.... ....

This album is what Genius sounds like......amazing, one of my favs for years.

  69. k.... ....

I still have the CASSETTE I bought the day this was released, and a few weeks later I got to see J. Beck and SRV on "The Fire & The Fury Tour". ...For newbies, go back to The Jeff Beck Group circa '68 then check-out everything afterward, ESPECIALLY "Wired", "There & Back", "Guitar Shop" and "Who Else?" ALSO check-out the DVDs "Crossroads 2007" and "Live At Ronnie Scott's" and every well-recorded vid here on YouTube.

  70. S.... ....

Yeah Terry Bozzio is one of the best drummers out there today,Bozzio,Paice,Palmer, and Peart are all amazing.Bozzio was fantastic with Frank Zappa, especially on Zappa's
    'Baby Snakes" live dvd.

  71. S.... ....

I got the idea for my you tube name "Stratcat" from Beck's guitar shop,"your a stratcat".plus i have a strat. This is one of Jeff Beck's greatest albums, but i love them all.

  72. k.... 2....

I performed and choreographed my dance final in college to this song. People clapped for 5 solid minutes. Great song, everyone said. Oh, yeah, you were good, too. LOL!

  75. L.... D....

this was the best birthday gift i could get from my sister Pat, in 1990. (i was 26 by then) i've had the tape 'til it was stolen from my car (car included) 5 years ago. Guitar Masters! Awesome! I'm glad i've found this! thanx so much to you, gre1990 Can you post the rest of the album pleeeezze? Peace! I'm suscribin' to your channel!

  76. c.... ....

Precisely. In 1989 or early '90, I remember my brother talking me out of buying Satch's "Flying in a Blue Dream" and convinced me to buy "Guitar Shop." I've listened to them both since they came out, and while I love Satch, Jeff Beck is incredible on this album.

  77. C.... C....

Having grown up on Satriani, Paul Gilbert et-al I remember hearing this and thinking: This guy is a genius! Never heard anything like Beck before - or since. Truly an original! Thanks for posting this.

  78. P.... R....

    the guy is a GENIOUS

  79. g.... ....

My first Beck album was Blow By Blow, and then I got this when it came out. I was THIS close to buying a seafoam green Strat Plus soon after..haha.

I just love some of the licks on this track, like the trem bar gargle @ 1:07,the shred lick @ 2:08 (yeah,he MUST'VE used a pick for that, right?!?!?!), and the "full shred" one @ 2:25.

  80. c.... ....

Haven't heard this in a while. Still sounds good, and I'm still not sure how Jeff does that run at 2:08 with no pick.

  81. C.... J....

Ohhh, OK!! So i apologize, sorry mate!

  82. n.... ....

you don't understand american slang-dopest shit ever made means it's the the best-great-awesome!!!!! I think it's teen slang.

  84. h.... ....

Consistantly the best guitarist, he remains raw and innovative whilst his contemporaries stuck to the same old stuff.
