Jeff Beck - Ambitious Lyrics
Here is a rich boy, a bit of a brat
To him life's just a fling
Phi, beta, kappa and first in his class
He's treated just like a king
So I guess I'll just take everything"
He's just ambitious
He's not a bad man
He's just ambitious
He's not a bad man
Just ambitious, woah, yeah just ambitious
Here is a young girl, born down and out
Locked up in jail when she was ten, yeah
Sits on the judge side of the bench
She's just ambitious
She's not a bad girl
She's just ambitious
She's not a bad girl
Just ambitious, woah, yeah just ambitious
Here is a wild man who thirsts for a fight
And his cool streak gets him by
All these four-letter words in his mind
Here is a man who'll survive
He's just ambitious
He's just a wild man
He's just ambitious
He's just a wild man
Just ambitious, woah, yeah just ambitious
Here is a wild man who thirsts for a fight
Just ambitious
Always a four-letter word in his mind
Just ambitious
Don't you know, I'm just ambitious
I'm not a bad man, just ambitious
I'm not a bad man, just ambitious
Woah, yeah, just ambitious
I'm not a bad man, just ambitious
I'm not a bad man, just ambitious
I'm not a bad man, just ambitious
I'm not a bad man, just ambitious, yeah, yeah

Jeff Beck Ambitious Comments
Music peaked in 1984-1985. PERIOD.
JEFF....the one and only ! Thanks for sharing !!!!
Great! Great sandwich!
Compared to his work in the Yardbirds this is just awful.
Thank you love this
They should have had Marilyn McCoo sing the entire song....................
Did I see the bass player from Spinal Tap in there somewhere?
Beck=Guitar monster
Herb Alpert should have brought the Tijuana Brass with him.
0:30 OK, so is it just me, or does Donny Osmond look, and sound like a younger Johnny Depp for a brief moment in this video?

That Pro Co Rat distortion pedal that he’s using here sounds good.
This video is a nice snapshot of where we were culturally in that era. I miss it.
Pretty Awesome !
..." Am I too late" ?
Is that Nigel Tuffnel on guitar??? For real???
Zal Moxis they based Tufnel on Beck
Great outro guitar solo from a legend.
Living proof that you can notget any better, would definately beat the Devil in a play off.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song... damn, Beck’s guitar... 5:02 - just wow.
CHEECH!
Beck simply out of this world, has to be Britains greatest export yo the world, best there is and has ever been, hands of god nobody can match the master.
LIKEN UNTO THE HORSES THAT WIN THE KENTUCKY DERBY 2019 MAXIMUM SECURITY 1964 NORTHERN DANCER UNDER 2 MINS. FASTEST 2 MINS IN HISTORY MY FOOT
Always the Man!
Jimmy Hall did a great great job with the song ,but definitly , this was a song for Mick Jagger with Mr Beck ,naturaly !!
yeah shes the boss sessions meets arthur baker productions
Phil Alvin of the Blaster's!
JIMMY HALL - THE BEST!!!!
I was bracing for that fuckin' guitar to burst into flames.
I will maybe commit sacrilege by saying this solo is very inspired in Adrian Belew's solo on "The great curve" from Talking Heads album Remain in Light... it has a similar contour to it... I love both solos
This was such an awesome 👏 song and video loved Jeff Beck ! And everyone in
It 👍👍👍😊😊
0:57 Wow, the creepy twins from 'The Shining' look a lot different grown up. :)
What always blew me away about Beck is that he never used to use a pick.
THE guitar god.
Was this ever in the charts? i remember watching it on TV at the time.
Terrible song
How did I never see this, I had the cassette back in the day
zelmo77 it was on MTV once or twice but then I never saw it again, had the cassette as well
Herve Villachaise (Tatoo) & Herb Albert at the end of video PRICELESS!!!
Hereve Vilachez....... ambitious
One of the greatest music videos of all time.
A re make would be amazing
It wouldn't be as good as the original.
Awesome video from the 1980s. And Marilyn McCoo nailed it!
Great, great sandwich!
Nigel Tufnel
My son was born on September 18, 1985....Wow hes in his early 30s now
Jef Beck is among the greatest 🎸 guitars in the whole world!! Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Erick Clapton, Santana, his fingers are awesome!! By that time, he was so handsome! Too!!
Patricia Iness López sanchez
Among? Honey...he IS.
Is that a very young Tia Carrera at 3:12? Has anyone listed somewhere all the people who cameoed in this video?
yes it is
Who was the guy after Donny Osmond? Donny was not too bad either!
Is he the guy who actually got the gig?
Probably the greatest guitar player. I guess they felt he had to do this to be in style. This was a low point in his career. Regardless of the great guitar playing, it’s lame song. Right? I think Jeff would say the same thing. But his guitar playing is incredible
Not a lame song at all. In fact, it's a great song.
Spare Room Demos it thought it was a fun track...the sort of track you can have the whole audience joining in
Oh yeah! Great funk/rock!
Marylin's part is the coolest. Jeff's guitar "gunshots" acknowledge how hot she is.
Jeff Beck is still around folks. He did release the album "Loud Hailer" in 2016 and the latest live-release is show called "Jeff Beck Live At Hollywood Bowl 2016". Very different albums but both worth checking out.
I'm surprised that Beck's guitar didn't catch on fire during that solo at the end. Great stuff.
Check out his Flash album for more shredding, especially a song called 'It Gets Us All in the End' !
YELLOW BLASER, BLACK SKIRT, RED SPIKE SHOES, JOAN JETT??
2:35 - Follow the drip, follow the drip........
Donny Osmond at the beginning too.
Would love to hear this song played live, Jeff Beck just wails on this!
I only want to hear it exactly as it is here.
When i first heard this song/saw this vid. on tv, it was around '91 or '92, and i can't even begin to tell you A) Just how badly i wanted the album (Flash) the track is from, and B) Just how fucking difficult it was to find!! I eventually hunted it down (on vinyl) at a small record fair in the local Town Hall. I almost shit my pants when i saw it whilst searching through the record 'bins'! Obviously second-hand, but cheap, and in mint condition. I couldn't quite believe i had it in my hands after what i'd been through to find a copy. I still have it, and still love it and now i even have it on my Apple Music - modern technology, eh? Great album, but this track is what started my 'mission'. I mean, just listen to that fuckin' solo...!!! \m/ (:o)
Eric Clapton: in a Rolling Stone interview.. "Jeffie can play all my stuff. I wouldn't know how to start playing his. It's like multitasking. I just stand pulling my jaw off the floor." Nuff said.
P.S. Afterwards Jeff complimented Eric. Class.
Yours may be one of the best comments i have ever seen on YouTube... \m/ (:o)
@ Hugh McBride ... When asked who the greatest living guitarist was , David Gilmore commented "Clapton is a fine blues player but Jeff Beck is in a different league". Jimmy page commented that " When he's on form, Jeff Beck is the best that there is". Paul Rodgers said " There are other guitarists and then there is Jeff Beck". Gary Moore was also a massive fan of Jeff.
Beck-o isn't the fastest, or the most technical, but he's among the few who evolved a distinct approach to the instrument. I can't think of anybody who can make a guitar sound so much like a human voice. And he's still producing good music. Really in a class of his own.
@ David Windhorst ...I'm also a big fan of Jeff''s but I believe that the guy who made the guitar have a human voice expression was Roy Buchanan ; check out 'Five String Blues' by Roy. I was blown away by the sound that he achieved by manipulating the tone control on his Telecaster to get a Wah type of effect only better IMO.

I haven't seen this video since the eighties. Tattoo, wow. I don't remember him being in the video. There are some other great songs on this album. The 80's. Great music!
Get's Us All In The End is one of the greatest rock tunes EVER!
Brett Martin m
Jimmy Hall and Jeff Beck are are far better combination than Rod Stewart and Beck. Oh yeh
"Ambition is the internal drive that makes a person succeed no matter what the odds..."
Finally my ambition to look for this video has paid off ,muahahahaha
Love this video! Got such a kick at the cameos. Marilyn McCoo was awesome and Donny Osmond, believe it or not, held his own. Now why didn't Parker Stevenson sing? LOL
the peeps i could identify is dave alvin, Marilyn Mcoo, billy preston, donnie osmound, parker stevens, jeffery dahmer?
Eddie Da Silva jeffery dahmer...lmao 😂
OMG Jeff so handsome in this.....Wow!
This is my favorite JEFF BECK song and video
lot of fun. and shredding
a pretty funny video.there's always humor in jeff's playing. BTW he should have gotten Marilyn McCoo for his singer. she nailed it.
Marilyn McCoo CRUSHED IT!!!
Yes, Marylin was slearly the one for the song. Her part is so bad when Jeff does those sound fx. Much as I hate to admit it, though, Donnie did okay.
Who is the guy singing at 3:16. Seems like he's somebody I should know.
Jimmy Hall, Wet Wilile, still touring with Beck this year.
The best two bits are when Parker Stevenson walks up behind Donny Osmond. Says it all. The Herb Alpert showing up at the end.
Agreed, but for me, Jeff Beck sounds better with a song wrapped around his work. I can see why he chose his route though. He's an instrumentalist not a songwriter. Not unlike Dave Gilmour in some ways. He tried but now his wife does the lyrics.
Thanks love this video
I don't like Eddie Van Halen's "twiddly fingered gimmickry" (to my ears and eyes) at all. I got into guitar in the 70s so EVH came later. I love a bit of flash and Jeff Beck has it but I was disappointed the one time I saw him. Too jazzy and aimless for me. Sorry if you don't agree, but that's just me.
Jeff Beck left the rock and roll scene to presue a Jazz/Rock career. He always wanted to have open chances to just play how he wants. Jazz music kinda alows it more than Rock 'n Roll. Rock gives you a brief moment of "solos", but they hardly last very long. Jazz is basically progressive music that changes all the time through it. Making the transition between songs even easier
Too bad Jeff isn't plugged in to anything !
he's not a bad man
Brilliant guitar work! Like this album FLASH!
1:02 Gerry Buckley of the 70's group America
3:58 I don't know his name but he was in the video for Phil Collins "Billy Don't Lose My Number" playing a video director who stabbed himself with an arrow
4:15 Ventriloquist Willie Tyler and Lester
4:34 keyboardist Peter Robinson who toured with Phil Collins in the mid 1980's.
Since this video came out in 1985, the same year as USA For Africa and other similar all star benefit recordings and concerts and since most of the guests were past their peak popularity, my brother and I referred to this as "Has Beens For Africa".
any video with international super star herve villechaize in it ,is pure gold also donniies really rocking those aviators and members only jacket...i miss the 80"s sigh.
Jon Butcher, Donny Osmond, and Herb Alpert at the end?
Beck's 80's Miami Vice Madonna album..Love it ! Donnie Osmond and Marilyn McCoo the stars of the video..Great album--an insane mix of singers and musicians..Totally under-rated CD
yeah Marilyn McCoo totally rips it and gerry beckley too.
solos a great tribute to brad gillis.
back in the day of super cool high end cassette decks. back when hollywood was associated with rock and roll. now they just spew hip hop culture.
Was that Phil Alvin?
No, it was FLAAAAAVIN!!!!!
...and Jimmy Hall?! 🤔
Before America's got talent and American Idol - there was this video...
30 years later and Jeff Beck is still active with his album "Live +". Have it a try if you haven't already!

Was that Phil Alvin starting things out?
A bit late for the reply but yes, that is Phil Alvin.
Kimberlee Ponson
Can anyone list all of the "guest singers" in this video, in order?
Loved this clip when it came out! Jeff has always done his own thing, whatever he wants... Which is mainly to shred on the guitar! This clip IS fun... But I now need to get the CD out to hear the proper version!

Hands of god rules yet again.
Jeff Beck IS the spirit of rock n roll!
oh my gawd, Beck and Marilyn McCoo totally rocked this! Damn!
ohh yeah!
Could be his least well known but best solo.
The "great sandwich" eaten by the beardy man in the hat has been verified by a top team of sandwich scientists as the greatest sandwich ever prepared for consumption in a Jeff Beck music video.
@Kojii Naz It's a nod to another video that Phil Collins came out with earlier that year... same line is employed.
@David Malone
Ah ... OK
+David Malone Same guy too!
+aliensporebomb
The video was "Billy Don't Lose My Number". He was the director who stabbed himself in the chest with a fake arrow.
different fat guy but the long haired blonde guy was in both. the same cat naming westerns with phil. indeed a nod to the previous videos jim yukich did mainly with genenis /phil.
Let's not forget actor Parker Stevenson, at the start of the video, who signs in right after Donny Osmond.
i really think this is a cool song. now. in the 80's as a teen i thought it sucked. right! man who is that black chic singing after hevero chervo. lol. she is great. perfect for beck!
Marilyn McCoo?
@Porfle Popnecker yes - once part of 5th Dimension
JIMMY HALL! One of the best rock/soul voices EVER.
And one of the nicest guys on the planet! Speaking from firsthand knowledge ...
RIP Dr Joyce Brothers
