Jayhawks, The - Smile Lyrics

Wake up, put your shoes on
Take a breath of the northern air
And rub those eyes
Genuflect beneath the starry skies

Before you climb the mountain
First the foothills must appear
Step high and light
And take up your staff and shining armor

(Chin up, chin up)
You don't really have a problem
(Chin up, chin up)
In your hour of despair

And smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile

The stars on the horizon
Stretch as far as the eyes can see
They represent the souls of those like you and me

And smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile

(Chin up, chin up)
You don't really have a problem
(Chin up, chin up)
In your hour of despair

And smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)...

Great song. A much under rated band that deserves to be more popular for the shear quality of their song writing. I've never heard any of their songs on the radio in New Zealand but I've bought all their albums.

  5. B.... ....

This one starts heavily reminiscent of George Harrison's Beware of Darkness... but then it flies really high above it in terms of bliss.

  6. B.... ....

Starting on a very reminiscent key to George Harrison's Beware Of Darkness... But then hitting a level of bliss above that!

I instantly hear under tones of George Harrison. That's pretty cool. I've never heard of the Jayhawks. I guess I'm going to have to dig up some more. Anyone have a recommendation for their quintessential album?

    M.... ....

Yep been listening to Healey for years! Cheers

Mark Kidd he's pretty great. He was taught by a friend of my dad. The teacher is a great guy, and I imagine he was even better with Jeff.

MarkKiddGuitar, my quintessential Jayhawks album is Sound of Lies. It's quite amazing from start to finish, and I can still listen to it and find something new and exciting about it. Try that one if you feel like it. Smile is my 2nd favorite album of theirs.

    M.... ....

Tomorrow The Green Grass. Start there.
