Jayhawks, The - Everybody Knows Lyrics
Tell me now if you came sneaking up behind
Would you know me and see behind the smile
I can change like colors on a wall
Hoping no one else will find what lies beneath it all
I think I hide it all so well
Stepping out, everyone can see my face
All the things I can't erase from my life
Everybody knows
Standing out so you won't forget my name
That's the way we play this game of life
Everybody knows
Looking through the crowd
I search for someone else
But every time I turn around
Here I stand
Consumed with my surroundings
Just another day
Of everybody looking
I swore they'd never see me cry
Never see me cry
Stepping out, everyone can see my face
All the things I can't erase from my life
Everybody knows
Standing out so you won't forget my name
That's the way we play this game of life
Everybody knows
You say I'll pay the price
That's the chance that I'll take
Though you may think I'm telling lies
But I just call it getting by
Stepping out, everyone can see my face
All the things I can't erase from my life
Everybody knows
Standing out so you won't forget my name
That's the way we play this game of life
Everybody knows
Everybody knows
Everybody knows
I'm just barely getting by
Everybody knows
I'm just barely getting by
Everybody knows
I'm just barely getting by
Everybody knows
I'm just barely getting by
Everybody knows
Everybody knows

Found “Tomorrow the Green Grass” and “Sound of Lies” in a bargain bin 20 years ago. Never heard of them prior to that. Best decision to buy those records. Still wondering why the hell someone hocked those especially Tomorrow! Great underrated band!
Real music played by real musicians, you can't beat that.
This one is in my mind, a better version then the Dixie Chicks.
If Jayhawks toured with Blue Rodeo it would be epic
damn it. missed them them in New hamphire.!
a very solid band
Gotta see them live.
Jayhawks and Avett Brothers are two of the most underrated bands out there. Wish Jayhawks would come out to California again!
Jitterpig Jen literally my two favorite bands
The Jayhawks will be here at The Flying Monkey on 9/20/19!!

Beautiful vocal harmonies
i love karens voice fits so nice with garys high lonesome melodies magical
Super voice...he downplays how good it is, but admit it or not, it is superb!
JAYHAWKS rule ! those harmonies --- (wooo oooh) hit my soul hard
Hello. I have a question. The Jayhawks have been around a long time. Since early 90s or so. They have survived personnel changes, musical fads and a changing music industry. Simply put, they have been releasing great music for a long time now. But, they have never really achieved main stream success.
My question is this... Are tge members of the Jayhawks financially stable? Are they rich? Have they been rewarded financially for all the great music they have made through the years? I’m just curious. I wish Jayhawks would make the money that disposable musicians make. Compare the Jayhawks to.. Cardi B, Lil pump, etc. they get rich somehow.
The Train i am sure they are quite comfortable. Plus, they also write songs for others which brings in income.
No they are not rich or even financially stable. Read the Wikipedia entry. They went into debt to their record company which promoted "Smile" heavily but didn't do well. Nobody gets rich from record sales or royalties anymore. They tour because they have to. (Yes, also they love to.)
A great song from a great band. I’m outta step with the world of music, because I hear this and wonder why isn’t heard on many media platforms. It’s not the Jayhawks best song, but it’s a perfect example of how great this band is.
Great band. Seen them live twice. Even went to London from Sweden to see them.
What a harmony ! Love you all.
F*ck I love this band... since the 90s.
Great band. Unfortuately bands playing country rock are not popular here in Brazil. People confuse the style with "sertanejo" . Or ´música de corno'. So this style of rock music that mixes country music with rock is not popular here because people think it is local corno music...
Hello Andrea, love its. Listen Sera Cahoone.
serious fuckin tchune bois
So excited to get to see you in May at Charlotte NC!!!!
Sweet Jesus that is fucking amazing. What incredible song writing. I haven't heard anything that good in a long time.
written with the dixie chicks
Written BY the Dixie Chicks.
@Erica Sharbonda Gary Louris shares songwriting credits with the Dixie Chicks on this one
Just as with REM, if you're making music with this band then you're living in a heavenly realm.
This song feels like home. Thank you The Jayhawks for always being there when you need some magic in your daily life.

one of my all-time fav bands does it again :)
Professionals, doing what they do best. Lovely melodies and harmonies over tasteful playing. These folks work together so beautifully.
My latest favorite band. Hope I'll be able to catch a tour show. Ever come to Atlanta?
Great song, as usual, many thanks
Fantastic song.
Gary Louris should never die.
Simply fantastic. Great band, seen them live several times here in the UK.
Very nice! When are we getting a Karen solo album?
Greetings from Germany 🍾
Every time I hear that song it gets me.
This preceded Harvey Weinxtein but fits him perfectly
In my 50+ years of playing and writing, this band is the dearest to my heart.
So true
Weighty words and no truer words, Dave. The Jayhawks sound is a distillation of all of the music that's made you the happiest in the last fifty years. An incredible achievement! And the guy in the hat bears an uncanny resemblance to the late Gram Parsons, which couldn't be more fitting for the occasion.
@roger murray
I heartily agree. When I first heard Hollywood Town Hall all those years ago, I had that same feeling: I'd found a band that made the kind of music that I'd loved for so many years. They have followed the bloodline of Buffalo Springfield and The Byrds, but not slavishly. Over the years, The Jayhawks have established themselves as a unique, creative force of their own. The always "get me."
david hill amen
Love it ...!
Best band in the world. (Seriously)
Seriously!
Very seriously
I agree! Best Minnesota Band Ever!!!
