Jay & The Americans - My Prayer Lyrics

My prayer is to linger with you
At the end of the day in a dream that's divine
My prayer is a rapture in blue
With the world far away and your lips close to mine

Tonight while our hearts are aglow
Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know

My prayer and the answer you give
May they still be the same for as long as we live
That you'll always be there at the end of my prayer

  5. N.... M....

Jay AND The Americans Where The Best Groups Of The 50's. SINCERELY YOURS NICK AND KATHY MY WIFE.

  6. B.... S....

See also his later version, still got it.

  7. R.... M....

He has the vocal range of (almost) Roy Orbison ... Great Song .. so many memories

  8. j.... ....

The problem (if you can call it that) with a guy like Jay Black and the Americans is that there were not enough good songs written to showcase his extraordinary vocal range. He was truly a fabulous singer. No auto tune back then. I can't think of a single male performer today who can match this guys voice. Perhaps there are guys out there, but we just don't hear them because this type of music isn't popular today. I miss music like this. Where have all the tunes gone?

  9. R.... J....

The best voice in rock and roll...

  10. D.... W....

    🎶👍❤️

  11. M.... 8....

    M.... 8....

  12. r.... s....

As you get older you appreciate music more when this came out, I dismissed it as "white"music, now I hear this and I am enthralled!

  13. M.... C....

My mom's favorite song in the world. I pulled up this video for her many times over the years. RIP Gigi, until I see you again!
    ~til the end of time~

  14. F.... M....

What a great set of pipes

  15. t.... ....

Those dancers look so stupid. Great song.

  16. M.... Z....

The guy playing the electric guitar forgot to plug it into the amp. :)

  17. B.... S....

his back up singers were no joke either

    B.... S....

Except many have backed him up as well in his long career and they were so jealous of his success that when the IRS forced him to sell the name they bought it and now tour as the "ORIGINAL JAY and the Americans " with a very poor substitute for Jay Black, who was the reason for their success in the first place. People email Jay Black to say "I went to see you and you weren't there!"

  18. Q.... J....

Great job Jay Black! Hard to find talent like you today, I see how times were different and so was talent and versatility!

  19. R.... H....

One of the Most talented singers in his Era!

  20. C.... M....

how can one listen to this and not be transported back. I remember so many crushes...so many I will love you forever,,,, so many young girls dreams

  21. e.... c....

Sehr schön danke für den Upload und beste Wünsche

  22. i.... ....

Didn't know they had cordless guitars back then.

Why does that guy even have a guitar, they don't need the prop. Just sing back-up.

  23. J.... N....

For the 1000 or so dislikes, what's good music on your planet sound like?

  24. a.... o....

Nostalgia of the old times 60 are always good and l like the black and white clips

  25. F.... s....

    If you can't sing, rap.
If you can sing do it like Jay

  26. u.... ....

She will be my and her love till the end of time. Love her always....and she doesn't even know I POSTED THIS.

  27. a.... l....

Great song great memories....we still hear imitation but not the same

  28. C.... M....

I was so bloody young....I thought i knew what was right for me,,,,,no songs these days capture your essence the way they used to

  29. A.... R....

I love him, he is so funny too.

  30. N.... S....

One of the greatest voices ever!!!!

  31. J.... ....

Don't want to be an old fuddy duddy but Jay along with the likes of the KING, The Big O, Gene Pitney & Gary Puckett who these days could match Those LEGENDS. Oh wait, Kanye West the self proclaimed greatest performer all time could. Dream on Kanye 🤣

  32. M.... H....

Do us a favor—-omit the stupid asinine bullshit lyrics at the bottom of the screen!

  33. C.... L....

Those girls dancing in the backgground are hilarious. I'd like to see them do the dance today. Not bashing since I'm about the same age.

  34. M.... O....

    Amazing

  35. s.... ....

One of the classics i used to search for on my transistor..

  36. I.... P....

    Very special voice.

  37. S.... P....

He had a great voice, not like the rubbish around now.

  38. V.... R....

    He was blind .....

    V.... R....

Are you sure about that?  There is a story on the Internet about a man named Jay Black who is blind but I don't think they are the same person.

  39. C.... A....

Listening to this in 2019.. grandma just passed away.. she requested this song a while back

    C.... A....

Listened to it for about the tenth time today!OMG~

  40. M.... W....

    Rock and roll opera

  41. R.... D....

    No one Joe.

  42. R.... S....

Great song! I remember when it came out...

  43. M.... P....

Jay and the Americans played at Alfred SUNY in1968... spot on live vocals, no auto tune for this consummate professional

  44. H.... G....

Some people tried to discourage Jay from singing that song.  They said it would destroy his voice.

  45. L.... G....

I always thought it was Roy Orbison! Oh well 🤷🏿

    L.... G....

lovely givan ..."Roy Orbison" not on his best day on this record....

  46. m.... m....

what a great song to sing to yr loved one while holding hands before you ask to marry you...hopefully not getting slapped afterwards...lol

  47. C.... D....

Every time I listen to this tune I get teary-eyed and choked up. Beautiful memories I wish I could re-live again.

    C.... D....

I feel the exact same way!

  48. F.... K....

Equally interesting is how Jay Black came to the group and "test drove" this song

  49. T.... J....

In my honest opinion, JayBlack, had it than way back in the 60's a d he never lost it he sounds even better today at 62 ,or any age love you , Jay Black, a true 60,s fan

  50. S.... E....

    Beautiful voice..

  51. N.... H....

    Brilliant stuff, can’t stop listening

  52. D.... A....

It's incredible to me that this reached only #7 on the charts!

  53. a.... V....

I thought this was a Russian song

  54. j.... p....

I liked them the best & roy orbison marrlee rush lived just up the street from me

  55. c.... ....

The year I graduated form high school

  56. L.... P....

    THE BEST

  57. S.... M....

It is true, Jay Black has a great vocal gift and will always be one of finest singers of all time.

  58. N.... M....

Heard this guy many times and he still has the voice you take notice with GREAT

  59. J.... M....

An excellent tenor no doubt about it. How he can hold the high notes is amazing really. He must have had very powerful lungs. Besides the song is catchy and one that is always remembered.

  60. C.... L....

I used to try and sing this. back in Lodi Calif. On Fri and Sat nights I would sneak my dad's transistor radio and listen to Wolfman Jack. But the batteries would run out and he started to hide it.

  61. J.... ....

This is music! This will never die!

  62. P.... R....

    Watching it in 2019

  63. R.... G....

    White lives matter

  64. D.... O....

There were three different “Jays”, he was a money hungry dude, the first that is! Go ahead google it. But I loved all three and their songs!

  65. B.... H....

He hits those high notes so effortlessly!

    B.... H....

As I read a while ago, John Gotti loved this group. They sang at his daughter's wedding.

  66. 1.... ....

That is a fair question, don't forget; Righteous Brother, Marty Robbins, Eric Burdon, etc, etc.

  67. C.... P....

Great classic from Jay & The American's , these guy's sang like angles. Today the kids listen to total crap, this is real music.

  68. M.... I....

If Jay had Elvis's good looks.....

  69. d.... a....

Mmmmmmmmm big bird Green whe time

  70. c.... ....

    WHAT A VOICE!!!

  71. J.... P....

The 2000,s are marked by little, insignificant voices that have no merits, vocalistically speaking.Lots of famous names, without God gifted given voices.sad.

  72. J.... P....

Extraordinary and unsual range of a male vocalist voice.Sadly, today, there are not longer those gifted voices around.

  73. G.... V....

Back when it took talent to make it and holy cow, this man had talent.

  74. t.... g....

just an amazing voice. and today??????? where have groups/singers like this gone?

  75. M.... B....

First time I've heard this absolutely love it

  76. g.... ....

I was fortunate enough to see Jay and the Americans in concert in 1967. Jay was just as good live as on record, and The Americans were even better. They were fantastic.

  77. R.... S....

    Great songs never died

  78. J.... V....

    Cool song

  79. M.... W....

Jay Black could really belt them out. But just for the record this is not a real performance. Nearly all music on TV in the '60's was somebody lip-synching to a recording. A lot of it still is, for that matter...

  80. f.... p....

    Lover love love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  81. R.... E....

Jersey shore, summer of '65, when I first heard this on WABC with Cousin Brucie. WHAT A SONG!!! Great lyrics, and it MOVES!!! STILL a great voice, Jay!!

  82. n.... m....

I met this place at random and WOW! What a singer! What a gifted man! I've listened to his song many times. Hope young people could do the same or at least once.

  83. J.... W....

Did I say this is my all times faves by Jay and the Americans ?❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎤💃🏿

  84. J.... F....

Great Ciip and the Shindig Dancers

  85. k.... ....

Jay Black was a terrible diva...........very difficult with a huge ego. It eventually ended with his separation from The Americans, his bandmates. They seem much happier today without Jay Black and with their new "Jay."

  86. P.... D....

    Chills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. L.... E....

    That voice!

  88. S.... S....

My tribute to Jay Black and the Americans! https://youtu.be/PmmK1SkkYRA

  89. K.... H....

Just kids back then playing kick ball, touch football, tag, bow and arrows , lone ranger and caps. Now who whent and stoped that?
    Was great then cartoons, fun.

  90. T.... K....

What a voice! This guy and Freddie Mercury. That would have been a great duet.

    T.... K....

    & Elvis what a trio

  91. s.... ....

I Loved Jay Blacks voice 50 yeas ago and today I feel the same.

  92. J.... H....

Love this song, his singing of "Sunday" is awesome. We're touched with the wonderment of exemplary 60's artists and talents. They were the hurricanes that covet love songs and rage of onslaught of refined music, I'm 71 and missed all of them.

  93. J.... F....

Look on the bright side....today we got bitches, HO's and kill the cops. That summarizes rap for the last 30 years.

  94. S.... ....

Wow! I remember how good this was and is!

  95. J.... ....

    GOT BETTER,AND BETTER!,he had great lungs!😉🐾♥️🐾♥️🐾♥️☘

  96. m.... c....

    Die Stimme....
    🔝🔝🔝
    🎵🎶🎼🎶🎵

  97. g.... s....

After all these years his voice still floors me. Incredible!!!

  98. J.... S....

    Yesssssss! My heart strings

  99. R.... B....

One of the 60s many great singers, without today’s “ assisted “ recordings.
