Jason Isbell - Anxiety Lyrics

Anxiety
How do you always get the best of me?
I'm out here living in a fantasy
I can't enjoy a goddamn thing
Anxiety
Why am I never where I am supposed to be?
Even with my lover sleeping close to me
I'm wide awake and I'm in pain

Watching the sunrise slash through the blinds
Dust in the room hovers over mine
Lying here in silence
Wife and child still sleeping deep enough to dream
And oh, I'm a lucky man today
But so afraid that time will take it all from me

Anxiety
How do you always get the best of me?
I'm out here living in a fantasy
I can't enjoy a goddamn thing
Anxiety
Why am I never where I am supposed to be?
Even with my lover sleeping close to me
I'm wide awake and I'm in pain

It's the weight of the world
But it's nothing at all
Light as a prayer, and then I feel myself fall
You got to give me a minute
Because I'm way down in it
And I can't breathe so I can't speak
I want to be strong and steady, always ready
Now, I feel so small, I feel so weak

Anxiety
How do you always get the best of me?
I'm out here living in a fantasy
I can't enjoy a goddamn thing
Anxiety
Why am I never where I am supposed to be?
Even with my lover sleeping close to me
I'm wide awake and I'm in a pain

A crowded room is a burning battlefield
If I don't move, I'll come undone
My heart beats harder, a hammer striking steel
Will I walk now or be a "Wait and Run"?

Anxiety
How do you always get the best of me?
I'm out here living in a fantasy
I can't enjoy a goddamn thing
Anxiety
Why am I never where I am supposed to be?
Even with my lover sleeping close to me
I'm wide awake and I'm in pain
I'm wide awake and I'm in pain
I'm wide awake and I'm in pain

Jason Isbell Anxiety Comments

So a fella asked me what kind of music I write and I said, "It's sort of Acoustic Country Folk Pop Rock". He said, "Oh, Americana, kinda like Jason Isbell." I said, "Who?" He said, "Seriously?" That was two weeks ago and I can't stop listening to this man's songs. Unbelievable.

  2. S.... S....

    Absolutely genius

  3. r.... ....

The money I would pay to see him do an acoustic solo set! They put on a great show though. One of the best songwriters today

  4. 2.... ....

    Such an incredible performance.

  5. D.... D....

Damn Jason. You got me bro. You got me.

  6. D.... W....

Good to hear someone singing about something none of us like to admit too.

    D.... W....

    Daniel Warton exactly!

  7. Y.... ....

For someone who suffers from mad anxiety to the point where I pay 270$ monthly for a script of Xanax from a friend and love Jason Isbell. This is by far the worst song I’ve ever heard of his and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad one before. So what I’m saying is this song just isn’t good. Still love you Jason and benzos too. Just one mans opinion and the other one a fact.

  8. R.... S....

Stay strong 💪 my brothers and sisters I feel your pain

  9. R.... S....

Whether I think I can or I think I can't I'm right . Been off benzos cold turkey for month now the only thing that's got me thru is sweet Mary .

    R.... S....

It’s been a year since I started my taper. Been off for a few months. Hang in there.

  10. M.... C....

This is my favorite song of all time. This dude deserves a standing ovation and round of applause for addressing a major mental health issue in a beautiful and soul touching way. I've listened to this song a dozen times tonight. I love it.. I've never felt a song this deeply before ❤❤❤

    M.... C....

Maddy Cain I couldn’t agree more with you!!!

  11. M.... ....

This... more than any other song Jason does... does the acoustic version cut so much deeper than the studio version. So good.

  12. D.... ....

I read the Star is Born credits and saw he actually helped on that

  13. J.... G....

"I know I'm a lucky man today but so afraid time will take it all from me"😢

  14. G.... I....

Apropos that he sings this song solo, with just a guitar. It really pares the song to its core meaning... few songs have struck me with such truth. It's as if Jason understands exactly what is going on in my head. Thank you for putting into words what I often struggled to do.

  15. H.... G....

Just goes to show, even though someone can appear to have it all,...even that person can have anxieties, worries, fears, and lay awake thinking about those things. Love this song.

  16. J.... T....

    Best singer-songwriter in Nashville!

    J.... T....

Correct but not a very high bar.

  17. K.... L....

Legend in the making....His last four albums are all masterpieces...hes written 50 brilliant songs...and just getting started.

  18. N.... A....

jason isbell is a great songwriter--but i think i like the lyrics about anxiety a little better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_A5VEuQxbo&start_radio=1&list=RDG_A5VEuQxbo&t=0

  19. R.... S....

Mr Isbell is a master craftsman, a genius, a legend!

    R.... S....

Couldn't have said it better! Thank you so much for watching!

  20. D.... L....

Great song! His description is so powerful. Remember Frances you're not alone.

  21. M.... B....

    Nice!!!!

  22. A.... R....

    My theme song

  23. i.... ....

    My damned theme song.

    i.... ....

    Mine too.

    i.... ....

    Yep and sorry.

    i.... ....

Right there with yeah, brethren. Feel like the world is sitting on my chest.

  24. J.... D....

Truth. Love his music so much.

  25. G.... Y....

Great song, great performance, but almost unwatchable due to the camera shifting every 2 seconds. Makes me dizzy.

  26. T.... U....

A music legend once said . If you have to cuss to sell a song then i aint buying your music.SMH

    T.... U....

    Lol grow up Timmy

    T.... U....

“God damned.” is the cuss you are referring too? Man this is *tame...* take my advice never listen to modern hip-hop

    T.... U....

Tim USA This is coming from a Christian. I don’t like it that much but man there’s bigger fish to fry.

    T.... U....

    f*ck off

    T.... U....

Yeah it would’ve sounded better if he’d said, I can’t enjoy a gosh darn thing.

  27. F.... H....

This song really hits home for me. I’ve been dealing with it for as long as I can remember, and at the age of 16, it’s really tearing its ugly head. I have to fight my own psyche in order to get up in the mornings and drive to class. Those classrooms become, as he said, burning battlefields. It’s terrifying. Some days it’s as small as a ladybug on a bear’s nose. The next day it’s the bear. Unfortunately today it was the bear and it almost snuffed me out

    F.... H....

Hey. Thanks for watching. We all have the bear some days. I felt that way for most of my life but waited till I was 28 and in the hospital to talk to someone. I couldn't believe that just talking to someone every now and then could make me feel so much better and so much more like myself. Feel free to reach out here if you need some resources and good luck with it. We're all fighting the battle.

    F.... H....

I'm sorry to hear that. This might sound trite but i swear by it. Do you meditate 5 mins every day? Do that for 2-3 weeks and you'll feel a subtle shift and maybe you'll do it for 10 mins a day and the difference is subtle but profound. It's helped calm me so much and given me more faith in the universe and that's kind of huge. These are rough times, and that doesn't help. There are as many different ways to meditate as there are people and good phone apps. xo

  28. g.... h....

This song has sampled Angelica - Anathema!!! WTF!!!???

  29. K.... W....

ridiculously good. thank you so much jason isbell.

  30. c.... ....

Y'all check out my buddy Jason's Shoes!!

  31. s.... c....

    Not me! Woops

  32. R.... L....

Hard hitting song but what a magnificent song! jason isbell is a living legend to me

  33. R.... G....

A man at the very top of his game !!..saw him live and he can play acoustic gems like this or rock the place out with his band ..class act

  34. R.... M....

IMHO he has already surpassed all but Neil Young. Like mayer said, Jason lives at a place most songwriters can only hope to visit.

  35. f.... ....

This is one of the most thoughtfully written songs I've ever heard.

  36. M.... M....

True singer/songwriter!! Great performance as usual

  37. J.... U....

I love the 400 unit, but these stripped down versions of the songs with him and a guitar are so, so, so stinking good. I'm not ashamed in the least when I say how thankful I found this mans music years ago. What an amazing song writer and guitar player. I guarantee he will go down in history one day among John Prine, Bob Dylan, and the many other great country and rock and roll song writers.

  38. T.... B....

    Absolute perfection.

  39. B.... P....

Jason Isbell is not only one of the best songwriters of the modern era, but one of the best ever.  Not to mention he freakin' shreds on guitar as well.

  40. K.... H....

Jason is the reigning World Champion Wordsmith !!!
