Jars Of Clay - Hero Lyrics
One spot on an empty canvas
One chair in an empty room
No place for a revolution
No hope if the signs are true
Will we ever know what it is
Hold on 'cause the wind is rising
And we can't get away from it
We're in shock from the failed emotion
No cause in a shadow land
We sing while the city's burning
No room, no escape, no plan
We all never thought it would end this way
To save us from ourselves
We need a hero
To save us from ourselves
Save us from ourselves
Save us from our fear
When the sirens wail, we need a hero here
We hide on our knees in silence
Maybe God doesn't hear at all
And the wait overtakes the violence
And we watch as the giants fall
We're not gonna let it end this way

Amazing
Jars of clay the best band , hero the best music .
is this their latest 2014
I think the line "maybe God doesn't hear at all." is quoting a Christians thoughts that could cause him to turn away from God, later followed by "we need a hero to save us from ourselves" which confirms that it is indeed a thought of paranoia which causes us to separate ourselves from God.
I dig it!
Matthew 12:39 discusses how Jesus told the Pharisees that those who want a sign won't be given it. Faith is what is missing. Unless we have faith that God will answer our prayers, nothing will happen. Not because God doesn't love us, but because we aren't letting him into our lives. That's why he came as a man, a commoner. So we could know him as family. Trust him. Put faith in him. And only then are our prayers answered. Works of great glory come from even the smallest amount of faith.
But when we set it as a goal in our life to daily put God on display and live for His glory then we better believe that He is more than willing to do it. James 4:2,3 says “…You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures…” . Here we can see from scripture that our motives have a huge affect on God answering our prayers.
Or just simply so that life was easier and more enjoyable for myself. It doesn’t matter whether those things seem good or bad on the surface, they were all completely valueless because I was the focus. One thing I learned in my New Testament Survey class was that God will never work through our life and the Holy Spirit will never empower us if our agenda is our agenda. Not if it is going to be our glory and our decisions and us on display.
So I just kept praying and waiting and praying and waiting for God to just make me understand and see truth. It wasn’t until about 2 weeks ago that God began to make things make sense. The first thing God did was He began to show me how focused on myself I was. My purpose behind everything I was doing was me. Either so that I could be seen by others in a positive way or so that I could do right and have God’s favor or favor of man.
God tells us who He is in His word and what He is like and so even though I couldn’t seem to find evidence for it or believe it I just kept begging God that He would just fix my thinking. I kept praying Pslam 119:29 “Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law!” Because I knew something about my thinking had to be wrong because there was no way life in Christ was supposed to be like that. I understand it does get hard sometimes but I just never had any joy. I didn’t love God.
I can relate a lot to you in that. Especially when it comes to the doubt and God not giving any sort of sign. For about 2 years I was struggling really bad and I was miserable and I just wanted to give up because I was confused and it seemed like it would be so much easier and simple to just become agnostic or something. But I never could quite do it because I knew that there had to be something I was misunderstanding or not seeing or something.
"Maybe God doesn't hear at all" is the line in this song that I can identify with. I have become agnostic because after decades of living a devout Christian life I began to doubt whether God heard my constantly unanswered prayers. I never received a sign letting me know he was listening.
I love this song very heroic
This song is just a masterpiece in every way! JOC are just flat good! Thanks for posting!
allah and islam seek control of this world. My Fathers Kingdom is not of this world.
The truth walks and lives, his name is Jeshua Messias, or Jesus the Christ and he does live no matter what. You can't kill the true Word with sinful words. Darkness flees when light appears. Where there is Light darkness can not abide. Just try to bring darkness to a room full of light. It is impossible!
allah is not biblical, and religion is man made. The Lord created all things. The difference is True Christianity is a movement created from God being born of God in the flesh through the perfect birth of Christ which means Savior. The I AM was born of a Virgin birth, not from men who are tainted. You will not find allah in the truth. You will find Christ was the only one who gave perfect blood for all, and then raised himself from the dead. He lives whether you admit it or not.
fuck religion !!!
beautiful music :))
Jars of Clay the best band of Cristian Rock of the world !!!!!!! Caedmon's Call too....
Hilario Marchetti There ok I much prefer Neal Morse
A cada musica, eu gosto cada vez mais dessa banda..
Yes, but the initial response was to someone saying God and Allah are different, which simply isn't true. Both refer to the Abrahamic god. Same dude. Schizophrenic? Maybe. But the same dude.
Just like he was with the Jews, right? And they're the ones that even invented the guy. How ironic.
I don't know where to start on how utterly incorrect you are with your history and facts.I will start with one word and leave you to research and learn yourself. The word is:
Tanakh
You do realise the Bible was written by the Jews and the Christians chopped it, changed it, and rewrote it during the Roman Catholic era, right? Furthermore the Christians had no further prophets or right to fuck around with God's words. Everything about Christianity is borne of Judaism being too windy and narrow a road so people in power decided to fudge it.
Same thing with Islam except they essentially thought the Christians had the wrong guy and took the blaspheme of the words too far.
@saltesc Christianity is a little diff it is salvation through christ... judaism is salvation through good deeds acts and obey every law and commandments on the dime... they became self exalting... noice how christianity is the only religion that has a savior that GIVES you salvation for free and all you have to do is say god i cant be perfect but you are.. i love how the bible has the new testament and old and judiasm has only partial of old andtorahtakesbibleeventshistoryandchangesit
love this song so much!
dudes they say it different in the new testament cuz each book is written to differnt culturesss i would know i study theology and bible all the time 2 hours a day every week since kindergarten
Learn what your authority is, these are the weapons of the Lord given to his people so they would not be lead a stray. The authority to tread down even the Principalities of evil as it says in Ephesians;6. Remember you are children of the CREATOR OF ALL THINGS. You have authority, learn of it.
@saltesc actually, Jehova wasnt really a name for God, Yehweh is Gods name, and the jews took the do not use my name in vain rule so seriously, that they just never said it, so they ended up changing the spelling in the bible, so it would read a little differently when they read it, so that they wouldnt accidentally say it, and throug translations into greek, latin, aramaic, and then english, it became Jehova
God has the power to save us all, but our becoming clean occurs when we repent. This means turning away from OUR WAYS to GOD'S!!! God's command to repent is given to all, and we can prove we follow Christ by being "Doers of the word & not hearers only", is best described by prophets that left Jerusalem anciently & came to the Americas! One righteous King, named Benjamin said in Mosiah 4:19 "For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, [continued on next]
@XxBallerina4ChristxX Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all follow the same God. They are the three Abrahamic religions. You're an idiot if you think otherwise. There's differences, but basically Christians think Christ was the last prophet, Muslims think Muhammad was, and Jews think the last prophet still hasn't arrived. Of all the religions, Muslims follow the word of God (Torah) most accurately. Christians just selections of the New Testament, and Jews just selections of the Old Testament.
@XxBallerina4ChristxX "Allah" is "God" in Arabic. If you went back to the Old and New Testament regions, God would have predominantly been referred to as Allah. Other names for him include Jehova, Yahweh, and Elah.
Also, God didn't get himself killed and rise from the dead, that was a portion of Him, His son. But why a universe creating God requires human sacrifice to abolish sin, who knows? I'll just stick with my theory that he's sick in the head. That at least explains the rest of the Bible.
@alex3804 I have read the Bible twice directly and consistently reviewed passages for over a decade. At one point I was accepted into Bible college. So yes, I have read it. I also thought I had heard/felt God, but I've since grown up and realised that these were false and coincided with perfect explanations I simply didn't know of at the time. The more I got into Christianity, the more I realised it's man-made and the God is a dictating monster out to kill people.
Muito bom!
@BisforBrilliance1
What do I need a hero for? Why do we all need a hero? Humanity is doing a great job at progressively looking after itself seeming God is too busy putting His son's face on cheese toast than saving the world. We get it, some guy and girl I never met from thousands of generations ago shouldn't have eaten that fruit He put there for no reason—can He stop creating us just to kill us and send us to hell?
I came here because I used to listen to these guys and Hard Rain was on TV.
@XxBallerina4ChristxX Are you aware that Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are Abrahamic religions; meaning they all worship the same god? That "Allah" is Arabic for "God"?
Despite all this, all 3 religions have called God many things; Yahweh, Adonai, Jehovah, Allah, Shen, Ottoman, etc. All of them aren't names, they are different words meaning "God" or "The Lord" etc.
But if you think your English take on a middle-eastern religion is 100% right, who am I to care?
@saltesc
aren't you listening?
we all need a hero. not just people who don't have faith EVERYONE we are ALL flawed. i don't want to fight you, i just wanted you to know that.
oh, and one more thing, how did you get to this song? just interested
@ImpartialReality43
i just put your quote on my calendar. i totally agree by the way, i want people to see the good christians DO rather than the talk of how good they say they are. which is bad because so many people (including myself) do the latter.
@gazz12345a for thougth if there is no god then there is no sciences and if is not sciences then there is no god. on realys on the other more then not things that can not be proved or disproved fall in the the unknow to fall in the the realm of god the being of everything that we dont know. that what my take on what you said there.
@iOhBeeCityx :) 'faith is the virture of the absurd' - S. Kierkegaard...Is your theological statement something that is based on a Doctorate in Theology or just a basic high school knowledge, that has more or less developed into assumptions propogated by a Christophobic Western world?
@saltesc i feel really sad about that, to think that you, a christian messenger for God, would talk about God in this blasphemous way. What made you turn from him, in case you haven't realised, if God made it so easy to understand him and believe he was real, he wouldn't be God. God is confusing, hard to grasp, extremely exasperating, yet, thats why he's God isn't it?
@iOhBeeCityx That's sad to hear...I hope that you will find him sometime in the future. I know you would be glad if you did! ^^
@iOhBeeCityx no need for that, he is real, i believe so, and your not changing anything. Please staY out of the argument Tom
GOD IS NOT REAL!!!!!!!!!!!
@saltesc In agreement with my friend, God sent Jesus to die for us so that we didn't have to die. if you remember, God had to destroy the world because the world was filled with people who disrespected him and everyone else. So he flooded the world. Then, becaused he was so sad about destroyin us, he promised not to do it again. So instead, he sent his son to die for us, instead of us dying. Not a ritual, a completion of promise,
@saltesc God made us in the image of him, to know and respect knowledge. As humans we want to know more, when the devil gave us the idea to look and see it looked apealing. He didn't want it to happen, he knew it would, but he didn't want it too. God did see the whole thing coming, so why didn't he not create us. hmmm... because he loved us when we weren't there!
@saltesc Talking snakes? It was the devil, he introduced the idea of our nakedness, God didn't make us susceptible to it, the devil introduced it, and we accepted it. God didn't have a grudge against us, he punished us cause Adam disobeyed him but if he had a grudge against us then he wouldn't come and die for us would he? And in several places in the bible it says that God loves everyone, even sinners. So how can you say it's only about whther we believe in him or not. He loves you either way.
@saltesc thats looking at the tree literally, some people (me included) believe that the tree was a metaphor, a way moses used to make it easier to understand the downfall of man. Your also missing an important part, God created adam innocent, not flawed, It was the devil disguised as a serpent who lead them astray. he lead Eve to Think and see that she was naked and in turn tell adam. The devil made the flaw of humans come into being, not God.
@saltesc but doesn't that mean that God really loved us? He knew that we were going to turn evil and that people like you would flip him off as total rubbish. Did that stop him from creating you or me? No, obviously because we're alive. He loved us so much he created us and then died for us, and yet there are still people like you dissing him, he doesn't care, you are the coin he hasn't found yet, the missing sheep. Recognise that as love.
Jars has always done what they wanted, and the message of God is loud IMO, not insanely "heavy" in the sense that we know it, but it has a loudness about it :) so in response to frosty, I love those songs, but JoC's talent expands beyond those things too!
I edit videos and I'm going to school for video production.
I knew this song was special right when I heard it. I feel God pulling me towards it to make a music video or a movie with this song someday. I just feel him continuing to tell me that THIS is what I need to do. THIS is how I can show the world JESUS, through this song and my video production skills. I'm excited to see where God is going to place me once I start film school......
they became so loud dang! what happened to those mellow soft songs like frail, he, and river constantine? i mean i know they have to change their style to innovate but it doesnt mean they have to go all rockstar about it
This Song is Amazing! :)
Great Song! Cant Wait To See Jesus! Ima Cry Like a Lil Baby!
fantastic song!!! jesus love you....:-)
This song is sacriligious? What are you talking about? The song is very clear that we need a hero (Jesus) to save us from ourselves. For those of you who hate on Jars of Clay please remember that if they went mainstream secular label they would be making millions. They choose to promote Jesus and trust me they take a hit for it in popularity and money.
Love this album :)
@ImpartialReality43 Let me clarify, my words were a little ambiguous. Christians were given their names by outsiders looking into their lives.
@hafpipe No one should classify themselves as a christian. Christians were given their name by people who looked in to their lives and could see that they were following Christ. Therefore the title Christian should not be worn as loosely as it is today. If you are a christian others will see it, there is no need to claim it.
@saltesc But are you not fighting too? Can I ask,.... how did you classify yourself as a Christian. In your opinion, what makes a Christian?
This song is sacrilegious. PERIOD. It has nothing to do with your sucking up remarks such as "Oh, Jars of Clay raises jesus, the savior, holy lord almighty etc..."
look it up.
And a PS, God doesn't make the decision to send us to hell. We choose to believe or not to believe. Hell is seperation from God. If we don't want to be with God, then we won't. Simple as that. The decision is ours, not His. He gave us the choice and we make it for ourselves.
I only argue with ignorance. The thing is, you do have it right when you say we should admire the things around us, that's how I find God. Not through living by a set of rules. Well okay, if there are any rules I live by, it's this: God First, Others Second, and I'm Third.
It's sad because most Christians today make it a whole rules thing that God won't love you if you don't do this and this and this. Which isn't true. God still loves you, even if you don't believe.
I do not care what people say. JARS OF CLAY ROCKS!!!! and their music lifts Jesus up and they love God. CLASS DISMISSED MATE!!!!!! GODS NOT DEAD
wow ur fighting over a chrisan song that is vary sad
I live my life by this order: God First, Others Second, and I'm Third.
So who's the radical and judgemental one here? Have you even been to Kansas at all? Do you know what it's like down here? We know a lot more than you think we do. Are you really dealing with this out of love, because Paul also said that without love things are meaningless (1 Cor. Ch 13) or are you just dealing with things out of spite and bitterness?
Wow taximo, I can't believe you think you have the right to judge anyone. You're not my God, I don't pray to you so I'm just going to ignore that lost souls comment. My wife made the point that it's no use arguing with you, it'll just be a waste if time. She's right.
First off, I never heard them say that. Secondly, just because you disagree with Pat Robertson doesn't mean you're not after God's Glory. To try and put down someone for simply disagreeing is to admit that you yourself are not after God's Glory. "Before you remove the speck from your brother's eye, remove the plank from your own." I'm not saying I'm perfect, but it really just ticks me off when I see christians acting like you are.
taximo, instead of judging and condemning other Christians according to your standards (emphasis on your), why don't you go out and obey what Christ commanded us which is to love God and love eachother. Help someone in need by being a hero in their life. Stop the "holier than thou" stuff, it's annoying.
Save us from ourselves
Save us from our fear
When the sirens wail,
we need a hero here
I think it's talking about how Jesus is a rockin' out hero who we desperately need "to save us from ourselves", and he's the only one who can do it. Jesus' love isn't just a "get well" card, but an actual love that interacts with our daily life, something we need very much. this is just my take though
My interpretation is a bit different. I think the song is saying that we all tend to see that the world is wrong, but we do nothing about it. By doing nothing, we are becoming our own worst enemies. We sit and pray and wonder why God isn't doing anything about it, but if we'd stop taking ourselves so seriously and reach out to make connections beyond ourselves, God could work through us to make a better world. We have a decision: the world is going down-are we going to let it go down this way?
That did not ryhm and you are being mean.
Better than U2 and Coldplay....go Jars of Clay! (hey that ryhmed..XP)
Beautiful song
i love this song! i heard it on radio and i really liked it . so then i went on youtube and found it. its awesome!
What's the meaning behind this song?
jars of clay's sound changes with each album (they're really adventurous!). But I've been listening to them for over 13yrs! and I absolutely love this song
best Jars of Clay album to date!
Agreed; this is a powerful song that describes our lives in times of desperation within our own struggles.
Definitely one of the best this year. I can't get enough of this song!!!
This one is more instrumentally focused than it is lyrically. Take Me Higher from Good Monsters was the same way, and I was one of the few people who liked that song. I do admit, however, that the lyrics in this song are much better than the lyrics for Take Me Higher.
I agree. Two Hands is a good song, but I like this one better.
Oh wow, the music on this song is awesome!!! So cool sounding!!!!!
Great melody, interesting words, and that Jars of Clay sound that keeps me coming back. A bit long, however. More lyrics would have been nice to fill it out.
I love this song!!!
