Jarosz, Sarah - Lost Dog Lyrics
Where did you sleep last night?
Under the cold street light
Who last called you by your name?
Where did you leave your peace?
Why did you run so far away?
Lost dog
Something 'bout you breaks my heart
Why you burying bones out in the yard?
I don't know if I want to know where you've been
Lost dog
Maybe I'll let you in
Something made you stray
Off like a feather in the wind
Where do you find the ground?
Let yourself be found
If I open my door
Make you my friend
Are you gonna run off and get lost again?
Lost dog
Something 'bout you breaks my heart
Why you burying bones out in the yard?
I don't know if I want to know where you've been
Lost dog
Maybe I'll let you in
You don't have to live this way
Hiding from the pouring rain
Running through the hunger and the pain
Lost dog
Something 'bout you breaks my heart
Why you burying bones out in the yard?
I don't know if I want to know where you've been
But lost dog,
Maybe I'll let you in
There's a broken in your eyes and it pulls me in
Will you let anybody get close again

Jarosz, Sarah Lost Dog Comments
Music that elicits such emotion in me! Who among us has never known (or indeed been) such a 'lost dog'?
I think I'm in love again...
Oh man, that voice. I really like that banjo too. Very soulful. Sarah Jarosz knocks me out.
this is my favorite song
Over the weekend this became my new favourite song .. just shared it to the Audio Chocolate page. The lyrics are very open to interpretation. What a gorgeous mix. Sarah's vocals are stunning through the whole album. Guitars remind me of Richard Thompson, hints of Gillian Welch elsewhere.
I think that it is a metaphor for the lost and abandoned. Perhaps the ones that are wounded.
does anyone know the story behind this song?
It seems to me she has struck a chord in many people that loves dogs more over how people can get lost too and lost dog can heal broken hearts
The story behind why I love this song is a long one.
For me, it relates to a person that acted like this lost dog. She'd been dealt a bad hand and had been abused and mistreated so much in her life, so much hurt and pain that she didn't know anything else. Just going on and on in this world, moving through people and places like she'd never known where to be. She found temporary respite, but never felt at home, or understood what everybody had tried to do for her. As far as I know, she still runs around broken and lost to this very day.
She leaves a trail of broken people in her path too.
@RevDogg Or 'he', of course.
Nice upload. Sounds great. Love this lady.
