James Taylor - Sunshine Sunshine Lyrics

Sounds of laughter, here comes sunshine, smiling faces all around.
They possess you, bless you, sunshine, now you can never let them down, I say sunshine.

Sunshine, sunshine, is that a cloud across your smile or did you dream again last night?
It's best you rest inside a while as blue doesn't seem to suit you right.

Things ain't what they used to be, pain and rain and misery.
Illness in the family and sunshine means a lot to me, I say sunshine.

But could it be Sunshine is drifting with midnight and lonely when everyone's gone?
Blue crystal spirits and gardens in moonlight
leave weak alone and bleak all quiet and grey by dawn.

Sunshine, sunshine rising to late to chase the cold and failing to change the frost to dew.
She's trading her mood of yellow gold for frost bitten shades of silver-blue.

Friends and lovers past and gone and no one waiting further on,
I'm running short of things to be and sunshine means quiet a lot to me, I say sunshine.
Sunshine, sunshine...

At 18, when this Apple album came out, I was already playing classical music for money, and had some literary background. The poetic values of the songs were, for me, enhanced by the orchestral enhancements, just as James' vocals are an enhancements of his work with Milton and the other Brazilians. In other words, his creativity finds common ground with all kinds of listeners and colleagues. His is not a narrow art.

I like JT, but Tom Rush did a much better job with this and a few other JT songs.

JT did a nice performance of this at Carnegie Hall in 1974. The concert was released on CD not too long ago by a third party record company. I believe it is still on Amazon.

I know he did not like the heavy Apple accompaniment, but this is my favorite James Taylor album.

It's available again on CD. Still wonderful.

being 20 and never having the oppurtunity to live through this era, I have to say, it's really unfortunate that this album is so overlooked, it makes it hard to find...to be frank I'm enjoying this early apple stuff more than james's later recordings, I guess it's because it's more fresh to my ears than his overplayed 70's hits are. It's interesting to hear strings accompany his voice, he never really want down that path of production again, it gives his music such a peaceful light feel though.

And whoever wrote the string part is a genius! Beautiful and also bittersweet.

Superb song - I used to play play my Mum's records, this being one of them. I remember this song because it is so GOOD! Awesome song.
