James Taylor - So Far Away Lyrics

So far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're just time away

Long ago I reached for you and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
Oh, how I wish I could
But you're so far away

One more song about moving along the highway
Can't say much of anything that's new
If I could only work this life out my way
I'd rather spend it being close to you

But you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're so far away

Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
I sure hope the road don't come to own me
There's so many dreams I've yet to find

But you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're so far away

@turnitback. Lou said nothing about kids having it easy, or having no brains. You are creating straw-men. He said present day music, pushed by the business, is inferior to the music of an earlier era.
You seem intent on saying he shouldn’t present an opinion, but yet you present your own, which includes mischaracterizing Lou’s statement with extraneous stuff.

  4. g.... ....

They were all so young and fresh. Beautiful and talented people from the 70´s in US. I was just 11 and I have learned to play the guitar with James Taylor and sing all those increadible melodies by Carole King, James, Carly Simon, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and I also have learnd good english with all of them, so that I am a brazilian who unfortunately has never been in USA before.

  30. k.... S....

A bit of trivia..Who was the first artist the BEATLES signed under their APPLE label? That would be the great JT (James Taylor)

  31. L.... B....

A beautiful song. Beautifully sung. Made all the more beautiful by Carole's quiet self modesty that, 48 years later, stands in stark contrast to the less talented but more self involved artists of today.

  32. M.... A....

    Nostalgic blues!! Love it!!

  33. S.... R....

This can be a statement for today . Back in the sixties and seventies people were together  even in front of a TV set but now with 100 channels and a TV in each room  and no one has inter action between each other anymore and families are distant in different states . Yeah , We are Far Away .

  34. B.... B....

I have always admired her song writing ability and how they touch chords of our emotions. I have always loved to hear songs sung by the writer.

  35. L.... L....

Love the memories of this music miss the people I shared this wonderful music with ❤️❤️

  36. L.... L....

    I can't play this enough ❤️❤️❤️

  37. B.... V....

God gave her one of the greatest voices of all time. No electronics to make her sound better. Just perfection. I don’t remember 1970 so much as I was only 4 but this song still feel like it’s part of me because my parents listened to it.

  38. E.... M....

Absolute perfection! Find these songs so wonderful!

  39. C.... S....

Buddy told me to buy this record at a second hand shop for 2$. One of the greatest 2$ I've ever spent.

  40. J.... W....

    "So, come on James" Priceless.

  41. H.... T....

    That's deep.

  42. j.... ....

Me and a buddy drink beer and scour youtube for classic rock and roll videos. He is all into Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc...once while we were distracted, his TV loaded a video automatically and it was this one. I didn't reach for the controller and neither did he. I have always been a Carole fan but my buddy, not so much. Midway I look over at him and he is crying.

    j.... ....

    I'll have what he's having.

  43. K.... G....

Amazing! This sign is timeless. They don't make singer songwriters like King and Taylor these days.

  44. n.... ....

When those artsy folks stay away from politics (usually leftist ideology) and stick to their singing and acting, they are great.

  45. H.... L....

    I was there.

  46. C.... S....

It doesn't get any better than Carol and James I'm so glad they were around in my time

  47. S.... M....

Simple song but makes me feel sad. She was a talent.

  48. m.... a....

    Maravilhosa

  49. Z.... ....

You can hear the dedication in her voice, and for it sounding so close to the actual recording is insane. This woman is talented and beautiful. And those little raspy parts you get on the long breaks make this song even better then the original.

  50. B.... R....

Carol Clasp...  She's got a friend. Carols in my mind...

  51. P.... W....

    I love this 😊

  52. G.... B....

    A great song :)

  53. J.... M....

    a match made in heaven

  54. R.... R....

Music that's chicken noodle soup for the soul. So soothing, so deep in every way.

  55. M.... S....

I hope Charles Larkey receives royalties from the albums he’s done with Carole.

  56. g.... ....

Love her voice, class act, and James Taylor~~wow. Such memories, I still have this album on vinyl. I had just started college. Music doesn't get much better than this.

  57. G.... C....

My best friend , since age 6, sent me this today. I miss her so badly, and this song sure takes me back. What a gorgeous song! I'm in tears, so lovely. ( Thank You Dot!) Luv U my SIS.

  58. M.... N....

oh dear....speechless. time flies. Thank you Carol and James

  61. d.... o....

Taylor's a fine songwriter; no argument here. Can't sing worth a shit tho. Sorry.

  62. T.... T....

  65. B.... Y....

thank you people for your stories, am from the Philippines and very happy to read your writings...

  66. J.... C....

Why was there so much great music and great artists from 64-74 ? I wish it was spread out to cover all the lean years.

  67. S.... K....

I wish music was this genuine again !!! Its sad how music turned out nowadays

  68. E.... V....

How amazing they were together, used to play the tapestry album second year college this song took it away

  69. R.... B....

Learning to play the piano, also write music but barely get to lear from the Tapestry for beginners. I really want the Anthology not for beginners. I have less than 2 years and the first year was in high school. My parents did not have a piano. I had to go to the highschool on my free time after work (late finisher due being in foster homes before this eventually 1990 when I finished High school.) I should have finished in 1976. I also was in several choirs. Couldn't remember the music to "It's too late," because the choir most of the time was at churches, very political. The last one wanted me to be in a trio. Soon after I'd gotten pneumonia, I have HIV and survived all of my friends. Some of which enjoyed me doing back ground extras. They would come to my apartment to hear it. I moved out several times and now I live in San Jose, CA. I am working on a song now, my writing skills have to be learned off of a dvd set. I get ideas fast and used tenths to write simple songs. I can learn songs just by listening to them.

It'too late doesn't go as far as the instrumental part. Too bad and had to improvise it. Not nearly as good as the original, but then I'm still learning. Carole has been writing songs since I was born, probably earlier. I have a set of 1958-1964 (I think) either 63 0r64. What does it matter. I have collected everything available she does. Wish I could volunteer with her organization here in san jose. I'm trying to get democrats back into the senate and house as well as president, I know too soon? Trump is already getting donations for the next election so we better get busy. My voice is getting better, but hypothyroidism isn't helping. Going to see a doctor. There are a list of things I need better to live. Yes I am still alive after getting infected in 1983. Working on my world is complicated. I have medicaid they call Meds-Cal.

I would love to go to her next concert. Not to sing but to listen. Yes isn't that the best pleasure in the world. Carole has been writing music since I was born. I can't get enough of her guide to get through things that happen. I really want that Anthology song book. I will save for it. "Carole, you are my life in music." good and bad. You have the power to heal the hurt and sick. I'll be a friend to you too if you want me to.

  70. J.... D....

Where have all the love songs gone?? Hope they come back in style

  71. J.... D....

Popular singer/songwriters just don't do it like this any more.... beautiful!

  72. v.... ....

As fresh today as it was when it came out in 1971. The whole album captivated a whole generation, made even more poignant in the Vietnam War era. We grew up.

  73. A.... L....

    Hiper temazo

  74. V.... N....

Curti muito anos 70, linda canção...voz anasalada de Carol King...charmosa.

  75. D.... 2....

Amazing comments about being present for this gem. Raw talent !

  76. W.... D....

As I approach 50 years old & a father of 3 teenagers, I think you guys got the technology but we had the music & the movies. What happened?

  77. J.... H....

I mean, it is Carole King... and a couple dudes with long hair lounging about.  James Taylor... most overrated American musician ever?

  78. S.... D....

    I miss you T

  79. B.... A....

  82. S.... H....

Ok Mr Beiber write me a song that will define a generation. ...no....thought not.

  83. F.... Y....

Listening to this clearly shows why Taylor Swift totally SUCKS !

  84. j.... ....

I dunno why i keep confusing betn Carly Simon & Carole King. I guessing that its abt their husky voices

  85. T.... t....

    Boom! Perfect.

  86. A.... J....

She looks a bit like Leah Nerini,, kinda weird.

  87. M.... T....

Two of my favorite singer/songwriter/musicians of all time. I'll be 58 years old soon, but this video brings back something young, green, and strong. Thank you High Desert Soul for posting this. The memories float into space, but they don't fade.
