James Taylor - Oh, Susannah Lyrics
Well I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee,
and I'm bound for Louisiana, my own true love for to see.
It did rain all night the day I left, the weather was bone dry.
The sun was so hot I froze myself, Suzanne, don't you go on and cry.
I said, oh, Susannah, now, don't you cry for me,
Well I had myself a dream the other night when everything was still,
I dreamed that I saw my girl Suzanne, she was coming around the hill.
Now, the buckwheat cake was in her mouth, a tear was in her eye.
I said, that I come from Dixie land, Suzanne, don't you break down and cry.
I said, oh, Susannah, now, don't you cry for me,
as I come from Alabama with this banjo on my knee.

James Taylor Oh, Susannah Comments
This was the soundtrack for my 18-19 years in 1970, such a formative time for me.... that song “Fire & Rain” shook me... always such depth in his lyrics....
Eternity exists in this song.

I have loved JT's music since I first heard it when I was about 12 years old (1970) Kind of styled me life after what I thought his songs were about , along with Dylan , travelling, etc. No wonder I am such a f^%$ up...ha ha....Partied with his brother Livingston ....Liv... in Newport in 1991 . Got tossed from the bar and went to another !.....Love James always ! Something wrong with ya if ya don't !
Great tenderness. A very imaginative arrangement that still manages to not only honor the beauty of the song - but at the same time transform it and extend it into something wonderful.
Thank God Paul Mc Cartney advocated for James Taylor and put him on Apple records around 1970.
Just love this guy since 1970.
I sang that song in 2 grande
Did you include the now forbidden second verse? :)
