James - Shine Lyrics

Shot myself, ricochet
Crisis as an opportunity
Curtain call to loud applause
As you fall upon your sword

Wake up in a stranger's bed
Hangover and then some
Can't remember what was said
What's her name or what we've done

Wake up in a stranger's head
This one stresses income
On the rich list born and bred
Blame's attached to every sum

Shot myself, ricochet
Crisis as an opportunity
Loud applause
Revealing the conceal, loser

Shot myself, ricochet
Crisis as an opportunity
Curtain falls to loud applause
The tattoo says it all, "Hope and glory"

Here's to hope and glory

Where is the peace and the whole in a half life?
I can't control my saboteur
Call it my nature, name it addiction
Kiss on the lips will soon turn sour

Innocence lost in the grip of a hand job
After the surge of ecstasy
I'm walking out the door
Hope and glory

Sh, sh, sh, shine like a ghost
Sh, sh, sh, shine to be loved the most
When you're gone
Your songs outlive your story

Sh, sh, sh, shine like a ghost
Sh, sh, sh, shine to be loved the most
When you're gone
Your songs outlive your story

Let it shine, let it shine
When you're gone
Your songs outlive your story

I'm a massive James fan but this album has yet to really appeal to me. Maybe it's just me but a bloke nearly 60 years of age singing about hand jobs (in this song) and hard ons (in the song Hero) comes across a bit cringey and unnecessary. I'll keep listening to it but I'm pretty sure this album is nowhere near the same quality of Millionaires, Laid and Stutter (to name a few). It's also inferior to Hey Ma in my opinion.

+SiLatics56 - I get your point about some of the lyrics, but the actual song is a belter in my opinion - I'd say one of the best on the album, and in their top 20 of all time. Lyrics have never really bothered me that much compared to the music, but I know for plenty of people lyrics are more important than sound of the song, so horses for courses & all that.

Yeah I get you totally. I just might be going off them slightly even though over the years they have probably been my favourite band. Have spells where I get into certain bands and then go off them, only to go crazy about them again at a later time. Right now I'm back into the excellent Faith No More and other bands associated with their amazing singer Mike Patton. Not exactly the same type of music as James but still quality stuff!
