James - Of Monsters & Heroes & Men Lyrics
Stray cats with fish heads, feeding their litters
Feral kids fight over rats, tailed from gutters
Bookie mouth brokers, rotten fruit sellers
Pickpockets, ghost through the crowd
Toothless and gray haired, thousand yard stare
He had a vision which broke the receiver
Receiving transmission, surface to air
Either way, I'm in awe of you
Either way, we'll survive
Conjuring devils, angels and demons
Only the children see shape to his tone
Laughing and crying, his song fell upon us
Arms held aloft, away to the sky
Innocent witness, he testified
Drained of his purpose, he falls off the quayside
Absorbed by the ocean, rolled by the tide
Either way, I'm in awe of you
Either way, we'll survive
Either way, I'm in awe of you
Either way, we'll survive, we'll survive
Under the power lines which crackle and sparkle
Under the freeway, now, mostly rubble
The hungry still gather to fill up with stories
Of monsters and heroes and men
Under the stars, which prick us and call us
Connect us to hope that perfection's within
Is here on the ground, we're reckless and hopeless
Damned by the slip of a pen
Rambling poets, manic with vision
We are the drivers, yet we feel driven
Moths in the moonlight, fooled by a flashlight
Caught in a jam jar, gasping for air
Rambling poets, manic with vision
We are the drivers, yet we feel driven
Moths in the moonlight, fooled by a flashlight
Caught in a jam jar, gasping for air
Rambling poets, manic with vision
We are the drivers, yet we feel driven
Moths in the moonlight, fooled by a flashlight
Caught in a jam jar, gasping for air
Rambling poets, manic with vision
We are the drivers, yet we feel driven
Moths in the moonlight, fooled by a flashlight
Caught in a jam jar, gasping for air
Either way, I'm in awe of you
Either way, we'll survive, we'll survive

Me too and for evermore
2019 still my favourite
band
On an album that doesn't have a bad track on it, this song (along with Waterfall) is a standout - absolutely awesome song. I can listen to this over and over
1 word! James! :)
Stray cats with fish heads, feeding their litters
Feral kids fight over rats, tailed from gutters
Bookie mouth brokers, rotten fruit sellers
Pickpockets, ghost through the crowd
He climbs onto boxes by market stall traders
Toothless and gray haired, thousand yard stare
He had a vision which broke the receiver
Receiving transmission, surface to air
Either way, I'm in awe of you
Either way, we'll survive
Conjuring devils, angels and demons
Only the children see shape to his tone
Laughing and crying, his song fell upon us
We buried his treasure along with his bones
Arms held aloft, away to the sky
Innocent witness, he testified
Drained of his purpose, he falls off the quayside
Absorbed by the ocean, rolled by the tide
Either way, I'm in awe of you

Amazing song.....
Just Awesome!
TOP BAND,TOP VOCALIST,ALWAYS HAVE BEEN.LISTEN FROM DAY ONE AND YOU WILL FIND OUT WHY.
it seems to be the James songs. I hope its fixed soon :)
:(
I just saw that it is also unavailable for my own country too, even if i uploaded it from here.
this must be recent..... :/
what do you mean not availablein my country!? I'm from Wales! James is based in Britain!
Im going to bombard my 18 mth yr old daughter with James as she gets older. Im so scared that Music like this will just pass and fade away after this generation. How many of you James fans are singular in your love as no one around you has the devotion and understanding to get these songs apart from our own souls, You are so lucky if you know someone who knows these songs and loves them the same as you!
Down with that plan, min. I will do the same with my own wee girl!
I discovered James through this song two years back..and honestly, I will be listening to them like an addict till I die..once a JAMES fan , it is forever
As long as we exist..James would never fade away..
I too truly discovered them around 2 years ago and listened to them exclusively every day for the next year - like you, they became my addiction. I still listen to them now and totally love them, but I have managed to reintroduce other music into my aural diet again - Superb band
Gareth Lane James are a class act and I'm off to see them live tonight in Scarborough. Some bands are too good to fade away.
I came to this by accident while looking up songs by Of Monsters and Men.
I'm so glad I did.
My friend comitted the same error years ago. Now, I am here talking to you.
@Eyeofsauron2006 Can't say I really see the connection between McCarthy's novel and this song, that having been said inspiration doen't necessarily mean they have to be similar. It makes sense anyway that such a great song was inspired by an equally great novel.
Aah the wonderful sound of James, listening to this band would be likened to someone pouring sweet honey into my ears. Not sure what makes their sound so great to connect with, but whether its the lyrics or the music, either way James.... I'M IN AWE OF YOU!!!!!!
thanks for that i will check the book out, kind regards, they really have wrote some fine lyrics over the years and in my view the newer stuff is a lot deeper in thought.
@2leighthurlow Tim Booth got the inspiration to write the lyrics for this song from reading a book called "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It's a good book, worth reading.
can someone tell me who this song is about? one of my fav james tracks, i saw them live in dec 2010 but they did nt play it. . thus we didnt get booth s normally tellin us wot the song is about. anybody?
i love this song, uses a lot of instruments perfectly..best being booths voice! 'he buried his tresure, along with his bones' class!
