If you grew up in the '80s, then you were brought during a time when true artist composed good music. James Ingram was the standard! His voice was the rarest of any voice that has ever been heard in this life. As a kid growing up in Boston I was blessed to have parents who had good taste. Their collection included the voices of so many artists, including James Ingram. I'm so glad that taste also spilled over into music. When I first heard this song I was driving, August 26,1998. I liked it so much until I had to pull over. The man as usual hit every note with regards to his voice. It was like magic. Now in the year of his death, Give Me Forever was one of the songs played at my wedding. Thank You for the years and the many good memories of your songs.

Musicianship and performance of this quality is mainly LOST on the artists of today.

Yea, ballads like this come off from powerful vocals and authentic songwriting since the 90's had some real struggle therefore creating profound creativity. Today's world has its comfort which makes most artists rely too much on their producers, so we get recycled tunes more than true music. Even so, the emotional ones today come across as too wimpy and defeatist. Do you even listen to Ed Sheeran's new stuff? Jaysus, it's depressing stuff. Somebody just end his life. Like sentimental ballads then has its minor progression but all tend to integrate some pride to it. Mostly, the use of grand piano is what made it rich.

I love this song, and the ending where James makes John jump always gives me a chuckle.
