James Gang - Take A Look Around Lyrics
You will never see me
Walking round feeling low
You will never hear, there
Goes a man who doesn't know
Too many things to do
Too many words to talk
Moments too few
I don't think you know, though
You've been told a million times
It's not clear to see unless
You read in between the lines
Look out your window
Nothing's for certain
It's just a part
If you're feeling low, no
And your world comes tumbling down
If you see hard times, stop
Better take a look around
Good things must end
They never last
Look to tomorrow
Forget the past

James Gang Take A Look Around Comments
Hey Dale! Love your band.
I bought this album when I came back from Nam and was discharged from the Army. I listened to this over and over in my room,.....it still lingers in my memory all these years later. Another life time ago for sure.
Seen these guys at the Ohio state Fair in 68. My first concert ever, they put on a great show.
In the 60’s I used to go to the Mentor Hullabaloo to see the James Gang, a local favorite
Around 1972, (age 16), this album had an enduring/profound effect upon myself & close friends; Andrew, Kevin, Marc, Greg..
I was a sophomore in high school when I first heard this album. My family had just moved to a city where I knew no one, and had NO friends. I bought a guitar and proceeded to learn every song on this record. I have been a successful musician ever since, to this day. Joe saved me and I don’t know how to thank him. God bless you Joe!
First heard this in'69 in Minneapolis on KQRS....fell in love with this band and still listen 50 years later!
Joe Walsh was awesome!
THANKS FOR THE FLASHBACK IM 16 TRIPPING BALLS AT AUSTIN HIGH , ♦️♥️♦️ FOREVER REYBANN
iam so glad my name is james. and yes life has been good awesome
Wonderful group and Joe Walsh a Wizard of musicology!
My fave James Gang song, but I don't think they played it in late 60's or early 70's (?) Syria Mosque opening up for The Who (?) when I was introduce to them.
Gareth Ridout I AGREE! Great tune!
How these guys were able to put this music together is pure magic!
Jim Fox was an awesome musician and Joe was smart to hook up with him
I love this track, and love how Townshend developed the 'Pure and Easy'/one spiritual note idea on its central motif and openly credited it back in the day. He and Walsh were great friends.
One of my first experiences with a stereo LP, Beatles not withstanding. With headphones you hear the music travel from left to right speakers and back. A real eye opener for me in 1970. The next year I got drafted! Also like their cover of Bluebird (Buffalo Springfield) and Lost Woman, an awesome track, wow! A great LP, Yer' Album.
Top that Eric Clapton if you think u can !
One of the BEST Guitar solo's ever invented in our small tiny world !
You can hear where tame impala got there influences from! Brilliant.
Thanks, masterpiece, please more views
my anthem ,i was 18 when this came out
Thanks, special song, guitar, öike the man and the group
Follow up with Pete Townshend - Pure and Easy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_IT2JqX7jw
Thanks very good song and solo nice
Love Joe Walsh's piercing tenor in Take a Look Around. Talent.
God ....this tune is getting me into a state of euphoria and my body is tinglingling
Heaven-sent 😍
Unmistakenly Joe Walsh 💗🎶👍😘
Tasteful drumming, love it as a drummer myself !
It still amazes me how overlooked this album has and always has been overlooked. A masterclass in rock guitar tones. Not to mention rock drumming and bass guitar. Yes this is from Yer Album first James Gang with Joe Walsh and master production by Bill Szymczyk . It has been re-released on CD for many years now. The album was famous for the end of side B as it would say turn me over play me again in the last groove of the LP. Amazing LP!!
these james gang songs just blew you away back in the day
Great lp. 💗
Joe has been so good in so many venues for so long ! He is a hero and the greatest !
The Lyrics to enjoy singing along with Joe & Co.

I remember seeing them on Water Street in Kent,Ohio back in the day
Cynthia Powers - JB's, I was there also. I never missed a chance to catch James Gang. I split my time between JB's and the Kove to see 15-60-75 (numbers band). Numbers Band is still playing around town occasionally.
got the album,real head music
Hey Quentin. It sounds more like mopeing round feeling low
P.S. If you want a good treat, Joe released a Box Album / CD "Look What I've Done"!
It cover's Best ~ James Gang, Solo with Barnstorm & Even stuff he wrote with The Eagle's before the long Vacation. When the Eagle's returned, the terms were they had to all be Clean & Sober. 😎
Growing up in Ohio, I use to catch them @ club's & BoB multiple band concerts.
I met Joe when I was Seventeen @ a backyard BBQ. Him & Joe Vitale & a few other's partying & jammin a bit. Right before he went Solo & was putting Barnstorm together.
I'm pleased he's clean & sober now. Based on the era we grew up in, Booze & Drugs were just part of life. 60s, 70s, 80s. He got clean the same year I did, around 1990. 😎♪♪♥♪♪
the bike photo with the snow on the ground inspired my drunk ass one time that it was cool to ride in the winter. did i say i was drunk at the time? well, its definitely NOT cool to ride a bike drunk in the winter, even if it WAS just around the block and back. worst ride of my life. but i had fun, i think
Take a Look around & Tend my Garden............ amd so many others
Saw James gang at (of all places ) Carnegie hall!!! WOW. Big guitar intro into Funk 49 to start the show....fantastic drummer and of course , the bass player and JOE WALSH!!! The EAGLES got lucky when they picked Joe up for their band..
you can't be done Dunnes. in California
the song really makes you think about a lot of things don't it! 😎
No question why I've played this on my keyboard year after year for the last....what year is this?
when actually playing an instrument was a thing.
Would love to see Joe playing the keyboards. Just saw him in Cincy. Great show.
Look around. Accept the joy that lingers in your presence. I love this song... :)
Wonderin if I`m just an old fart stuck in a timewarp ...or is this Gang song really as good as I thought it was way back early 70`s. Fuck they had some good stuff. My fave `s Midnight Man. Almost 3 mins of seamless unsurpassable sponge bob rock
Bill, apparently you still recognize a fantastically optimistic song!
i believe this cut came from the james gang album prior to "rides again",i had it, the name escapes me...i love this cut nevertheless...the "gang" ,creedence clearwater&csny were the best American bands imho ,in the face of all the excellence from the brits at the time , including the jimi Hendrix experiance (brit band also), many thanks lynn dorton &you tube
+william “thegodfatherofgraffitti” tilton - This is from their first album titled Yer Album. I still have the album.
Yer Album is the name of it, it was their 1st
Love Yer Album more than I can possibly describe.....& this outstanding song is definitely one of the top highlights off of it......
They"re Best along with "Tend my Garden"
+MrTonyCola Tend my garden is phenomenal
@stonelove919 You can say that again !!!!!!!
Love this song. Feel a bit of psychedelic touch of Pink Floyd. Did Pink Floyd influence Joe on this song, or did Joe influence Pink Floyd? That is the question.
Actually I think this sounds a lot like Pete Townshends Pure & Easy but not too sure who came first (pun intended)
ok, as far as public release went, this preceded Pete's Who Came First album by about 3 years
BINGO! Yes! I was trying to remember where I'd heard that organ riff before. "Pure and Easy" is it.
!969...Wow! This song put a smile on my face and re-charged my heart. I've had the blues all summer. Couldn't figure why.?Just came to me while I listened to that sweet melody over that chord progression on the leslied organ . I was missing the music. The Real Music. Timeless!Thks.
A gem of gems. How does it get get better than this? Bought this album in 1970. An unquestionable classic.
Me too, a high school senior; my first song I heard by The James Gang. Haven't heard this in 45 years, but I still have the LP in great condition.
One of the COOLEST songs ever! thanx for posting......
Great Joe-Tune,but hey: he's the best, great joker and a 'serious folk' Hope he stays around a long time:Love his lyrics, compositions, and guitar-playing and of course his mesmerizing voice: Joe forever: maybe for President?
Perfection!
Who plays the organ on this?
@burnlastsunday Joe Walsh.
and piano
Spring of 69...My friends and I were 16, and this was just a part of the cool stuff that was happening...
People with manual turntables...and this on vinyl...
when it got stuck in the last groove, there was a hidden "turn me over, turn em over'
Side Two's last grooves had "play me again, play me again..." there's an actual disclaimer on the cover ...and it still is printed , even on the CD..to not "tell your friends with automatic turntables, as they will break them trying to hear it"...
Me too, 16 in 69! Coolest song ever.
Joe Walsh for president!
I agree Clyde

Fabulous James Gang
Read the lyrics. Listen to the song. Then go to a parking lot and play this at maximum volume. In my humble opinion.
Incredible song. Thanks for posting.
saw them in Asbury parks sunshine inn 1970 stopped playin the drums and began my guitar internship
This song defines confidence to me.
Great song from "Yer Album" - still have it, still throw it on the ol' turntable now and then. Thanks!
GRANDE MÚSICA, ÓTIMA....TIVE ESSE LP..MUITO BOM,EXCETO A FUNK 48,
@mellotronage cool story, had missed that one!!!!
Discovered these guys when I was about 16 in 1980. I spent that year learning the guitar parts from anything Joe did. Hugely underrated guitarist and one of the best power trios of all time!
Even though I no longer have them, I can still see my KLH 17 speakers bouncing to this. Hands down, no question, "Yer' Album" is the greatest album of all time.
I was senior high school .Take a look around mezerized me too no end wonders if my meds helped it that point .....lol
Me too, the best class ever 1970!
I reckon Robbie Shakespeare got his bass reverb and quick fingers from Dale!
.....is there a bad group or song with joe walsh on it? nope
a true masterpiece
Luv ya Joe
What an awesome group and this was my favorite of theirs. Exceptional guitar by Joe Walsh and great work by his side men. Truly ahead of their time.
the best!
James Gang was absolute masterful.....Funk # 49 also still amazes me to this day.
Ypsilanti, Michigan. I went to EMU when they were the Hurons. Those days are black and white memories in the corners of my mind now. Like all good Michiganders, I hate ohio. But the James Gang is okay in my book.
"Good things must end, They never last, Look to tomorrow, Forget the past." Never! I wish I have a time machine. YouTube is the closest thing to a time machine, it puts me there mentally.
I hear you. We had no idea how good we had it at the time.
I heard this yesterday morning on XM Deep Tracks and it was in my head all day long,,,
What an excellent song...
Yeah Lynn, those were the days. Lately I have been reliving them when I copped some medicinal weed and listening to these old tunes.
yeah to cool right!!! my first purchase was on an 8 track, don't remember the price. It was "Thirds"and i wore it completely out in a couple months. Dude i so miss those days
And to think I bought the JG's first album back in 1971 from the bargain bin at a drug store in Ypsilanti, Michigan for 99 cents.
Horaay! Someone put it back !!!
