James Gang - Bluebird Lyrics

Listen to my bluebird sing
She can't tell you why
Deep within her heart, you see
She knows I must cry
Yeah, cry

If she sits, a lofty perch
Strangest color blue
Flying is forgotten now
She just thinks of you
Yeah you

So, get all those blues
Must be a thousand hues
And each is differently used
You just know

You sit there mes-o-merized
By the depth of her eyes
Can't be categorized

She got soul
She got soul
She got soul
She got soul

Do you think she loves you?
Do you think at all?

Soon she's going to fly away
Worries of her own
Find herself another day
And go home, go home

  6. L.... B....

1969, the Gang opened for Steppenwolf. This song was the high point of the set - never heard a power trio so spiritual. Welsh volume pedal work was right ON!

    L.... B....

Larry Beckham I very much agree. I now love this version better than the original. Monstrous!

  7. M.... H....

My very 1st concert was the James gang. Saw them when they were doing the tour for their thirds album. One of my best concerts to this day. And I'm 61 so that was a long time ago

  8. M.... H....

Best version of this song. That's just my opinion

  9. L.... E....

It was around 1967....Cleveland, Ohio teen center battle of the bands....winner got 1 album to record and the first small tour....my band "Motion" (horn band w/3 singers doing soul music) came in 2nd....Winner was - The James Gang!

  10. M.... J....

I generally don't like bands doing "cover" songs. They frequently f___ it up. There are some good ones, South Side Johnny's Walk Away Renee, Lissie doing Dreams and this excellent cover of the Buffalo Springfield cut, Bluebird. This James Gang album was released a year prior to my being drafted. Liked it then and still like it now. On a quality hifi system with good stereo separation and imaging, WOW! Joints and brews sold separately.

    M.... J....

not to mention headphone listening while on mescaline!

    M.... J....

@Larry Eisenberg, this is an excellent LP for headphone listening. I tried mesc for the first time in 1969 at Woodstock.

    M.... J....

Heard Poco do Steely Dan's 'Dallas'?

  11. M.... K....

TRUTH IS that the JAMES GANG Were Great 👍 AMERICANS UNIFYING AGAINST LYING DISHONEST NIXON!

  14. T.... ....

I prefer the Buffalo Springfield version, gotta stick with the original on this, this version is too slow paced.

    T.... ....

    I disagree.

    T.... ....

Agree. JG show absolutely no skill on this, and I was a fan back then! A lot of noise.

  15. M.... R....

    My nuts itch

  16. A.... A....

    Sick drumming ✌️😉

  17. r.... ....

What a pleasant surprise. All these years and I've never heard this version before.

  20. M.... P....

I like this version better than buffalo Springfield's.

  21. y.... y....

    sweet stills and walsh together!

  22. J.... K....

You notice the weirdest little things about bands that makes you instantly realize its them, with James Gang,it's that hi-hat lift he does..sooo sick!

    J.... K....

JImmy Fox was the man driving that band

  23. f.... ....

Not the best on the album, but this and the whole album cinches it for me that The James Gang was the best rock band in the U.S. in 1969 & '70. Well, maybe Hendrix's various lineups would beat them. Joe Walsh had taste.

    f.... ....

I think this version of Blue Bird is the best one. I like it better than the Buffalo Springfield version. That's just my opinion.

    f.... ....

To me it's not who's better it's just another way of listening to it! Imo

  24. L.... B....

So magic in 1969 - one evening I saw this song by these folk in Ft. Worth opening up for Steppenwolf and the "Monster" tour. YOOZZZZWIIIEEEE! I never heard a volume pedal on guitar before. It was orchestral and celestial.

  25. J.... M....

love the Fillmore West 1970 version too.....hard to get that on youtube.

  26. r.... ....

I like this version much better than the Buffalo Springfield version!

    r.... ....

have you heard bonnie raitt's? so beautiful.

  27. D.... W....

Tom Kriss is a criminally underknown bass guitarist.

    D.... W....

    Agreed. An effin' CLASSIC...the best.

    D.... W....

Criminal Negligence punishable by getting no more reefers.

    D.... W....

Couldn'ta said it betta. Great sound from his amp, too. I think he used a Fender rig with everything turned all the way up.

  28. r.... j....

this song, as well as the whole album,  is a tribute to the great bass player that was tom kriss.

  29. R.... B....

A cover of Steven Stills .....

    R.... B....

As for the song, I grew up listening to Walsh & The James Gang. Since were a Ohio Band, I saw them live more then any other in my youth. And Joe really kicks this song out on a live version. But it's hard to locate live music from them that is High Quality on YouTube. Joe, always had his way in turning a 6minute song into a 12 minute song live. Ty for the share @Robert Broderson I have this version with a better remix in Joe's Box Set. Which includes all his music with James Gang, Barnstorm, Solo, Eagle's & another Ohio Artist, Michael Stanley. They were close friends & worked together on Michaels first Solo Album, pre Michael Stanley Band or MSB.
The Box Set, if you can locate it is "Look At What I've Done" By Joe Walsh.
I'm planning on uploading the whole set, once I figure YouTube & My Laptop Out.
I want it to be for both Smartphones/Tablets & Computer's.

    R.... B....

    @Jerry Robinson Namaste!!!! My Friend

    R.... B....

    @Robert Broderson Namaste' Pi'Elo' Robert.

    R.... B....

    @Robert Broderson

    R.... B....

A cover of Buffalo Springfield......to be exact.....

  30. B.... B....

Rock - as Good as it gets!   Excellent post - Thanks!

  31. H.... F....

    JOE  WALSH ARRASANDO....EXCELENTE !!!!!!!!

  32. B.... A....

This album changed everything for me as a 15 year old bassist. I lost a lot of interest in how 'hard' rock could be when this song got to 4:49......the most expressive guitar lick I had ever heard. At 5:19....4 notes....I melted.

    B.... A....

Yes sir. Joe Walsh is still my favorite guitarist too. This was my favorite song by the JG but then came "The Bomber Medley"....

    B.... A....

+Bernard Allan This was actually originally by Stephen Stills when he was in Buffalo Springfield. Listen to it sometime, although I must this is my first time hearing this one and I like it more.

  33. M.... ....
