I was lucky enough to see him in the mid sixties my mother made my older sisters take me to the Uptown Theatre in Philly. All the great acts came there I got to see do many great artists back then.

My boyfriend,Clarence, introduced me to James Brown when he came out of the military in 1963. I loved the song, Try Me, but had never seen the artist. So one night he took me to the municipal auditorium in New Orleans to see him. We never missed another show when he came to town. If I'm not mistaken I think it was $3.00 to get in.

When we went to the 1810 we have WVFW in Brentwood we would always request this song for one of our slow songs usually change run the voice isn't the same as some of the other songs he's really romantic on this one

It took me a while to transition to strings after being groomed on Try Me, Night Train, Good Good Lovin'.....but I graduated.

It was co-written and first recorded by singer-bandleader Russ Columbo in 1931.  It hit the top 10 on Billboard first by Billy Eckstine in 1945 (#10) and then by Perry Como (#1) and the Ink Spots (#9) both in 1946, before becoming James Brown's first pop top 20 hit in 1963.

@vp81955 I can't find an awful lot of versions. The ones I do find are all pretty dull, and much like Russ Columbo's original. Nothing that I've heard yet compares to any of James Brown's versions. Nothing. No-one else sounds like they mean it. they are just singing the words. Even Lena Horne. JB sounds like he means it. Like he has been seriously affected this way.
