it's interesting how the opening 'hits' could be interpreted as a reference to whipping during slavery, what with the cart and field pictured on the album cover. this song could have been a hit but he had it buttered.

That's at least a 6 piece brass section. Horns is letting you ride out. Baseline and guitar dripping in soul juice. James couldn't help but stay blessed and sucker free.

    k.... ....

+knyce i heard an interview on the radio where the DJ asked if he was mad because so many sampled and he replied"No, I'm happy to be remembered. Let em take what they want..." What a truly altruistic move. Love him still...

    k.... ....

+knyce So true! If it wasn't for James Brown Hip-Hop might not have exited.

    k.... ....

@Charles 91771 I'm pretty sure it never would have. Glad to see I'm not the only one who realizes that! His late 70's stuff is probably the earliest form of hip hop out there which spawned so many others. If it wasn't for James, the other heavily sampled band Parliament/Funkadelic wouldn't have existed either so I'm sure it would've never happened. I've read somewhere that the Isley Brothers are the most sampled band in history and I have to respectfully disagree. Just Funky Drummer alone has over 1,000 samples.

  44. C.... B....

    Awesome !

  45. B.... ....

  60. G.... M....

Thanks so much for posting !

  61. R.... M....

THE FUNKIEST MAN TO EVER LIVE!

  62. L.... J....

The Godfather ladies and gentlemen. Most underrated artist of all time.

    L.... J....

@Cockney Red Maybe not in your generation. But my generation (under 25) is useless when it comes to James Brown. They don't know a single song except for maybe Its a Mans World. Pathetic.

    L.... J....

@***** Elvis is the king of music. MJ is not even in the same league as Elvis, James Brown or The Beatles. Fuck outta here. James Brown is two worlds ahead of MJ. MJ was a good dancer but that's it. His music he only had like 5 good dance songs, the rest is a garbage catalogue.

    L.... J....

@***** Elvis has 114 top 40 hits, Michael doesn't even have 40. Elvis is the highest selling solo artist in history. Elvis, James Brown and the Beatles are much better musically than MJ. MJ was pop music, just shit for kids and mainstream to listen to.

    L.... J....

@***** lmao, Elvis and the Beatles are garbage... okay then. Have a good day. Elvis and The Beatles together have beaten the records held by every person you just said together. Elvis and The Beatles were movements in the 50s and 60s. They are the highest selling acts of all time and nobody has come close to their records.

Michael has won more awards because most of those awards did not exist in Elvis' and the Beatles' time.

Elvis, James Brown and The Beatles are in their own league. Nobody is even on their level.

    L.... J....

+Little Jimmy Scumbag I totally agree! JB doesn't get enough credit. I can't of any other artist who has been a major influence on the biggest musical talents & genres. This man wan an influence on Mick Jagger, Prince, MJ, early Hip-hop culture, etc & he never got mentioned among the greats.

  63. A.... ....

    Al Sharpton's ol' fatass

  64. K.... F....

    that guitar...owweee

  65. y.... ....

Is it just me or is James Brown one of the worlds most influential motivational speaker?

    y.... ....

@yuccablossoms Is it just me or is James Brown one of the worlds' most unintelligible,  nonsensical speakers?

    y.... ....

+Buckeyecat2002 it's just you, go play wallflower while the rest of us get on down with our bad selves

    y.... ....

He was a businessman, that's for sure.

    y.... ....

    It's just you.

    y.... ....

Definitely one of the best singin and best dancin Mutha Fucka you've ever seen! Lol one of my top 5 ever along with Jimmy McGriff, Curtis Mayfield, BB King and Fela Kuti!

  66. G.... j....

    思わず踊りたくなるようなサウンド!
    Yes! Good job!
    Awesome!

  77. M.... H....

NO ONE OVER YOU GODFATHER OF SOOOOOOOOOOOOOUL

    RIP MR.DYNAMITE

  78. F.... N....

respect real rapping please! Because real hip hop's been insprited by JBrown's music and we hip hop lover love JB music too!

  79. F.... P....

Jazz piano and latin jazz percussion on a funky jam! Luv it!!

  80. R.... W....

That's it man, sweep there legs out from under them..........your right again. the sound they use to make there hits are all robbed from other songs. Nothing Original. Take this song and play it for ANYBODY that has not heard it. Watch them start shaking booty and gettin down with their bad funky self. You could'nt stop yourself if you tried.....Eeeeeeeeeeeeoooooow, good god. Here I go.

  81. K.... ....

Amen brother! I hear ya passion! Swing into the gut lol! Can we sample that shit?! Ha ha! These are timeless classics. I don't mean they don't sound old, they do. But it doesn't matter what time you live in.. they never loose their effect. That my man is power! The garbage being mass-manufactured today sounds old & dated the moment it gets released! Because it follows a suit that don't allow for no creative flare man! Take this track for example. 6+ mins long. That would NEVER go down today bro

  82. R.... W....

One good swing into the gut and he doubles over in pain. I'm with ya on this one brother, and really now....think about it. Its history, how they portray themselves and the simple noise in repetitive manner. Degenerate crap. I know its been 30 years plus, but give it time to morph itself into oblivion.

  83. R.... W....

I could live with out some of the clothes. Don't miss that way dressing at all..................Unless everyone dresses like huggy bear.

  84. T.... ....

    Indeed!!!

  85. k.... ....

    That's right !

  86. K.... ....

Rap is SHIT compared to soul. It's an easy way out for people who can't sing, macho gangster wannabes who haven't the balls to express anything but ego, those who have no musical background outside hitting pads, morons who are at a loss without farts of bass booming to create power, talentless kids who don't know how to give verbal gestures without imitating 50cent fake "ha ha ha" & typical laid back "uh.. yeah.." which has become comically overused now. I think Rap needs to die now. Thank you!

  87. D.... H....

He had the body weight of Elvis Presley (70s Elvis) and could seriously dance and jump about

  88. T.... O....

lol There is plenty of good rap music. There are good examples of any kind of music.

  89. b.... ....

That's funny because if you actually listen close enough to some of "this rap stuff" it samples the 70's music

  90. S.... ....

and now I can dance like James Brown.

  91. J.... R....

rap is no the problem, cause rap nowadays is not raop!

  92. S.... S....

Awwwwwww damn, you are so RIGHT!!!! My bad, my bad!!!! Thank you so much for puttin me IN CHECK!!!

  93. s.... ....

    so funky it stinks.

    s.... ....

    sayyes2bull, don't you mean stanks?!

  94. M.... G....

James Brown is the pioneer of Hip Hop, a perfect blend of hip hop with funk in it's purest form would be amazing

  95. u.... ....

me too, and .... GOD WHAT A TRACK!

  96. C.... S....

The rap stuff is a humble tribute to this music nigga
