James Blake - Vincent Lyrics

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in a violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night
You took your life, as lovers often do
But I could've told you, Vincent
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you

Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn on the bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will

I found out that everyone died yesterday and I heard this song and it reminded me of when I found out everybody had died and I swear to god I cried finally. Thank you and god bless all the time you spent in your bedroom beating off and making haunting bedroom music in which Beyoncé found a space to believe in Frank Ocean’s Vernon.

  10. P.... H....

I fell in love with Lianna la Havas version and this just as magical🥺😭😭❤️

  11. P.... H....

  14. S.... D....

.. big James Blake fan and Don McLean fan. was so excited to hear this as both such honest performers but iI ove the journey the original takes you on an James just gets there too soon, like after the first verse. Save it. Structure is a bit wobbly here. Please record it again in the right order x You guys are amazing

Le dedico esta canción a mi perro Duke que ayer partió al cielo de los perros a sus 15 años. Has sido el mejor de todos los buenos chicos. Espero que estes moviendo tu colita donde sea que te encuentres.

  27. R.... M....

Don McLean is too good for this world

  28. W.... ....

Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who is the biggest fan of the starry night by Vincent Van Gogh, would love this song... I love it too!

Job well done my good sir. Wow.

  30. C.... G....

    Very nice.

  31. K.... A....

    Amazing

  32. J.... M....

This was a perfect song when it was written by a brilliant songwriter and released in 1972 by Don McLean. Sung well by James Blake but the sentiment is Don's. https://youtu.be/4wrNFDxCRzU

  33. e.... s....

    Fine art

  34. D.... S....

This is an amazing song I wish I could hear Michael Jackson sing this 😭💔😞❤️❤️❤️

  35. T.... R....

doesnt seem like real life when listening to this

  36. x.... ....

I just listened to Lianne La Havas sing this. Is it just me or is this really really bad compared to Liane? All the attempts to actually sing are cut short by this quick drop thing he does. I don’t know. Listen to Lianne and say I’m wrong.

    x.... ....

    x4SHOXxPandaXx You are absolutely wrong!!!

    x.... ....

nathanblue it’s really bad, I was being rhetorical. Lianne is the best hands down. I’m not even going to listen to this again to prove my point. This guy probably has other good songs but definitely not this cover.

  37. S.... T....

    Five easy James Blake songs

  38. e.... ....

you sir, need to find your soul. this is just perfect piano playing with extremely well delivered singing. seems great right? but a man with sloppy finger work and a stressed voice but who touched your soul with his tormented singing and ability to make the piano cry in its notes would destroy your perfect tone and pitch and piano. you dont believe the words, you dont feel the misery, and that is the difference between being some guy doing a cover at a piano, and someone tearing my soul open and leaving me in awe and looking for the rest of their music.

  39. M.... ....

Thank you very much, I've never had a sing with my name. and this is wonderfull.

  40. D.... S....

    Best cover

jESUS OFTEN MANIFESTS AND IN VINCENT HE DID SO TOO

  52. S.... K....

His song and performance are the lullaby of urbanites who are tired of the hustle and bustle of the city like Tokyo , Paris , New York , etc. of Megalopolis .

From Tokyo in the dizzying megalopolis ablaze with neon

  53. L.... E....

  58. K.... G....

Possibly the best breathe taking version of This song ......

  59. C.... D....

The 335 people who disliked this are a$$holes.

  60. M.... D....

Not my favourite version of this song, but he did a decent job.

  61. A.... T....

James Blake’s voice is my spirit animal

  62. l.... g....

    Don Mclean. 1973

  63. M.... D....

    Wow. Just WOW 🙏

  64. K.... J....

the best cover... you caught the emotion of the song...

  65. t.... ....

That was absolutely perfect... One of the most emotional, but minimalistic voices I have heard. His ability to convey so much pain in his singing, while also keeping his voice hardly above a whisper is just phenomenal. Until you try it yourself, you have no idea how difficult singing a song like this, in a vocal cadence like James did actually is...

  66. W.... S....

I hope all of you know that this a cover. Don Mclean (American Pie) originally wrote it and performed it in the fall of 1970. James Blake does a beautiful cover, don't get me wrong. It's also just a beautiful song in general, but let's not forget the original genius who crafted this masterpiece.

  67. M.... G....

I just put a comment there so that there isn't 666 comments BUT it's also cool

  73. R.... C....

My grandfather's name was Vincent. He was more of my father than my true father. This song... this song......

  74. C.... B....

Too bleak for me. No thanks

    C.... B....

Yeah, you better to listen to Cardi B or something like that.

  75. a.... ....

Still one of the most beautifull things I ever listened in my life.

  76. A.... M....

    UNBELIEVABLE wow, no words

  77. C.... B....

Who are the 314 idiots who gave this a thumbs down? Seriously.

  78. p.... ....

Compared to Don McLean, not even close. Nice try. Guess it's all about personal taste. This is not even close the quality of the original IMO. Sorry.

  79. P.... A....

If you’ve never heard the original by Don McLean, you’re missing out.

  80. M.... ....

Just a couple hours ago I learned that this song was written about Vincent Van Gogh, and I felt compelled to watch the recent movie, “Loving Vincent.” It was beautiful, both visually and emotionally. I thought it was great, one of the best hand-drawn movies I’ve ever seen. Especially when the credits began to roll, and this song began to play. I only wish that they had used this version with James instead of the one they ended up using. Now I’m back and can really appreciate this song for what it means. Vincent was a great man, but extremely misunderstood and looked down upon in his life, and now he’s one of the most famous artists to have ever lived. What a man he was.

  81. J.... G....

I hear him on the 2019 Grammy and I fell in love with his voice, just amazing!

  84. M.... P....

He literally took this song to a whole other level! Love this!❤

  85. J.... L....

made the hairs on me stand. Hauntingly beautiful. stirs the soul

  87. K.... M....

I heard this song yesterday and I cried listening to it on repeat. The music and the lyrics just really got to me. I just felt like it related to what I’m going through right now. Ugh love James Blake.

  88. c.... ....

its been a while i actually found someone's singing god fucking awful

  89. C.... -....

"For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream." - Vincent Van Gogh

For me, the real beauty of Stars is that their message continues to be brighter than the darkness which surrounds them.
Stars are there to guide the lost home, and to offer hope for all longing souls..

  95. X.... L....

    Awesome

  96. M.... J....

As a person with psychosis or schizoaffective this song touches me to my core. Absurd delusions and the pain of what some have to go through.

    M.... J....

jhumble777 I’m sorry to hear that. Are you treated? I do understand the flatness that you may feel with meds.

    M.... J....

@Meyer Joseph yes I'm treated . The meds help a little ... more so with me be able to sleep . But thank you . Yea I'm not doin well and haven't been . No job and social life for a while . It does suck . Well at least it can always be worse .

    M.... J....

jhumble777 negative symptoms are the hard part. I feel ya my social life is pretty blah too. Do you have like a social worker helping you out with getting a job?

    M.... J....

The loneliness is the tough part with psychosis too I feel like it must amplify it to an extent and with the mood stuff it gets messy. However it does get better with time.

    M.... J....

i hear ya. i came here for the same purpose
