Jam, The - Life From A Window Lyrics
Looking from a hilltop
Watching from a lighthouse, just dreaming
Up here I can see the world
Sometimes it don't look nice
But that's OK
Life from a window
I'm just taking in the view
Life from a window
Observing everything around you
Staring at a grey sky
Trying to paint it blue
Teenage blue
Life from a window
Life from a window
Watching everyone around you
Some people that you see around you
Tell you how devoted they are
They tell you something new on Sunday, but come Monday
They've changed their minds
I'm looking from a skyscraper
I'm standing on the post office tower
So I can see
All there is to see
Life from a window
I'm taking in the view
Life from a window
Watching everything around you
I'm looking from a skyscraper
I'm standing on the post office tower
So I can see
All there is to see

4.00 am and i cant sleep because i've got flu, listening to this song... magic!! Unfortunatly it only lasts 2.56....
18 year old Weller..unreal.
This 2nd album wasn't much rated at the time..I always thought it was great..but then next came All Mod Cons..Their best album. It takes me back..I used to be cool. The Jam rule..
“They’re alright this band, ain’t they”
"Some people that you see around you tell you how devoted they are...". You are right Paul, it does not seem to last.
An 18 year old Weller=Genius. Long live The Jam.
Their first (of many masterpieces) imho😎
My favourite Jam tune .
this song is brilliant, should have been a single at the time, I don't know why weller doesn't like it
I think not 1 of the best LPs as Mr Weller might have said but I feel an underated LP track
Beauty track.
Just.... Wow! Always dug them.
Tried to paint it blue
Des génies...et un super esprit Mod's
Out of all The Jam's singles and album tracks-THIS IS MY FAVOURITE- BRILLIANT
Standing on the post office tower
Pop Art on vinyl. Brilliant song.
I love this band so much - is there any cure or am I destined to be infected with them forever?
Luckily you are infected mate. Enjoy.
A classic Jam song a vast landscape..some songs have the feel of another song this has the feel of ..I can see for miles maybe?
Always loved this one.
Their best song, IMHO.
Bob Pollard's dream song?
wolffmannnn exactly!! that's what I often think about this song and Weller's vocals in particular.
Best song they ever did
even better than Going underground?
Yes. Absolutely. I saw them live in 1976. Was in the front row.
In my view, it's their masterpiece.
agreed. fabulous song.
Can't play it loud enough.
I love this Jam song. I used to listen to them a lot many years ago but not so much now. I come back to this one and a couple of others every now and then, like Fly, Liza Radley and Thick as Thieves.
In my view, as well.
Great song from a much under rated album :)
it's a September morning in Norwich Uk, it's chilli, the sun is out... the curtains are open. it's perfect..
magnifica tremenda
still sounds fresh
TOP TUNE!!
Great song, great vocals...
Reminds me of my time in Erith, looking over the Thames,
Great song.
I had this LP when I was in junior high school and even decorated one of my sweatshirts like Paul Weller did to his sweater on the cover. Great tune!
I did that and my Drum set also
I did a jumper too
Halcyon days! great great band . Paul is the piper, poet and prophet of our generation.
@skeptics2003 Mine too followed by Scrapeaway
great track love the jam
lov u jam people!...were has all the good music gone? ....lady gaga? rap? elton?? give me the jam! who, maryanne with the shaky hand......break it up break it up!!!
im jealous
british rock kicks the ass of american rock FACT!
and i wish i lived in europe :(
@rolandsausage LMAO gave you "the album"
Miriam Linna used to play this so loud in her walk-up on East Fifth Street in NYC! I bought the album, and Marek of the Fleshtones was angry with me -- he said I had to support the American bands more. I told him I didn't care, this was so much my story at the time. I am now in France. I live in one of these towers and my life is perfect!! I mean that!
one of my favourite albums made by the Jam
My mate's big sister gave me this album many, many years ago and had scribbled on it 'mad modette' in green felt pen.
I still have it to this day and I still remember the day she gave me it.
The album that is.
Happy days.
Did you want to give her one?
That just brought a smile of pure joy to my face. I'm sitting with the earphones in my laptop and the missus is convinced I'm gazing at porn ............cheers fella
my fav by these guys!
staring at a grey sky
try to paint it blue...
Me ma luvs this 1
I always felt that this track was the first time the listener heard the classic Jam sound that made their next album an all time classic.
Great tune and great to here again
suraboyo I think you nailed it: this song is a fabulous anticipation of the great things to come!
AMC is the best album in the history of the world......
Andrew Barker I have to admit that I have since found others but back then AMC blew my mind. Cheers KTF
They are still brill..Played em' for my friends..my folks, way back when they started..Nothing beats them...nothing..and i still play the hell out of them!
The lyrics on this really do ring true somehow. Just what ya do if there's nothign else to do, sat there often a little unsatisified with the way the world spins.
Top class song fella keep sticking em on. Me and my mucca do this acoustic in the pubs in South Wales check out acoustic version of tubestation by us on my site beevapatrol or Jaymod69.
