Jam, The - Big Bird Lyrics

Open up the sky
'Cause I'm coming up to you
So send down your wings
It'll bring me to you
You know I'm standing at the station
Ready to go
Big ol' airplane, you know I trust in you so

Get on up big bird
To my baby, love
Get on up big bird
To my baby, love
Get on up big bird
I got to make it heard
Get on up big bird
I got to make it heard
Get on up!

Way down here
You up there
Well we know is
Is it ain't no fair

You know I'm standing at the station
Ready to go
Big ol' airplane, you know I trust in you so

Get on up big bird
To my baby, love
Get on up big bird
To my baby, love
Get on up big bird
I got to make it heard
Get on up big bird
I got to make it heard
Get on up!

Jam, The Big Bird Comments
  1. N.... W....

Cover song but no less performed with high intensity as always

  2. W.... L....

This led me to the Eddie Floyd original way back when

  3. V.... ....

Always loved The jam doing covers. Gave lots of soul/R&B classics that British sound treatment.
A slightly lesser know one is Back in my arms again on the B side of Modern world single. - raw and fast as hell.
Also Move on up by Curtis. I know it's almost sacrilege to say it but I prefer it over Mayfiledls original....

  4. O.... ....

Eddie Floyd's Stax 45 is an absolute classic, but this is one hell of a good live cover! When they split in '82 they were the best band going, without a doubt,

  5. N.... F....

I was at this gig when it was recorded HAMMERSMITH PALAIS DECEMBER 1981,.
    GOOD NIGHT, GOOD COVER

  6. f.... ....

This cover, Rosetta Hightower's cover and Eddie Floyd's original are all phenomenal!  I did not know this song even existed until I heard Floyd sing it on Underground Garage a few night ago.  Satellite radio programmers do make some truly inspired music choices sometimes.

  7. R.... F....

    BIG BIRD!

  8. C.... S....

You can't beat Eddie Floyd's version. He is the Prince of soul!! Although I do love your track Eating Trifles :) or is it Eton Trifles or Shooting Rifles something like that…. LOL

  9. v.... w....

Weller has been criticiized for his vocal ability in the past.  And, I've heard others say they prefer Foxton's voice over Weller's, but this is proof here that Weller's voice has much more power than Foxton's.

    v.... w....

I dread to think how Foxton's voice would have butchered Bitterest Pill.

  10. J.... B....

    great tune

  11. j.... ....

that person that keeps missing what's being thrown is a bit of a distraction...other than that total bliss

  12. M.... R....

    Bliss. Thank you.

  13. A.... S....

Eddie Floyd wrote this song as a tribute to Otis Redding, while he was waiting at Heathrow airport for a flight to come back to the USA for Otis' funeral.

  14. T.... K....

    @cmonupies ...and kickin!

  15. c.... ....

I saw Eddie Floyd [who Weller heard sing it] sing it live in Nottingham a couple of years back. He's about 80ish now I think?

  16. W.... A....

Just found out some other dudes wrote it and covered it but you can dig them all out and Weller and The Jam will come out on top.

  17. W.... A....

This is well done I thought it was live till I read the comments below. Class song belongs to true Jam fans Im glad its not as big as the others. As its in a league of its own.

  18. M.... ....

If it was never filmed live, then this is as good as it gets, but hey it aint half bad.
