You realize the song wasn't about being happy right? It was a song about being real. In my opinion a cover should stay true to an extent, at least with the same vibe. Add different instruments, structure it different but the vibe has got to be there. I realize some people just don't have the soul, most in fact.

I disagree. A perfectly good cover can have a different vibe from the original, art is about interpretation. Aretha Franklin's Respect was a cover with a very different vibe from the original. Also, it doesn't feel like happiness to me at all. Feels like anger and grit

Some covers you can get away with a different vibe because that vibe isn't so important to the identity of the original song. In some cases like this song it doesn't work at all. I find it hard to believe some people can't see the ridiculousness of covers like this.

Loved how the guitarist just gently plucked the E string as he finished his last hauntingly good sounding lead break, it seemed to just stop ringing out as the intensity of Jade's powerful vocals hit full roar. This is a really underrated performance, gave me chills the first time I heard it. Great cover.
