Fauxie NPR - Well yes but he's American and probably wasn't even aware of how to properly pronounce it. But yeah, how he sang it is correct here in the US.

Respectfully, there's only gloster-sheer or gloster-shy-er as far as 'correct' is concerned, though I'm sure all manner of mispronunciations are possible.

You deleted your comment? lol not being funny, but as someone who grew up in Gloucestershire I chuckled at you telling me I was correct about the pronunciation. I'm not putting MJ down. I'm kinda chuffed (and certainly surprised) there is an MJ song (in part, or the title at least) related to the county I grew up in, I'm just saying the pronunciation is most definitely wonky. You can't have 'correct for US' on this one, sorry. If I started saying Baltimore is correctly pronounced 'Ballymore' in the UK someone would surely inform me that I'm just plain pronouncing it incorrectly.

Apparently according to one of the engineers working on this song (I think it's Brad Buxer), he does say "Gloucestershire" but purposefully mispronounced it for creative license.

I always searched for unreleased. I had a lot from fans all over the world because I was on many fansites while he was still alive. Some of these fans have became my friends. Friends for a lifetime. I know most of them for more than ten years. But I'm really happy to have this youtube channel thanks to sven

The song called "Days In Gloucestershire", comes from sessions in which Jackson, his producer and arranger for a long time, Brad Buxer and his trusted engineer, Michael Prince, collaborated. It was essentially the remedy to the previous theme of Jackson and Buxer, "I Am A Loser".

In short, Jackson and Buxer were staying in adjoining hotel rooms as they worked together on musical recordings in early 2003. Buxer, who was going through a breakup at the time, was awake late at night hanging around his room repeating: "I'm a loser, I'm just a loser!"


A moment later, Jackson, who could hear Buxer through the wall, knocked on his door, came in and asked, "What's the problem?"

"Oh, I'm a loser ... I'm just a loser!" Buxer replied, before explaining his situation.

"We're going to write a song about it," Jackson suggested. And they did it.

Moving up to 2004, Jackson and Buxer are back together working, this time along with Michael Prince, at the Neverland ranch.

Although there was an avant-garde studio in Neverland, Days in Gloucestershire was recorded in one of the guest bungalows on the ranch.

Buxer had a small studio set up in a bungalow, Prince was installed in another bungalow, and Jackson was staying with his children in another.


Jackson began living in the ranch bungalow with his children after his home, including his bedroom and private office, were raided by police on November 20, 2003, in connection with allegations of child abuse. Jackson was arrested, charged and was awaiting trial at that time (in which he would later be found innocent of all charges).

After writing a song about being a "loser", Jackson and Buxer began to talk about the things that made them happy and cheered them up when they felt depressed.


Michael recalled that when he was with the Jackson 5, he visited a beautiful place in England called Gloucestershire. Jackson, however, took the creative license (as he often did) in the pronunciation of the county of South West, pronouncing it as it reads, not as it really should be said.

According to Jackson, the time he spent in Gloucestershire when he was a teenager three decades earlier, while on tour with his brothers, was still one of his most precious memories. And so, just like they did with "Loser," Jackson and Buxer turned life into art.

Buxer did the music and Jackson wrote the lyrics, then Brad went home for a few days. Prince stayed at the ranch with Jackson and continued to record all the vocals with the King of Pop in an impromptu studio right there in the cabin bathroom, which was not an unusual thing for Jackson.

However, unfortunately, as with the vast majority of the material he was working on during the last years of his life, Jackson never came to complete the subject.

As it is in its final version, the song has a single verse and a chorus that Jackson sings again and again.

"What I did was go and do the first verse and the chorus and I did not do a second verse," says Teddy Riley talking about Jackson's habits when writing or recording demos. "It's just to work on the idea."

This is the way Jackson worked to know which topics he was comfortable with and which ones he did not.

"What I do when I write is to do a rough version, just to listen to the chorus, just to see how much I like the chorus," explained Jackson. "If it works for me that way when it's unpolished, then I know it will work ... I follow that same process with each song It's the melody The melody is the most important If the melody catches me, I'll continue until the next He passed".

"Days In Gloucestershire" is by no means complete, but judging by the positive reaction of Jackson's loyal fans, since he first appeared on the internet yesterday, and for those who are simply looking at it as a work of art, that Unfinished state does not seem to matter in the least.

ATM TV No it isnt currently. The Drake Version used only pieces of this OneTake Demo and the vocals are filtered too. Only parts were used and are available - the full original is locked by the estate and not Paul Anka. Originally only Michael had the tapes of the Anka-Jackson-Collaboration because Michael did not want to lose control about it. He feared a leak or release from Paul Ankas side later. But as far as I know Anka got all the tapes.
