Jackson Browne - The Load-Out Lyrics
Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
And that was sweet...
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
And that's a sound they'll never know
Now roll them cases out and lift them amps
Haul them trusses down and get'em up them ramps
You guys are the champs
But when that last guitar's been packed away
You know that I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for my piano
But the band's on the bus
And they're waiting to go
We've got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago
or Detroit, I don't know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms
And wander 'round backstage
Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came
Now we got country and western on the bus
R and B, we got disco in eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We've got rural scenes & magazines
We've got truckers on the CB
We've got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play
People you've got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
Come along, sing the song
You know you can't go wrong
'Cause when that morning sun comes beating down
You're going to wake up in your town
But we'll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here

Jackson Browne The Load-Out Comments
The more I listen to Jackson Browne' songs the more I think what a strikingly good musician he is, the way he caresses his guitar to bring out those healing notes. Marvellous!
I love You
I saw Jackson Browne for the first time when I was 19. He closed the show in San Diego with this song as his final encore. I've seen him many times since. He's the working man's troubadour despite his success. He has made a career saluting those who make life happen and all the while making us care. He's still touring, telling stories and keeping us in touch with what matters. His songs are milestones of all our lives. He is truly one of a kind. Go see him when he comes to town. He's as good as he ever was! Much love and peace!
Sure brings back memories of being on the road in 70s

One of the best songwriters that ever lived and still left. An amazing songwriter that survived.

Love the song!
Jackson's best cut of his career!
THE BLUE COLLAR SONGSMITH AT THE PEAK OF HIS CONNECTION TO HIS COMMONERS.
Stays crunchy, even in milk. After all these years.
running on empty because of it...lol
brings back soooooooooooo many good memories of trying to figure out this crazy life! Thanks Jackson you`ll always be a classic
He & Gregg are priceless! Greats that will never be repeated!! Lost Gregg I almost couldn't take I t! Hope Jackson lives forever!

I will always STAY!!!
A great talent. A true storyteller
Love this tune. Sometimes I play this tune to re-tune my head. As it is today, it is so convoluted as far as our biases. If we took a little bit of time to think about someone but our own vanities, we may be better worldwide.
I remember this song when iwas 20yrs of age...but when i hear it again.i remember my good times w/wife .tropa and my uncles.
Stay? I was 12 when my sister got this album
I have never left nor will I 🌧🌧🌧
Suz Clayton Im a Pisces born to like music, starting with Partridge Family TV Show 1970-1974. Buffalo, NY had a great music scene in 70s 10 years of concerts 4 every summer at Bills Stadium. Rolling Stones liked Buffalo they played here 6 times Led Zeppelin 2 times. The Produsers really got some big bands, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Aerosmith, Reo Speedwagon, Journy, The Who, The Clash, Rush, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers, Origanl Lynyrd Skynyrd. Greatfull Dead, Country singer Alan Jackson. It was cool almost every band opened with HELLO BUFFALO. It sucks Buffalo winters are 5 months November - March. Our winters are bad 10-12 feet from Lake Erie. At least we have the Lake for summer fun. Even the weather guys don't know why Buffalo gets the most snow of all other Citys near 5 Great Lakes. ALWAYS WHITE CHRISTMAS IN BUFFALO
ALWAYS LOVED THIS
Thanks Dad. 🖖🤘✌
This was the song playing in the barracks when I said goodbye to my Marine Corps buddies after I got discharged it was all I could do to not burst into tears.
Welcome!! I should have said I'm a Navy veteran. Proud like you and everyone else that I wore our countries uniform!!
@Patricia Crickmore My father-in-law was a Navy Veteran. We shared a lot of good times together. My wife and I moved into my in-laws house for a short while when he was dying of cancer. We talked about our time in the military to the very end. Thank you for your service.

I hate labels...how do u label a sunset?
when I am asked "what kind of music do you listen to?" my answer is was and will always be...GOOD Music!!!
I hate that question.... I always want to ask "Can't we just go over the kinds of music I DON'T listen to? Much shorter list..."
if u don't like PUNK u ain't shit...imo :)
I still listen to both the Poodles and Ramones
40 years later
The Fabulous Poodles had an electric Violin around the same time,I saw them open for the RAMONES in Chicago 1979
1st time I remember hearing an electric violin, soon after I heard many
Still standin...but not on the corner...lol
🙃🥀✌️🌍💚still Loving Mr. Brown
Pack em up and tear them down..
This music makes me think of the life I have wasted . I was miserable when it was popular . I bought this album and had to play it when nobody was around because I was told it was a waste of money . I was playing it one day he cane in the door I pulled the record off the turntable and forgot the cover on the floor . The dog pooped on the record cover and I was busted . Still love this song on my headphones .
A wonderful piece of music. Just wonderful from beginning to end!
I was 17 working on a driving crew touring with some of the greats of the times, pulling in and out of towns. Having the time of my life,
Every time I hear this it takes me back. The Moody blues was one of a long list of them ..... thanks for the blast from the past
Those will always be difined as The Glory days. Footloose and fancyfree
That would been awesome, moody Blues my favorite
Love the Moody Blues and heard that they were good to their Roadies; treated them like family. I hope that was the case!
I REMEMBER HUSTLING T SHIRTS ,CONCERT TICKETS AND BACK STAGE PASSES ,I REMEMBER MEETING THE LIKES OF WILLIE ,BONO, NUGGENT, CASH, THE ROADIES,THE TRUCK DRIVERS,BUS DRIVERS ,I REMEMBER ALL THE CHEAP HOTELS,THE FAST FOOD ,THE HIP RESTURANTS AFTER A GOOD NITE .THE UPS AND DOWNS ,THE HANGOVERS BUT MOST OF ALL I REMEMBER LOUISE.
Jackson Browne gives credit to the ones that really make everything happens, the guys in the trenches. And all quarterbacks, and running backs will tell you the same thing---it's the guys in the trenches who determine success, or failure; victory or defeat. As the legendary Green Bay Packer quarterback, Bart Starr, said "this is a game of guards and tackles, and so help me God, I wouldn't have gotten where I am, without those guys who make it all happen."
Love this tune. You ever need a trucker traveling Horn Man give me a call.
I was 21 when this came out, just starting to find my way around the world …..
The best tribute to those who make life happen for those out front -- 20 feet from stardom -- showing up, doing the grunt work, keeping odd hours, rushing around to meet "needs" or wants -- think of all the Amazon drivers, the people in the fields picking your produce, meat packing plants, "service" workers -- some referred to as "the help." They are there at the beginning and the end. Here's to ALL the ROADIES of our lives -- may we all be kind, generous and thoughtful to them! Love Jackson!
I think it be cool to finally connect with those folks- the service workers.. <3
Tamara Trussell Thanks I appreciate that as one of those workers. I am a laborer that builds highways alongside other trades.
@John J I worked thirty years as a Telephone Contractor. Lived life on the road been most every state.
This is beautiful, Tamara!
best evr
mr lindley on fire..
Listening to these tunes in headphones in the hospital in Florence in 2004 I was delighted. Energy&Magic song's
Some time the magic happens when we are alone
i was seventeen in Alkiza. just a little bit longer
I heard that the violin is the closest instrument to a human voice
I prefer the fiddle. It touches my Soul somehow. I think it comes from my Iris-side.
@Brian J. Carnevale same instrument, different style of play
u play a fiddle from the hip,a violin from the chin
love the electric violin
I bought this album,it was scratched so I returned it for an Eight Track...I shoulda got another album
Oh won’t you stay! I will!
One of the greatest albums by one of the greatest singer songwriter ever! I tip my cap to all of you
I love this fucking song That Motherfucker is talented And it shows in this song Truth is He came out with this song just messing around killing time back stage and started singing it Soon after He ended up in the studio with this song Rewritten of course He layed this track down on point The way he flipped this song 3 times From slow to fast to the end Sounding like the 50's and 60's Giving it that groove 😊👌
Whatever happened to Jackson can anyone tell me? An inspired soul from when music was music not muzac
Still making music!
I saw him in concert last february, he was great ! What do you mean what happened to him ?
@J.Rollins Brunson I guess they meant that you really don't hear much of him these days...glad to hear he's still performing...
Him and Glenn Frye are standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona
He's still touring and opening for James Taylor in Hershey, Pa in June....can't wait! Love them both ❤
I.remember you james

R&B, not "are and be." That's "Rhythm and Blues," a musical genre.
favorite song of my father.
On Tour Logistics rules!
I work for a truck company that hauls for the concert industry , this song perfectly tells what goes on behind the curtains.
I sure wish I had the stamina to do that work!
''free to be''
Born in 1988 and my mom listened this song when I was young. I just find back the title for my biggest pleasure. Thank's to put it on youtube.
MrAethias Im a Pisces born to like music, starting with Partridge Family TV Show 1970-1974 I got lucky went to a Bar & Allman Brothers were playing in Buffalo, NY of all places. That's when Greg was married to Cher. Greg lived in Buffalo when Cher bought a house on Lake Erie shore line. Also Allman Brothers played at our High School a teacher knew them funny it was a Catholic School. Buffalo had a great music scene in 70s 10 years of concerts 4 every summer at Bills Stadium. Rolling Stones played here 6 times Led Zeppelin 2 times Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Aerosmith, Journy, Reo Speedwagon, The Who, The Clash, Rush, Greatfull Dead, Origanal Lynyrd Skynyrd Some kind of trend started most bands opened saying HELLO BUFFALO. That BUFFALO CALLED SNOW CAPITAL OF USA. Its True we get 10-12 feet every winter from Lake Erie
Rest in peace mom.
Blessings to you Jacob.
Hi Chef, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for taking my seat and that I wanted to give it back.
One of the best song of the 70's.Jackson Browne is great.
1-of-200!!!
IMO Jackson Browne's best - a concept album about musician's life on the road.. With a great first track and a killer ending track/s plus all good tracks in between = no throwaways, as if it's a "greatest hits".. I had vinyl copy of this, then a cassette, and later a cd. And now I listen to this on You tube. I never get tired after half century. A real gem of an album..
@Ely -- Ditto. But you know what I dont understand - how it is that one of his best songs ever ("You Love the Thunder") appears on no other album... There's no studio version!! One of the biggest oversights in the history of Rock music in my humble opinion!
I am rediscovering this all over again! the performance of the Last 50 years
Wow, this makes me want to go out and buy this CD. I already have a huge CD collection, but for some strange reason, I think this one is missing from it. I'll have to do something about that.
Es gibt immer was schönes!
I was just a little kid when I heard this album and, yeah, it was on vinyl and I can't recall any other record that I had so little effort keeping from moving the needle over - truly an amazing album.
getanzt geliebt und gelebt in Wiesbaden 1977-1979
Another Great one !!Wish the music of today was this great !! I Luv all kinds of music from different decade's big band music 50s 60s on through. To disco hard rock even some metal bands of 80s classical country girl bands to Christian to lullabys but I don't like much of the music last few yrs so much of it is depressing or angry !! Lots of talented artist out there music soothes the Soul and heals the Heart and mind lets have more feel good or romantic Dancing music for the sake of the young people !! It effects how they look at life youth goes quick be happy and kind it will catch on !! Gods Still in CONTROL he wants us to enjoy this gift of life not get caught up in the Bullshit politics and divisions that the Elite shove at us in all different ways !Gods cool and funny get to know him and he'll deal with the Bad stuff Im a 60yrs young been through lots had fun pain luv all the rest at different degrees but always held on tight to God ! And he makes us stronger through stuff gives Character Wisdom which is really 😎 cool he uses those that have been there done that good or bad or risky otherwise we couldn't be there for others and for him we wouldn't get it !! So no matter what always keep your faith and hang on to the Lord. Talk to him from yr heart like a friend if your angry tell him confused all of it but also your happy stuff we don't need phoney religious preachers (not all are fake) but most I think U go directly to the lord with yr questions or whatever on yr heart dont go through some priest in confession or send money to get prayer answers thats a lie. Jesus died for us and ended that nonsense there just men /women although not all bad but why tell sone preist who's probably just molested a child or rape a nun !and they tell U if your sin fogiven ?! its none of there business !! They need to deal with there on issues not play God !! Sorry for so much but people need to know God luvs us and that he's rt there for us all trust God not Man especially if there asking for money or make U feel Like your not worthy !!
what about a little bach, chopin!!?? weren't they okay back then, too...as my dad would always ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What 'Music of today'......???
@John Hummer LOL
Finally. All the other versions are live (which is fine, but I don't like the audience reactions in the background) or the Load Out and Stay are split between two videos. You're doing God's work.
I was there when he recorded this... But yes... Always together.
he also recorded Running on Empty that night
Dixie chic
@Rhonda McAlister
Dixie chicks with harmonica
YES!!!!!!! Playing "The Load Out" & "Stay" separately is like playing "We Will Rock You" & "We Are The Champions" separately.............WRONG!!!!!!!!!!
Someone got copyright stricken
