Jackson Browne - Jamaica Say You Will Lyrics
Jamaica was the lovely one, I played her well
As we lay in the tall grass where the shadows fell
Hiding from the children so they would not tell
We would stay there 'till her sister rang the evening bell
Help me find a way to fill these empty hours
Say you will come again tomorrow
The daughter of a captain on the rolling seas
She would stare across the water from the trees
Last time he was home he held her on his knees
And said the next time they would sail away just where they pleased
Jamaica, say you will
Help me find a way to fill these lifeless sails
Jamaica was a sweet young one, I loved her true
She was a comfort and a mercy through and through
Hiding from this world together, next thing I knew
We had brought her things down to the bay
- what could I do
Jamaica, say you will
Help me find a way to fill these sails
And we will sail until our waters have run dry

I've loved this song since I first heard it in 1972. Now, I'm 60 and it touches my heart the exact same way. Timeless. Love Jackson Browne.
And still sometimes I look back.....with wonder
A wonder of some great years that pass and can't get back..... Lost in a memory.....
You and I - "Saturday's Cab Ride Home" brought me here (which references, TWY lol).

I first heard this entire record when my cool as hell older sister introduced me to start of FM radio.
I have no memories or knowledge of the wonder years, I just know this song because I bought the album in the early 70's, I don't like it so much now.
Thank you for sharing this important information about yourself.
The Wonder Years brought me here. The older I've gotten the more that show takes me back.
that show brought me here too lol and yes I agree, as I get older, the more I appreciate the amazing and honest writing on that show and what a classic it is!
Me too! I'm watching Season 5 on DVD and this song wasn't listed in booklet, so I had to come looking for it. Glad I did, such a great song! :)

The LAST of a generation not so spolied, the LAST of a generation with pride, honor, respect, and still had some morals and values to live by....... God bless the generations who laid the paths before us.
I'm sure most people know this wonderful song by Joe Cocker.
No it's shit. Not Joe's style.
This LP and For Every Man are my favorites. Bringing back olfactory memories. Nice
Thanks for the Music Jackson Browne and The Wonder Years.
Nostalgia, and The Wonder Years brought me back here, and I couldn't be more thankful! Even though I'm 18, everybody needs some oldies in their lives.
I was going to post a song Jackson wrote much later but since Valentine's Day is Friday, I thought better of it. I hope those of you that don't know this early work will find it as captivating as we did when it came out.
Steve Stripling weird. Valentine's Day is coming up in the next few days, and for some reason, I I searched the song
