Jackson Browne - Before The Deluge Lyrics
Some of them were dreamers
And some of them were fools
Who were making plans and thinking of the future
With the energy of the innocent
They were gathering the tools
While the sand slipped through the opening
And their hands reached for the golden ring
With their hearts they turned to each other's heart for refuge
In the troubled years that came before the deluge
Some of them knew pleasure
And some of them knew pain
And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered
And on the brave and crazy wings of youth
They went flying around in the rain
And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in the moment they were swept before the deluge
Now let the music keep our spirits high
And let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal its secrets by and by
By and by...
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky
Some of them were angry
At the way the earth was abused
By the men who learned how to forge her beauty into power
And they struggled to protect her from them
Only to be confused
By the magnitude of her fury in the final hour
And when the sand was gone and the time arrived
In the naked dawn only a few survived
And in attempts to understand a thing so simple and so huge
Believed that they were meant to live after the deluge
Now let the music keep our spirits high
And let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal its secrets by and by
By and by...
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky

a tragic prophecy. but so beautiful.
You just don't want that jam playout to end. What a great piece this is

Jackson Browne' album "Late for the Sky" and red bud got me through some rough spots in 1974. One of my all-time favorite albums.....
Lyrically one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Can't even sing along without tearing up.
Some of them were dreamers
And some of them were fools
Who were making plans and thinking of the future
With the energy of the innocent
They were gathering the tools
They would need to make their journey back to nature
While the sand slipped through the opening
And their hands reached for the golden ring
When their hearts they turned to each other's hearts for refuge
In the troubled years that came before the deluge
Some of them knew pleasure
And some of them knew pain
And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered
And on the brave and crazy wings of youth
They went flying around in the rain
And their feathers, once so fine, grew torn and tattered
And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in a moment they were swept before the deluge
Let the music keep our spirits high
Let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal its secrets by and by, by and by
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky
Some of them were angry
At the way the earth was abused
By the men who learned how to forge her beauty into power
And they struggled to protect her from them
Only to be confused
By the magnitude of her fury in the final hour
And when the sand was gone and the time arrived
In the naked dawn only a few survived
And in attempts to understand a thing so simple and so huge
Believed that they were meant to live after the deluge
Let the music keep our spirits high
Let the buildings keep our children dry

What a masterpiece by a true master, many thanks for posting
David's fiddling is perfect here!
Learn to swim well, 23 thumbs down. A Masterpiece by JB..Thank you Brother.
"When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky."
This, The Eagles Last Resort & Neil Young's After The Goldrush are a triumvirate of blindingly prescient songs. And the playout on this could go on forever - sublime.
It really is a masterpiece. Wore out the grooves in this album!
if you don't like guns after hearing this song 🤣🤣🤣
This has always been my favorite song. Now finally it is happening. The Paradise fire is the turning point.
Nine thumbs down? ahahahahahahah Who's are these Isis headhunters with negative?
The greatest singer/songwriter of our time.
David Mohney amen..
@Mark Houston amen and amen!
That’s what I have been saying for years.
"In the naked dawn, only a few survived, and in attempts to understand the thing, so simple and so huge, believed that they were meant to live after the deluge." BELIEVED THAT THEY WERE MEANT TO LIVE
Brilliant Jackson Browne. His best songs live in our hearts and minds with the depth and permanence of truth. I send him my love.
This song so appropriate for these times as Trump and his administration is ripping apart the epa standards leaving our endangered species with no protection. SAD our grandchildren don't stand a chance to see these amazing creatures.
io penso che la migliore musica in assoluto sia stata espressa in quegli anni, questo brano con le sue tematiche lo dimostra
The Deluge? I'm still waiting for it... with Infinite Patience!
Love this one! What a fantastic album this was.
why do songs cjange every 20 sec.
Powerful, tour more.
Not a doubt about it Jacksons been covered by everyone ...there's a reason for that
The Boss was right. This album is a masterpiece.
i don't agree. Jackson's best songs are Take it Easy, Late for Sky, MY RED NECK FRIEND, The Pretender, Stay, Somebody's Baby. This record is TOO MUCH, TOO SLOW, TOO MUCH WAITING FOR THE DAMN SONG TO END: FOUNTAIN OF SORROW (SORROW for the listener), THE GREAT DELUGE (great overlong deluge). Take it EASY ON US JACKSON.
@Oppothumbs M If you think so, you don't love JB. All the songs are masterpiece!
