The feds came after Murder Inc so that Irv Gotti would stop paying for the legal defense of Kenneth “Supreme” Macgriff (a childhood friend of Irv Gotti). He was one of the last big drug dealers from the 80s and the feds wanted him BADLY. The only thing in their way was irv Gotti paying for the guys lawyers.
The feds alleged that Gotti was using Def Jams money to support a criminal. So Def Jam cut off Murder Inc financially.
