J. Geils Band, The - You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd Lyrics

My job was okay
I thought I was cruisin'
Little did I know
I was cruisin' for a bruisin'

Things were lookin' bad
But with you I had the goods
I couldn't see the trees
In love's deadly woods

I got smitten by a kitten
At the Kit-Kat club
Before I hit the brakes
I had hit the rub

You overheard me on the phone
When I told her goodbye
I got creamed in the face
With a reality pie

And now you're gettin' even
While I've been gettin' odd
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You're gettin' even while I'm gettin' odd

Now there's safety in numbers
But I think my number's up
Subtract you from my life, girl
Is like drinkin' with no cup
Now I'm gettin' wettish
Thinkin' about you, my great fetish
Like fishin' without a rod
I'm just sittin' here gettin' odd

You say that I hurt you
And it got you mad
You say that I burnt you
Now you're gettin' bad
I see you ain't jokin'
And I want your bod
But now you're gettin' even
While I've been gettin' odd

If I was an itch, would you bother to scratch?
If I was a pitch, would you bother to catch?
If I was peanut butter, would you be the jam?
If I was a door, would you give me a slam?

You've been gettin' even
While I've been gettin' odd

You're gettin' even
While I've been gettin' odd
Please come back, please come back
I just got to have your bod

You're gettin' even
While I've been gettin' odd
(He never meant to hurt you)
That's the truth, I swear to God

J. Geils Band, The You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd Comments
  1. D.... C....

35 years on since it was released (1984... now its August 2019...) This album probably should have never been... no Peter Wolf, no J. Geils Band... just that simple... 11 studio albums (including this one...)... should have named the band "J. Geils Project"...

  2. A.... M....

All these years later, I'm still not sure what the hell it is I'm listening to for the first minute of this.

  3. d.... ....

Wow is this bad! Even Wolf couldn't save this garbage. His solo stuff is way better.

  4. O.... M....

The title track has the sound of the 80s that was prevalent in the industry. Would woobah goobah sign off on this? Nope, he bailed...

  5. M.... D....

Any true fan of one of the greatest live acts from the 70's and a truly great American rock and roll band shudders to think they could release this crap. This is a prime example of music a band releases when they are on the verge of breaking up as a result of creative and control differences.

  6. G.... G....

    So good.

  7. P.... ....

Sounds heavily influenced by Talking Heads' _Remain In Light_ album.

  8. k.... ....

definitely one of the most under rated albums ever.

  9. C.... 9....

I am a 17 yr. J. Geils fan! I was so happy when I found this album while vinyl hunting yesterday! I used to YouTube the crap out of this album when I was in middle school! Brings back so many memories and I had forgotten how great and underrated it is!

  10. P.... A....

The Seth Justman Band at this point, his vocals aren't Wolf, but not bad. The songs are actually good, but this album sounds more like Oingo Bongo or The Tubes than anything they previously did, with Geils himself often buried in the mix.

    P.... A....

All true. It actually doesn’t feel like a unnatural evolution from the slick and poppy Centerfold.

And for those who can’t get enough of this sort of thing, check out Debbie Harry’s Justman produced songs on her “Rockbird” album. Three years later, he was still committed to selling it to somebody.

  11. V.... L....

This album has been forgotten by virtually everybody. I don't know why because it's a good album.

    V.... L....

+Vinny Levine Because Wolf wasn't on it.

  12. a.... ....

It's got a kind of fiendish energy to it.

  13. D.... L....

    Owned this on cut-out vinyl.

  14. w.... H....

EMI shouldn't have bailed on this album. Geils followers would have kept the money rolling in.

  15. S.... M....

This album did horrible but I thought it was one of their best.

  16. d.... k....

It was released in the US on CD but barely sold so was quickly moved to the cut out bins

  17. r.... ....

I'll bet you anything the intro to this song was inspired by Fela Kuti's "Confusion"

    r.... ....

It's either a synth or what they call "prepared piano" (think Van Halen's "Strung Out" and you'll have the idea)

  18. A.... W....

Best album never released on CD in the US

  19. J.... P....

    Long time, no hear. Thanks!
