J. Geils Band, The - Rage In The Cage Lyrics
Shopping Center crazy
I need some fast relief
The boss says, "Boy, you're lazy"
But I'm just bored beyond belief
Laid off since last summer
This town is like a prison
And I just got to make my break
They say "Be cautious, little mister"
They shove it down your throat
I'm 'bout to choke - choke
I'm nauseous - my transistor's 'bout the
only antidote to keep my temperature
from runnin' wild
Let me hear that radio!
There's a rage in the cage
Sweet Diana to the rescue
Hot potato to my aid
She's the girl with the swirl
Like air-conditioned lemonade
But the lady's on the hot-plate
Daddy's threatened to disown
Handcuffed tight in a chain of events
I guess I'm out here on my own
It don't take a PhD
To know I'm goin' nowhere fast
I've got to move - I'm on the move
It don't take much to see
This town is livin' in the past
They all just seem to wanna tie me down
Let me hear that radio!
There's a rage in the cage
There's a rage in the cage
I wanna rock it
I've got to rock it
I've gotta get me on that rocket ship to outa here
This town is wearin' ear plugs
I'm of age and loose to juice
But they say Stop! Stop!
There's a fire in the furnace
Breakin' out and breakin' loose
You know I'm just about to lose my mind
They don't want me paralyzed
They just want me neutralized
There's a rage in the cage
There's a rage in the cage

They don't want me paralyzed
They just want me neutralized
great band album song!
Don't know why this just popped into my head, haven't heard it since it came out. I hate Centerfold.
This was not their last album. They put out Your getting even while I'm getting odd without Peter Wolf in 1984. True, it was a flop(especially compared to FF)but it was still technically their last album not this.
I used to lose my mind to this song as a kid back then... infact, still raging \m/
Great CD to go 4 wheeling to. I know I did it up the creek about 4 miles in the water what a blast and jamming to this whole CD...Pure Fun🌎✌💜😂💯®
So great to see this artwork after 37 years. I had this 45 single back in the day
Was he neutralized?
Better breakdowns than some modern day metal.
There used to be a teen center called the Rage in my hometown. I always asked the dj to play this song.
I could listen to this gem all day! =D
HAPPY NATIONAL ODIE DAY!
Scott's incest...
Baddest band in the land.
current generation will never know the coolness we experienced when this song hit the airwaves
This song has got to be the inspiration for Bullet with Butterfly Wings. This song is the first thing that came to mind when I first heard that song way back in the 90s.
HAPPY NATIONAL PARANORMAL DAY!
Listened to this tape every morning on my paper route in 1982
probably haven't heard this song in 35 years. still kinda terrible.
Always loved this song
This song has s ok me excellent breakdown .
At present, JGB is 8th in the RnRHOF fan voting, behind Judas Priest but ahead of both Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine.
Hoping this is the year, but not quite seeing it.
i still got this 45 pinkpapper love this song
anyone from Colorado that remembers Cinderella City?
Wish they had a video 4 this song. It was great.👍👍👍👍
HAPPY WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY!

Always wondered this: Is that a harmonica from 2:20 to 2:33, or something else?
Yes, it is a harmonica.

Sheila White call me 😁💕
I was 10!!! The words suit me to a tee then & now. I used to have such a temper, I'd get beet red & talked tougher then at ten then CONOR MCGREGOR ever did.
Rest In Peace John Giles, Another great music legend has passed, They are gonna have a hell of a band on the other side with all the greats that have died
i drove my parents crazy playing this 45 at top volume over and over again.
lol my step mother used to look at me all worried, like I'd be doing drugs soon. :P
Rest in Peace
R. I. P. Jerome "J" Geils, guitarist/namesake of the J. Geils Band.
Now this is the kind of music to listen to at work. I have to endure country "music" at my job because the manager has no taste in good music
honestly... its a joke that they're not in the hall of fame.
Magic Dick on Harp aka Deerfield Dynamo in the early days.
Loved these guys! Good old fashioned just for the fun of it rock and roll.
to be in high school again...good times...for the most part
Isn't this song about sex?
Jr High 1981 a lot of us would go to the downtown ice cream shop/arcade at lunch for video games, juke box and socializing. I swear this song got played a lot more than "Centerfold" at those gatherings. Song has such a great groovy funky thing going on. Takes me back.
sounds about right to me. I was in junior high in (early) 1981, and 9th grade at the end of that year, and we all loved this song, right around then.
Same here... junior high totally! yeah! :)
time to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame
my friend is a rage in a cage

+John HaleyYour Uncle has extremely good taste in music and taught you right!
i got this when i was maybe 5-6. also my first record. i think my grandma gave me some money for xmas. distinctly remember buying it at a kmart haha.
I was going on 18 when this came out! Don't make music like this anymore!
I was 13, played it to death.
This is the B-side to Centerfold.. was one of my favorite songs as a kid.
I think I have it somewhere too.
e Kopke - you have a mental illness. Get help.
This was better. I always was the fan of B sides. I played the shit out of this when closing at Happy Joes!
Slade Smiley I have it too. This song rocks.
Slade Smiley —Thank you so much for reminding me where I heard this song!! So long ago , I’d slightly forgotten.
the geils sound was a bit more funky on freeze frame however somehow it worked flamethrower and this were the best songs on the album
They wore this album out in the early 80's at the skating rinks.
That fucking breakdown at 2:37 Sweet Jesus...
what i like is the drums and bass actually lay way back in that part, let that maniac guitarist do his thing. less is more sometimes.
Not exactly sure what happens at that part that is such a big deal.
Rage.....in...the ....cage!!!""
This is my favorite song off this album. Something about this song, I dunno but it ROCKS!
+Jim O'Dell A cassette in your K car playing loud through your Jenson 6X9s...
+wiibaron Absolutely! 'Kin'a! 😄

This bitch goes out to Muadh al Kasasbeh.
This one and Flamethrower are 2 of my all time favorites !!!
@Mark Lockerman agreed!...but I've got to include Piss On The Wall
...aaaand Insane, Insane Again.
YES ! ........Piss on the wall and angel in blue added
memories of ward the Pinto and 8 Tracks how much fun did we have.
the 3 horn-playing members of the Blues Brothers Band ('Blue' Lou Marini, Tom 'Bones' Malone and Alan 'Mr. Fabulous' Rubin) played the horns for this track.
Awesome!
@Tank Stoner Great to know! thanks
Duck Dunne?
THANKS!!!
You can describe early 80's New Wave music with this song!
J Geils is NOT New Wave. TYVM.
I know JGeils is not New Wave , they went way back those years, but they were sure trying to emulate the "new" sound that new wave bands were playing, even the look of the cover in the album ls from that style.
They were a blues rock band, but in the '80s, they went for a pop rock/new wave sound. However, they still kept the blues instruments like the hammond organ, but they also added in some synths as well. When I listen to the live version of "Musta Got Lost," it's instrumentation sounds hardly different from "Freeze-Frame" or "Centerfold" (albeit with both of the latter songs having some synth in it).
"Whip it" was a year earlier.
punk rock at its the best..
Actually it's probably closer to prog rock.
Awesoms song and Album design !
By far my favorite JGB song
freeze frame was their last album with peter JGeils did an album or 2 without him and Peter did some alone NOW THEY play live during the summers since 1999'
STUCK IN A SHIT TOWN THEME SONG.
Great B Side to Centerfold
Great song, great album, great band! One of the best rock-n-roll bands!
remember loving u2 early on then a few years later they where all the shit.
when this song came out there was a rage in my cage wow
Saw them on this tour w/ U2 opening for them...
Man do I remember this song...takes me way back..thanks
waa waa waa waa raaa .. raa raa raa raa waaa. reminds me of being cool
the ad sucks, but the song is great. oh man i remember this so well.
Loved this as a kid.. if I remember correctly it was the B-side of Centerfold.. seems different than I remember..
fucken gay song brah.
Peter Wolf had hits after "Lights Out?" I don't remember any. They might have made the top 100, but I can't think of any that made the top 10. Maybe something did. He still lost the amount of spotlight he ended up having with the band. Of course the band disappeared after Peter left. I focused on him because he quit the band. It wasn't the rest of the band that quit.
Thankyou for posting this song.. It brings me back to the good ole days.
always made me think of the movie Lady In A Cage.
It's interesting how lead singers sometimes leave their bands right after they hit a whole new level of fame. This album was huge, and it made the band mainstream. I was in fourth grade when it became popular, and it really was the shit for a while. I guess Peter pulled a David Lee Roth and went solo and then learned the hard way that it was about the band, not Peter alone. He had that solo hit "Lights Out," and then he vanished into the night.
