Ives, Burl - Mockin' Bird Hill Lyrics

When the sun in the morning peeps over the hill
And kisses the roses 'round my window sill
Then my heart fills with gladness when I hear the trill
Of the birds in the treetops on Mockingbird Hill

Tra la la, tweedle dee dee dee
It gives me a thrill
To wake up in the morning
To the mockingbird's trill
Tra la la tweedle dee dee dee
There's peace and good will
You're welcome as the flowers
On Mockingbird Hill

Got a three-cornered plow and an acre to till
And a mule that I bought for a ten-dollar bill
There's a tumble-down shack and a rusty old mill
But it's my Home Sweet Home up on Mockingbird Hill

Tra la la, tweedle dee dee dee
It gives me a thrill
To wake up in the morning
To the mockingbird's trill
Tra la la tweedle dee dee dee
There's peace and good will
You're welcome as the flowers
On Mockingbird Hill

When it's late in the evening I climb up the hill
And survey all my kingdom while everything's still
Only me and the sky and an old whippoorwill
Singin' songs in the twilight on Mockingbird Hill

Tra la la, tweedle dee dee dee
It gives me a thrill
To wake up in the morning
To the mockingbird's trill
Tra la la tweedle dee dee dee
There's peace and good will
You're welcome as the flowers
On Mockingbird Hill

This is one of the records I grew up with. It was my parent’s’ record, but I played it a lot. I had one of those plastic horses attached to a metal frame with springs so it would rock and bounce. I used to get on it and listen to records. I still have this exact same record. I haven’t played it in ages, but I still have it.

  36. M.... I....

tjenna ! tjenna! It makes me smile.

  37. m.... ....

This is such a classic! If you find yourself having a tendency to sway side to side, you can attribute that to the use of 3/4, or waltz tempo. Sometimes he kind of sounds

like Perry Como to me (with slightly more rasp). I have a few records of his - particularly 45 r.p.m. multi-track. While we associate multi-track records with 33-1/3, 12" LPs, many 45s came that way as well. I might even have a few of his 10" 78 pressings somewhere around here.

  38. L.... A....

Love this song, Burl Ives sings it nicely too..grew up hearing this happy song!

  39. J.... P....

Does anyone picture Thanos' dream-world at the end of the last AVENGERS movie when they hear this?

  40. F.... H....

Burl Ives was one of a kind . They don't write songs like this anymore. my favorite song from my youth.

  41. G.... P....

See pictures of Burl Ives in the bathtub taking a bubble bath in The Spiral Road. His huge gluttonous belly is unbelievable. His exposed naval is cute. His titties are cute. Burl Ives has big boobs for a man and a plump pink bare butt. He has extra large testicles and a small soft cock.

No matter how good any video is, there is always someone to give a thumbs down. My theory is there are three reasons. 1: Some people are ignorant, 2: Some people hit the thumbs down by accident. 3: Some people are stupid.

  63. R.... B....

Always loved this by Burl Ives!

They must have been disappointed because there is no cheating, broken heart beer!

  72. N.... T....

"...there's peace and goodwill".   That line clearly describes the voice of Mr. Burl Ives.  As a boy, my mom would put me to bed and play Burl Ives on the stereo.   I would lie there and listen to this song and other's like Down in the Valley, Ghost Riders in the Sky, Blue Tail Fly and Big Rock Candy Mountain and then fall fast asleep.    His voice is just PERFECT for folk songs...a real American Treasure from a simpler time in America!

  73. N.... D....

My mother sang this to me as a child, as she drove me to school. I miss you, and your lovely voice Mom. But I will see you soon, and hope you sing this to me as you greet me. :)

  74. O.... 3....

Can't imagine why it took this long to appreciate Burl Ives. Guess our values change with age. Those of us who are lucky acquire a little wisdom, I guess.

  75. O.... 3....

Although my fav version is Les Paul and Mary Ford, this is equally beautiful. Thank you.

  76. M.... M....

I'm having to sing this for my seven month old son alot. it calms him down

  77. J.... B....

Was my Grandmother's favorite and brings back great memories of her and listening to Burl Ives as a young lad here in Sri Lanka.

    S.... P....

Hai, Aibhuvan! I was a regular listener of SLBC English services since 1967 to 2007. I also had spoken with its Announcers-Niranjan Abay Sundra, Roshan Abaysekara, Indrani Senanayake, and KS Sivakumaran. In 2007, one summer Sunday morning, Niranjan played the song "Tra-la-la-di di dee dee dee dee-( Mockingbird hill song) by a band that sounded like Foster & Allen in the beat like, " From a jack to a king" song's tempo. Can u please let me know the Artist/band please ?The voice was almost like Foster.

    S.... P....

I Have been known to the Sri Lankan SLBC regular listeners( like Hiranthi From Galle ) as K.S.Manian from Ozar Nasik, Maharshtra, India.

    S.... P....

I had recorded the song in cassette but poor audio signal was the reason I couldnt enjoy it & got me disappointed.

    S.... P....

Have u ever heard the song Mockingbird hill by another band in the tempo like "From a jack to a king"( Foster & Alen) that was played in SLBC Asia ( Eng) service sometimes ago?

  97. R.... J....

I could listen to him singing all day
