Isaac Hayes - Ain't No Sunshine Lyrics

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she always gone too long anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I
Know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know

Hey I'll leave the young thing alone
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness everyday

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away

Gone basilisk, Barry Gordy is a capitalist and nothing wrong with him wanting to Build a empire, because he played his part by putting our people to work. This three day event is about bringing our people together.

The music of the late 60's and through out the 70's will always be known to be the apex of musical artistic evolution paralleling with the emergence of social evolution of its era. This is why music coming after that era of music will always reach back and barrow a piece of it. The music of that time haves such a solid foundation of various original musical expressions that to incorporate parts of it into any music after its time will most likely produce a positive result.

  26. m.... r....

  34. M.... B....

@14:40 - the build up of goosebumps. I can ONLY imagine what it was like live and in person

    M.... B....

absolutely. Sad thing is, that you wont be allowed to go to this concert, if you aint afroamerican. Sad, but it got much worse after 2000.

    M.... B....

Jan , it was a free concert to bring the people in the community of Watts , a predominantly poor black community , together and to uplift their spirits . The community was facing severe economic and political plight that was causing a demoralizing situation in the community . Why would they invite people from other communities that were doing far better than the Watts community just so they can be entertained for the day and then they go back to their communities just to forget about the people they left behind in a deteriorating community . You could have paid to see Isaac Hayes in concert any other time , if not being entertained was your grievance . Besides , I thought some people are making a big stink about not having social politics mixed into their entertainment and sports , and that concert was given with the intended overtones of social politics . Jesse Jackson hosting and speaking at the concert should have made it clear .

  35. W.... T....

The whole thing is a stone groove, but the middle section is my favorite.

  36. J.... b....

I think I've listened to this more than any other track, live or otherwise, ever. I know every note of it.
If there are better live performances out there, I've never heard them.

OBRIGADA ISAAC HAYES, OBRIGADA!!!.

  64. J.... C....

Thank you very, very much for posting this gem!!... Friendly greetings!!!

    J.... C....

Mr. Hayes at his best..!! The best that he ever had.. Friendly greetings from Venezuela and thank you very much for the memories as well..!!

  65. s.... ....

Sorry, rayjr62. Freddie King's version is not much beyond Bill's. Nice axe work but singing has little depth. And I saw Freddie live in '71 (not this song however). Hayes Live at Sahara Tahoe is the best ever. You feel pain in Hayes sound even more in full Ike's rap and Ain't No Sunshine on the Live at Sahara Tahoe.

    s.... ....

sigma1575 my exact sentiments bro. The rap before he starts is just a gas!

  66. S.... A....

This gave me chills. Isaac Hayes is simply wonderful. RIP

  67. T.... ....

Check out Isaac Hayes Performance of this song from "Isaac Hayes Live At The Sahara Tahoe".

  68. s.... ....

No doubt about it, best EVAH!!
No disrespect to MJ, Sting, Hanson (yes, really -- a very good one, too), Bill Withers (he did write it!), or any of the other great artists who've covered this over the years -- but this one's the gold standard, the ultimate.
Total travesty that it wasn't here at YT for so long.
Can't thank u enough for rectifying that, sushi!

  69. t.... ....

When a man comes to the realization that he isn"t really all that, no matter how tight you think your "mack game" is, and your whip appeal-you know what I mean is diminishing compared to what it used to be, that special lady who you dogged, played on and with has moved on-reality hits you. Reflect my brothers and you sisters, of all the women and men you've been with, did you really LOVE them or just LUST them. Real genuine, authentic love , that transparent, enduring, overcoming love comes once

  70. D.... R....

I mean-n-n-n- Day-yammmm!!!! I never heard this before........cannot thank you enough andre black

  71. L.... C....

When music was music. Thanks for posting.

  72. C.... c....

O "Ike" can sure break a song down to the bone. When the tanksgiving turkey is finish we use the leftover bones to make soup &gravy out of it. No wonder they call him CHEF! He sung the stew out of this song.

  73. J.... ....

When jazz meets funk, you get Mr. Hayes every time. RIP

  74. S.... H....

Powerful. Found this version several years ago. Listen to this for the first time, and you cannot imagine why it took you so long to find it. Blows you away!

  75. g.... ....

  76. R.... ....

One of my best classics....do I need to epeat myself...When music was MUSIC...Black Moses at Wattstax Festival...Q

  77. N.... B....

    Merci - Thank you!
first full length version on the internet
    you kick ass

  78. c.... ....

i had never heard this live version before and wow.... this just blew me away!!! no one can honestly say their life is complete without having listened to this!

  79. G.... L....

This is Issac's best song by far.

  80. b.... ....

14:39 strikes a nerve every time I hear this joint. just fabulous!!

  81. t.... ....

@katzpheno I totally agree with you ! This is the best version ! !

  82. k.... ....

I was just a kid when this version came out... (I had only heard Michael Jackson and Bill Withers recordings), however even though I was a child and knew nothing of the kind of pain/blues Isaac laid down I was moved.... I thought love was only happiness and light until I "felt" the darkness of this track - a most powerful performance indeed!

  83. s.... ....

Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" is 1 of those classics, like Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust," Beatles' "Yesterday," Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," that it seems every musician's just gotta cover it.
(Maybe it's some rite of passage / hazing; can't be in the union w/o it?)
& there r some phenomenal renditions out there.
Sting. Lenny Kravitz. A young Michael Jackson (!). Joe Cocker. Isaac Hanson (no joke).
But this 1's a world apart.
Thanks so much 4 posting it.
