Iron & Wine - God Made The Automobile Lyrics
God made the automobile
To pass all the pretty girls
That smoke by the side of the road
Their blues lovin' boys in tow
To drive until the of the day
Beside all the brave and the blind
And men without men in mind
To pass all the things he made
But then never bothered to name
And no one will tell the truth
And no one will hide it from you
Like birds around the grave
God made the automobile
To pass all the blissfully young
The snake with the forked toungue
That prays on the waiting for time
And makes in the sleepless waves
The fear of the black and the jew
And blood for the camera crew
And passes the things he made
And then never bothers to name
And no one can tell the truth
And no one can hide it from you
Like birds around the grave

Iron & Wine God Made The Automobile Comments
I don't know which came first (both released in 2009), but this song is nearly identical in sound to Great Lake Swimmers' Unison Falling Into Harmony!
This song is important to me. I don't know how I found it, but I found myself sitting in my chair at my desk listening to this some years ago. There are memories that I hold dear attached to it, because my thought process associates memories with music. I can remember sitting with my first in matching parkas with my first love in a swing set under a single park lamp in the snow. I can remember playing with toy soldiers with my dad when I hear his voice. I can remember holding someones hand and looking them in the eye and hearing the backing OoooOOo's while doing it. And so many more. This song brings back all the memories I hold close, that I don't bring back because I feel vulnerable feeling them, but comforts me while doing so. This is one of the most beautiful songs I know
Seems positive.. so be it.. perhaps even amen.
the OOoooOOO noise in the background is haunting yet amazing.
Who else paid attention to the song while being distracted by the things this charming man was doing?
Don't usually go for that metaphysics BS but by George I think you nailed it.

Most Beatiful Song. And I agree with (IMACOWGIRL27) & (raininginmycranium) Sam Beam would be Smiling.
Oh how... fantastic
A perfect pairing; Chase Archer portrays God's playful nature as he creates our world of illusion. At the end, his reassuring smile seals the secret we share.
I love this video and the song :) so cool.
